Chapter 44 Women Fighting

"I'm scared, and I feel disgusted just like you do."
"But you..."
"How come I didn't show it?" Natalie turned her head to look at Lucy.
"Yes, you never said anything. I thought you didn't care about these things." Perhaps Natalie's words made Lucy feel a hint of agreement, and she leaned toward Natalie.
Natalie sneered, "I indeed don't care."
"William tells me to do something, and I do it. I won't ask for reasons, let alone care whether I want to do it or not."

"But isn't that contradictory?" Lucy's face was full of incomprehension. "Everyone has their rights, everyone has the freedom to choose, we can say no."

Natalie chuckled, shaking her head. "Lucy, I thought you were just not adapting, but now it seems you simply can't see reality clearly."

With that, Natalie pointed to the distant group of corpses and the bodies scattered around, asking, "What do you think, what time is it now?"

"No need for you to answer, because you know in your heart too. This night has passed, the world has changed, so do you think your previous values are still appropriate?"

She continued, "No matter if I want it or not, this world has changed. If I don't change, I will become one of those monsters. If I don't change, maybe I would be among these crushed bodies by now!"

Lucy rubbed her eyes and sighed, "What you said is right, but that doesn't mean you should just do whatever that seemingly fierce man tells you to do."

"Why not?" Natalie's eyes looked ahead, calculating the timing of their actions. "Don't say it's just asking me to dig out magic crystals from the corpses, at most it's just getting a bit dirty. Even if he asks me to make love with her, I won't hesitate."

"How can you be so unprincipled like this?" Lucy, who was not yet married and usually had the image of a pure teacher, blushed slightly and scolded in a low voice. "Making love is something to be done after marriage, it depends on feelings."

"Principles? Feelings?" Natalie snorted, "That's ridiculous. Even when the world wasn't chaotic, this wasn't something only done after marriage. Hotels are full every day with people booking rooms. Talk about principles? Talk about feelings? How many lovers have separated because of some economic disputes? If they were so principled about feelings, there wouldn't be so many people crying in a luxury car, unwilling to sit on the back of a bicycle and smile!"

Natalie scoffed, "Since in a world without chaos, people can solely aim for a better material life, putting money above all, they can sleep with people they don't love, have children for them, or even sell their youth at the risk of being beaten by the legal wife to become mistresses! So why, when the world is in chaos, can't we be with someone who is actually kind and strong enough to protect me for the sake of survival?!"

"At least, I'm fighting for my life! I feel like I'm much nobler than those who only talk about money," Natalie said.

Natalie ended the conversation between them, then she flashed the dagger in her hand and said in a deep voice, "Let's go, it's time for us to work. I don't want to be criticized by William for not doing even this little task properly."

Seeing the somewhat frail figure ahead rushing out without hesitation, Lucy couldn't describe her feelings. She could only follow along, feeling that something that had been present in her heart for over twenty years was slowly breaking apart.

William's plan was to crush as many zombies as possible with the two heavy trucks driven by himself and Candice while Natalie and Lucy would pick up the magic crystals behind. He needed a large amount of magic crystals to turn the roulette in the supermarket in the teaching area.

This plan seemed simple, but in reality, it was very difficult and dangerous to execute. While William and Candice seemed safe inside the heavy trucks, as long as they didn't encounter mutated zombies, if the trucks stalled due to collisions or other accidents, they would be surrounded by zombies. Without immunity to the virus, they were essentially facing death.

Although Natalie and Lucy's task was just to dig out magic crystals from the corpses, could all the zombies be attracted by the trucks? No one could guarantee that there were no live zombies around. The two women were neither evolved nor professionally trained like Candice, so encountering zombies meant their lives were on the line.

This plan was far from perfect, nor was it an example from a textbook, but William had come from his previous life like this, so he didn't think much of it. Moreover, high risk meant high returns, and he believed the risk was worth it.

Candice circled the teaching area twice while William behind her drove the heavy truck madly, encountering several dangers along the way. The most dangerous one was when Candice's truck was surrounded and about to be forced to stop. William drove up and knocked down half of the zombies to continue moving forward.

Seeing Natalie and Lucy already picking up magic crystals behind him, William knew it was almost time. If the heavy trucks continued to roar like this, even the zombies in the dormitory area would be attracted. At that point, it wouldn't just be a matter of danger but a matter of life and death.

Seizing an opportunity, William took out his gun, opened a gap in the car window, and fired a shot outside.

Upon hearing the gunshot, Candice in front immediately knew it was time. She began to accelerate and continuously honked the horn of the heavy truck, the loud sound echoing through half of the campus, attracting the zombies even more.

Breathing slightly heavily, William needed to focus entirely on controlling the heavy truck without making mistakes. The modified heavy truck had been hit too many times and was starting to slow down; it wouldn't hold up for much longer.

With a loud bang, Candice's car crashed out of the schoolyard wall in front of the supermarket directly onto the street on the other side. The vehicle lost control, swaying significantly on the street before crashing into a storefront, stalling, and getting stuck inside.

The zombies swarmed out from the broken opening, still in large numbers, almost over a thousand.

Seizing the moment, William also rushed out through the gap, knocking down the front group of zombies, and stopped next to Candice's car.

William propped a prepared stick on the car horn button to keep it honking and kicked open the deformed car door, jumping out of the car. He quickly ran to the other heavy truck, unable to see clearly inside Candice's cabin due to the zombie flesh and blood on the windows. He simply smashed the glass with the handle of the knife, reached in, pushed the door open, and pulled out the female police officer, covered in blood, who was lying on the steering wheel.

A few seconds later, the two cars were submerged by the tide of zombies.

Hiding behind the bus stop billboard, using the wreckage of two cars as cover, William checked Candice's injuries. Finding that it was just a head injury, he felt relieved and splashed water on Candice's face. The physically fit female police officer woke up.

He asked, "Can you run?"

Candice replied, "No problem."

After that, they circled around the street, avoiding the zombies still rushing out, and re-entered the campus.

They found Natalie and Lucy over half an hour later.

But the scene in front of them left the two of them stunned. Natalie had already gotten into a scuffle with two girls, their clothes disheveled and hair in disarray. Even Lucy, who usually paid attention to her appearance, was reaching for a boy's face, completely changing her quiet demeanor!
