Chapter 265 Borrowing Your Team (Part 2)
A muscular man wearing a gray coat with a thick bandage wrapped around his abdomen walked in, his upper body bare underneath.
William glanced sideways and caught the scent of a two-star Evolving person.
"Captain Jenkins!" people around greeted the nearly fifty-year-old man, who looked more like he was in his forties.
The man stopped about 10 feet from William, spreading his hands slightly. "Bro, Doug was ignorant and offended you. I apologize on his behalf and am willing to make amends."
The surrounding crowd was in an uproar upon hearing Basil say this.
The Burning Fury warband was one of the top ten forces in Accraville City. Although they weren't invincible, few dared to provoke them. Basil was particularly well-known in Accraville City, even Chester White, the leader of the Mercy Vanguard warband and the strongest person in the city, treated him with respect.
But who would have thought that he would lower himself in front of a young man? Not only did he not blame the man for killing, but he also offered compensation. What was going on?
Even if William held Doug’s life in his hands, would he dare make a move against the Burning Fury Squad? Surely, he wouldn’t risk incurring their wrath.
William's heart skipped a beat, and he slightly loosened his grip, allowing Doug to breathe. Doug's face was still flushed, his eyes bloodshot, but he didn't dare to struggle violently, fearing to anger William, who was holding his life.
Basil's eyes lit up, and he tried to negotiate with William. "How about this? Let's go to my room and talk. I have a good bottle of wine. We can chat over a drink."
Then he turned to his subordinates and ordered, "Clean this place up and notify the kitchen to prepare some good dishes. I'm going to have a drink with this gentleman today!"
Although his subordinates were confused, they immediately ran to the kitchen upon his command.
Basil gestured and walked toward William, slapping Doug in the face and shouting, "Idiot, get lost!"
He then turned to William. "Sir, please let go. You are a three-star Evolving person, capable of ending us all with a thought. Please don't hold a grudge against my useless son. I apologize on his behalf, and also..."
As he said, he glanced at Nicholas and Dunca behind him. "The Evolution Elixir for these two is on me, as compensation for today's offense. If you're not satisfied, we can discuss further."
The people around were even more confused. This seemingly frail young man was actually a three-star Evolving person?!
Doug, who had just been released, immediately became obedient upon hearing Basil's words, standing behind Basil with his head lowered.
The ones most surprised were those who had been with William yesterday, especially Avery. Avery remembered bossing around a three-star Evolving person and felt incredibly lucky to be alive, despite the cold sweat soaking his back.
Darryl looked at the incredulous Dunca and Nicholas and said, "He's my boss."
Unlike the previously shabby, makeshift warehouse, Basil's living quarters were much better. A few people sat around a table, with Basil and William at the head. On William's side were Darryl, Dunca, and Nicholas, while on Basil's side were his son Doug and another person, introduced as Tristan Price, the captain of another elite team.
Doug apologized to William, who waved it off, indicating forgiveness. Relieved, Basil poured William a drink and then started talking.
Basil was quite talkative and had a good demeanor, suggesting he was also a significant figure in peaceful times. William didn't say much, and Dunca gradually took over the conversation with Basil. They talked for a while and found they had a lot in common, developing a mutual liking.
"Kiel Knights," William suddenly mentioned, causing the previously lively atmosphere to turn cold. A flash of resentment crossed Basil's face as he slammed his glass on the table. "It seems you heard about it just now. Yes, those people came here and took my invitation card. If they weren't afraid of me fighting back, they might have taken all my possessions! If my brother Randal were still here, they wouldn't dare be so arrogant. Those bastards, one day I'll kill them myself!"
Doug snorted coldly on the side, clenching his fists tightly. If he hadn't been humiliated by the Kiel Knights today, he wouldn't have been so angry and offended William, a three-star Evolving person.
Sighing, Basil continued, "A few days ago, my subordinates discovered a building from which some level one and two flying monsters frequently emerged. They found many strange, large plants in the hallway on the fifth floor. Each plant had a gray sac on its crown, pulsating like a heart."
William sat up a bit straighter.
Basil went on, "There were hundreds of these flying monsters. They hunted constantly, preying on both zombies and humans. They ate some of their prey and brought the rest back to the building to feed the Strange Trees. My subordinates risked their lives daily to observe and found that these strange plants would periodically produce flying monsters from their sacs. Most were level-one monsters, but the largest plant produced level-two monsters!"
William's eyes grew brighter, and he realized he had stumbled upon a lucrative opportunity.
"One plant can produce a level one monster in a day, and the largest one can produce a level two flying monster in three days," Basil reported, downing his drink. "Those plants are level-three. We found over twenty of them, plus other level-one and level-two monsters. That's a huge fortune. I was blinded by greed and ignored the mysterious deaths of over a dozen of my subordinates during reconnaissance. I led my men there, hoping to strike it rich. I thought those immobile level-three Strange Trees couldn't be that dangerous and that we could just chop them down. My eldest son was already a three-star Evolving person, and we had a group of subordinates. We were confident in dealing with the remaining level one and two flying monsters, so we almost went all out. But who would have thought..."
Basil didn't need to finish; William knew the battle process because he had encountered such monsters in his previous life.
After Basil finished, William put down his glass and said slowly, "Mr. Basil Jenkins, you don't need to give me any Evolution Elixir as an apology."
Everyone at the table looked at William, puzzled.
"Just lend me your team."
