Chapter 315 Sharing the Danger (Part 2)

A bunch of survivors managed to resist the urge to grab the gear and came over to give William a pat on the back.

Sure, some folks had thoughts about taking William out, but after sizing up the situation, they realized it was a bad idea. The gap in strength was just too big. Anyone trying to mess with William now would have to be either crazy or have a death wish.

But the little alliance of factions didn't even try to hide how much they were eager to get  the gear lying around. Some of them even started pointing at the stuff and chatting about what they could do with it.

These guys had been rolling with William for a while and knew he was a top-notch Artisan. They got that he didn't really care about gray or even white-grade items. So, they figured that even if William kept some gear for his Cloud Peak Manor crew, he'd definitely sell off the stuff he didn't need. For instance, those inferior gray-grade weapons, far below what William could create, would likely end up with the smaller alliance members who had recently been fighting alongside him.

William watched their faces closely, thinking this would save him a lot of hassle.

He had a solid plan for the gear: keep a bit for his crew and sell the rest, including the white weapons from the Honor Legion leaders.

Why not keep all the gear for Cloud Peak Manor? William had his reasons.

As an Artisan, he could craft gray equipment and even create the Edge of the Moon and Thousand-Leaf Phosphorescent Armor without using Devil's Gold. He wasn't concerned with the Honor Legion's items.

This trip to Accraville City had scored him a ton of materials, which were enough to make even better gear.

Plus, William hadn't forgotten the enemies he'd made to get all this loot.

These enemies included the Zero Commerce Guild and the Honor Legion.

There was also the Accraville City prison and some unknown forces still gunning for him and Cloud Peak Manor.

In other words, William was surrounded by danger.

Until he was strong enough to take these forces down easily, sharing the risk was a smart move.

The Honor Legion hated William because he took everything from them. They not only failed to get the items from the roulette but also lost their own weapons and equipment.

If William kept it all, all the hate would be aimed at him. But what if other forces got some too? Even if the Honor Legion didn't hate them, they wouldn't be too happy either. Even if the Honor Legion was cool enough not to hold a grudge and just wanted to kill William, what about the other forces that took their gear? Would they feel guilty? Would they worry about the Honor Legion trying to get their stuff back?

In this mindset, would they team up with the Honor Legion or sell the gear cheap to Cloud Peak Manor, which had shown it could stand up to the Honor Legion?

The answer was pretty clear.

Although the Honor Legion could offer additional perks, it would still result in taking a hit and indirectly weakening their own position, wouldn't it?

In the post-apocalyptic world, the big fight was still humans versus mutated creatures. William had no plans to show off the Magic Crystal weapons anytime soon. He wanted to give the local humans more firepower to fight off the mutants, making Accraville City even more chaotic, which would work out in his favor.

Nobody liked having a super-strong neighbor, and William was no different.

So, he put the gear up for sale. Prices stayed the same: gray-grade gear for one second-level Magic Crystal, white-grade for twenty second-level Magic Crystals or three third-level Magic Crystals.

The small alliance folks, who had worked with William before, jumped on it. The gray gear was almost gone in a flash.

Seeing this, other groups rushed in, not wanting to miss out.

Over two thousand pieces of gray gear sold out in just a few minutes.

In the end, the small alliance, even though they got first dibs, they ended up with less. They'd already spent most of their Magic Crystals in earlier deals with William, so after grabbing a few hundred more pieces, they were pretty much tapped out.

On the flip side, other groups that hadn't spent much recently went all out, burning through second-level Magic Crystals like crazy.

Especially the Mercy Vanguard warband and Star Beauty Company, two big players in Accraville City. Even though they took some hits this time, they still had deep pockets. They snagged more than half of the over two thousand pieces of gear, and the ten or so white weapons and gear were split between them.

When other groups offered twenty second-level Magic Crystals for a white weapon or gear, these two just threw down three third-level Magic Crystals. It's obvious which offer William would choose. With these third-level Magic Crystals, plus what William had already gotten and some he took from the Honor Legion, he figured he could now afford two bottles of three-star Evolution Elixir.

After the gear was sold, William had a four-hour sit-down with the leaders of the Mercy Vanguard warband, Star Beauty Company, and other groups, setting up all kinds of partnerships. This pretty much marked William's takeover of Accraville City.

After the meeting, the leaders headed back to their camps around Accraville City. From now on, their fates were tied to Cloud Peak Manor.

The small alliance broke up, with many factions wanting to join Cloud Peak Manor. William decided to hold a selection at Cloud Peak Manor in half a month to pick the best candidates. He also thought about setting up a branch in Accraville City, but that was just an idea for now; it needed more planning.

In the evening, the witch showed up, now looking all regal. It had ten third-level zombies as guards. William knew there were probably more third-level zombies lurking around.

This wasn't a sign the witch wanted to fight; it simply showed mutual distrust.

The witch said, "Blood, keep your word."

William nodded and tossed three drops of The Blood of Evolution to the witch. The witch's eyes lit up, and it immediately swallowed two drops!

Behind William, the Red-haired iron corpse also appeared, getting three drops of The Blood of Evolution from William.

William didn't feel any regret. He knew that sometimes he had to spread the danger around to keep things balanced.
