Chapter 284 Yangos
William spent two whole days getting ready to leave.
During that time, he fine-tuned his plan, aiming for perfection.
He knew things might not go as planned, but being prepared was still a good idea.
Besides planning and thinking through different scenarios, William also cranked out a ton of gray-level weapons and gear, arming almost all the warriors in Sasha's and Burning Fury's warbands. Even some regular folks got a gray machete or iron spear.
This not only pumped up the two factions but also made them realize William wasn’t just a badass three-star Evolving guy; he was also an Artisan so skilled they were in awe!
In the post-apocalyptic world, jobs like Artisan, Pharmacist, and Chemist were super valuable. Having someone like that on your team could instantly double its strength.
Basil even felt like the Burning Fury warband was back to its old strength before his son Rand’s sacrifice! That was what the confidence the good gears brought.
The downside was that William’s mental energy took a big hit. But at this crucial moment, he didn’t hesitate to use a bunch of Magic Crystals to recover.
During these two days, the now-equipped factions went out together to hunt mutated creatures. This helped them practice working together and brought back Magic Crystals for William to recharge his mental energy.
After two days, William not only didn’t lose out but even ended up with a few more Magic Crystals.
And that was not even counting his own stash of materials.
Besides gearing up his people, William also kept sending scouts to check out the Poppy roulette wheel. It was swarming with mutated creatures, so they couldn’t get too close to the center. But they still gathered a lot of intel, like estimating the number of mutated creatures, how fast their numbers were growing, the total they might face during the operation, and the number of corpse groups heading that way. They also figured out which areas had mutated creatures that had left, leaving passable roads or occupied buildings.
All this info got marked on a map by William, and he kept tweaking the plan based on the changing situation.
One thing that bugged William was that they couldn’t scout the center of the roulette wheel. That was the most crucial part, so he had to use his past life experience to guess what might happen.
When everything was ready, and it was time to go, William knew that after leading the team to the designated spot, he’d have to scout the core area himself.
On the morning of the third day, William and the two warbands set off, with over four hundred people in total. Among them, three hundred were Evolving persons, including eight two-star Evolving persons, making their strength pretty decent.
Even though the number and level of these Evolving persons were similar to William’s team at Cloud Peak Manor, their professions and coordination couldn’t compare to the core team William had personally built. But given the circumstances, he had no other choice.
During these two days, the roulette wheel hadn’t flashed once, meaning no one had spun it and it was likely occupied by mutated creatures.
The closer they got to the Poppy roulette wheel, the more often they ran into mutated creatures. They tried to avoid large groups of corpses and beasts, but they couldn’t dodge all the mutated creatures. After several skirmishes, the team reached the closest point to the roulette wheel. Any further, and they’d face large-scale fights with the corpse and beast groups, risking being overwhelmed.
William had to settle the team in a hotel’s cold storage before heading out alone.
He needed to check out the core area of the roulette wheel.
If things were normal, he could just find a tall building on a clear day and scope things out from the rooftop. But all the tall buildings around were crawling with flying mutated creatures. Even a two-star Evolving person wouldn’t stand a chance if they got spotted. So, William had to handle it himself.
Thinking about the layout, William picked a building that would give him a decent view of the roulette wheel from the top.
This building wasn’t a prime spot for mutated creatures since it didn’t have a direct line of sight to the roulette wheel. When William went in, he only ran into a few zombies, which he took out easily.
When he got to the exit leading to the rooftop, he heard wings flapping.
Using the Edge of the Moon, he carefully cut around the edges of the iron door instead of pushing it open. He was pretty sure that even a gentle push would make the rusty door screech.
Holding the slightly tilted door with both hands, William carefully set it down beside the stairs.
To the Edge of the Moon, this rusted metal from the old days was like cutting through butter.
A few mutated bats were hanging out on the edge of the rooftop, occasionally peeking down.
William didn’t rush in. He watched for a bit and realized this was their nest. Judging by the droppings, there were only a few bats.
He made his move. Pushing off the ground with his hands, he shot forward. His speed wasn’t super fast, but it minimized the noise. When he landed, he pushed off with his toes and suddenly sped up. By the time the second-level mutated bats noticed, the Edge of the Moon had already sliced through them.
After grabbing a few Magic Crystals and materials, William looked towards the Poppy roulette wheel.
His nerves tightened at the sight of Yangos.
.
Yangos was a monster, a dragon variant, a powerful creature named by future survivors.
When mutated creatures evolved to a high level, many of them, aside from their looks, had intelligence on par with humans. Some high-level mutated creatures could even speak human language and chat fluently with people.
Though, the chats were mostly about food, and they usually ended in a fight to the death.
Some highly intelligent beings, who had done a lot or killed human strongmen, got names instead of just being called by their species.
In his past life, this dragon-like monster from Accraville City was named Yangos after it killed a famous nine-star human strongman and single-handedly stormed a Land of Death, causing rivers of blood and even making the lord of the Land of Death bow to it.
Yangos, a name almost synonymous with a nightmare.
William didn’t expect to see this dragon in this life.
And this creature was already at level five. Its evolution speed was insane.
William felt this mission had just gotten a lot more complicated. The individual strength of this dragon could almost crush all other creatures in Accraville City. If it didn’t leave, what could he do?
Putting aside the pressure from Yangos, William looked in two other directions. One was a large group of mutated animals, with a massive horde of rats in the center. The other was a densely packed group of corpses, with some level-four beings being surrounded, likely their kings.
William quietly observed, looking for a chance to spin the roulette wheel and get out safely.
But all his previous plans seemed useless against such overwhelming strength.
William couldn’t help but feel a bit down. The appearance of Yangos, a being with strength far beyond all others, made the situation too much for a three-star Evolving person like him to handle.
Just then, the violent and ruthless Yangos suddenly flew to the roulette wheel. Its massive wings started striking the wheel, and a thunderous dragon roar echoed, shaking the ground!
