Chapter 298 The Demon Who Eats Magic Crystals
With some cool new gear in hand, William was itching to try it out. But both the Deadly Gunner and Thunderbolt spell needed mental energy, and wasting that now would be dumb. So, he decided to just test the Crystal Energy Magic Gun.
He went out and found Darryl, asking for five Level 1 Magic Crystals. He loaded them into the slot on the handguard and pulled the trigger, aiming at the distance.
However, nothing happened.
William was baffled. He didn't think the purple weapon was broken since its durability was still full. So, what was the deal? He had lightning energy, after all.
After a bit, it hit him: maybe five Level 1 Magic Crystals weren't enough juice for the gun. This was a purple-level piece of gear with serious power, so it probably needed more energy. Five Level 1 Magic Crystals might just be too weak.
So, William had to go out again and find Sasha to borrow five Level 2 Magic Crystals.
He had no choice; he’d blown all his Magic Crystals on the Poppy roulette wheel. He was now impoverished.
Sasha was super curious. She didn’t mind giving William a few Level 2 Magic Crystals since she had plenty. After all, he is a magnate; yet, what could possibly compel him to come out and borrow something? So she asked, and William, looking a bit down, said he was testing some equipment. That got Sasha’s mind racing.
She knew William was an Artisan. If he was testing equipment, it had to be something powerful. So, after William left, Sasha started thinking about whether she should get some Magic Crystals to be the first to buy this new gear.
William had no idea his actions had already caused a misunderstanding. He just wanted to see how powerful the gun was.
He loaded the five Level 2 Magic Crystals into the gun, thinking this should do the trick. He found a secluded spot and pulled the trigger.
William started sweating. Damn, it still didn’t work.
Were five Level 2 Magic Crystals not enough?
Was this thing eating Magic Crystals?
William held the beautiful Crystal Energy Magic Gun, but right now, it felt like a Magic Crystal-eating monster, scarier than Yangos.
Reluctantly, William took out a few Level 3 Magic Crystals he had saved for his promotion and loaded them into the purple-level gun. Gritting his teeth, he decided to find a target to test it on instead of just firing at a wall.
Holding the Crystal Energy Magic Gun, which no longer had its purple glow under control, William spent half an hour finding a small group of wandering zombies nearby.
This group had about a hundred zombies, with a few Level 2 ones leading. They had probably run into survivors before, so they were still hanging around instead of heading to the Accurately exchange roulette wheel.
William stepped out from his hiding spot. As a four-star Evolving person, he wasn’t scared of these low-level zombies, even if he was unarmed.
The hundred or so zombies got riled up seeing a piece of fresh moving meat coming their way. The few Level 2 zombies charged first. They weren’t yet sensitive to the level of an Evolving person.
William pulled the trigger of the Crystal Energy Magic Gun, powered by five Level 3 Magic Crystals. He decided that if five Level 3 Magic Crystals still couldn’t activate this purple-level weapon, he’d stash it in the farthest corner of the space until he hit six-star level!
Luckily, the gun fired.
The sound wasn’t too loud, probably because of the lightning activation, with some electric crackling. However, the scene before him rendered William stunned for a long time.
He had thought the gun just looked like a gun, but in action, it was more like a shotgun. The range wasn’t far, but the bullets spread out in a fan shape, covering an area of at least 40 square feet.
And these weren’t regular bullets; they were mini lightning bolts, forming a screen of electricity. The zombies, whether Level 1 or Level 2, got hit by the lightning and instantly turned to charcoal.
This gun could take out over a hundred zombies in one shot, including several Level 2 ones!
Sure, many survivors had skills or professions that could achieve similar results, like William’s Flame Blade. But after using the skill, the lightning bullets flew out to a range of about a hundred feet, turning everything in their path to charcoal.
Was this the power of a purple weapon?
William figured that even if all the zombies were Level 3, one shot could probably take them all out!
This treasure was just a step away from legendary level, truly extraordinary.
William even thought that against a Level 4 lifeform, this shot might not kill it but would leave it half-dead.
This gun was really something. William lovingly stroked the gun’s body, then suddenly froze.
The handguard, where the five Level 3 Magic Crystals had been, was now filled with empty shells.
William looked at the hundred or so Level 1 Magic Crystals and a few Level 2 Magic Crystals that hadn’t turned to charcoal, suddenly realizing he had made a big loss.
On the way back, William’s face naturally didn’t look good. He had finally gotten a powerful weapon, but one shot cost five Level 3 Magic Crystals. Who could afford such waste?
The current apocalypse hadn’t reached the point where Level 3 mutated lifeforms were charging in groups. If he could hit one or two Level 3 mutated lifeforms with one shot, it would be good, but it would still be a loss. Two shots would be a double loss. How could William be happy?
It seemed this gun could only be used at critical moments. The notion of utilizing it to amass Magic Crystals in substantial quantities could be disregarded.
Before reaching the temporary camp, William noticed something was off. Upon entering, he saw the Red-haired iron corpse standing in the camp, surrounded by many onlookers.
Many had seen it with the zombie horde. If it hadn’t spoken up, saying it was looking for William, they might have already started fighting.
Even under such circumstances, the survivors didn’t relax their guard around it.
William had been so focused on testing the gun that he hadn’t noticed the Red-haired iron corpse contacting him.
“Come in and talk.” William nodded, and the Red-haired iron corpse followed him into his room.
The others exchanged glances, understanding each other’s thoughts. William was indeed a formidable person; he even knew a monster that stayed with the zombie horde.
In the room, William took out a small bottle and handed it to the Red-haired iron corpse. Inside was a drop of the Blood of Evolution!
The Red-haired iron corpse looked at the blood, its face full of desire, stammering, “Why... only one drop?”
Squinting his eyes, William remained calm, suddenly tilting his head to one side. “How many drops do you think there should be? And... come out, don’t make me use force.”
