Chapter 76 The Uncontrollable Person

William's timing was impeccable, a skill honed from a decade of survival in the apocalypse.

As soon as Thomas started his attack, he began moving. While the others were entangled, he seized the bag, buying himself time. He even anticipated the attack that would come after he got the bag.

Gunshots rang out, and William, as if foreseeing it, dodged in advance. After rolling a few times on the ground, he ended up behind the fluorescent green monster that had already dealt with the water element.

Though chaotic, the monster blocked the bullets that were coming from Scott's side.

Although William had to retreat repeatedly from the monster's incoming punch, he ultimately evaded the only person in the square who could temporarily threaten him. Using the fluorescent green monster as cover, he darted into a nearby street.

Thomas's eyes flashed with a fierce light, feeling a surge of frustration. He had already been toyed with into fighting the strongest monster today, but now his treasure was also snatched away. His anger had reached its peak.

Seeing the burly man ready to fight him to the death, Thomas headbutted him into a daze. Using the distance gained, Thomas punched the man's chest, sending the big guy flying.

"Stop them!" Thomas ordered, impatiently.

The previous battle had been so fast that the rest of the special ops team had just arrived. At Thomas's command, they moved to block the burly man while Thomas chased after William.

On the square, the burly man fell to the ground, spitting out blood. He touched his chest, which had slightly caved in. The Hercules profession gave him immense strength but not great defense. Even a hurried punch from a Two-Star evolver was enough to injure him seriously.

"Peter, Owen?" the burly man struggled to get up and staggered towards his companions.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps. With a subconscious sideways glance, he saw the people who had been shooting earlier running towards him, pulling the trigger.

"Ulysses, get down!" Peter, already on his feet, saw Ulysses Taylor in danger and shouted, rushing over without a second thought.

Though half of Peter's face was caved in and one eye was bleeding, as a One-Star evolver, he was seriously injured but not dead. Running at full speed, he quickly reached Ulysses before Scott's group could attack.

Gunfire erupted.

Their targets were not Ulysses but the approaching team members.

"Scott, are you crazy?!" Caught off guard, one member's head exploded, and the others quickly dodged. One of them angrily shouted at Scott.

"You're the crazy ones. I'm perfectly sane!" Scott replied, mockingly.

Scott's face was full of madness as he and his men fired wildly, not only at the team members but also at the burly men.

"Ulysses!" Owen Long, who had just caught her breath, saw Ulysses get shot and rolled over. A light blade flew out, slicing one of Scott's men in half.

The power of the light blade was terrifying. Seeing their comrade suddenly cut in two, Scott's men trembled and instinctively began to retreat. As they did, the team members, who hated them, surrounded them like tigers and engaged in a fierce battle.

Ulysses, clutching his arm, stood up and cursed, then charged with Peter Carter.

Though injured, they were professionals, much stronger than any ordinary One-Star evolvers. Teaming up with the team members, they killed Scott's group in just over ten seconds, though Peter suffered a penetrating abdominal wound.

Scott died with deep regret, wondering why he had been so foolish to provoke them.

Compared to the three-person group, the team paid a heavier price. In the chaos, only one member survived, and at Ulysses's signal, Owen decapitated him with a light blade.

The once chaotic square was now left with just the three of them.

The combination of evolvers and professionals was indeed powerful.

Ulysses and Peter, enduring their injuries, rescued Owen. The three looked at each other's sorry state and shook their heads with a bitter smile.

"Ulysses, what should we do?" Peter asked, clutching his abdomen, was lucky that the bullet had passed through without hitting any vital organs. After some simple bandaging, the bleeding had mostly stopped.

Owen's injuries were more severe, and she had to lean on Peter for support.

Ulysses looked in the direction where William and Thomas had disappeared and angrily said, "Are you willing to just go back like this?"

His two companions shook their heads. They had thought themselves strong and had chosen the right target at the right time, only to end up severely injured. If they left now, all their efforts would be in vain.

Moreover, they had stirred up a lot of trouble! If they didn't continue to get stronger, they would surely die.

"If others can seize the treasure, why can't we? Let's go, follow them, and see if we can seize the treasure too!" Ulysses said.

As if to greet them, a gunshot rang out.

Thomas rushed into the street without thinking.

After chasing for a while, Thomas suddenly felt a sense of crisis and ducked into a nearby shop with a broken door.

Then, the gunshot rang out.

Thomas sneered coldly, wanting to taunt the fleeing person, but he quickly realized something was wrong. Turning back, he vaguely saw that the Monster Baby on the square, who had lost an arm, was dead.

Though the distance from the square was considerable, his eyesight was still a good enough condition to see!

The shot wasn't aimed at him!

The real target was supposed to be the still-living Monster Baby, which was now dead.

For the first time since becoming a two-star evolver, Thomas felt threatened.

It was a threat, not just danger.

He had used a mysterious card obtained from Victor to advance from a One-Star to a Two-Star evolver directly. Though it left some hidden dangers, he was confident he could overcome them.

Thomas knew the power of a two-star evolver. He wasn't invincible, and many, like the three-person group earlier, could put him in danger.

But no one had ever made him feel threatened, to the point of feeling a sense of losing control over himself!

Now he did, from the young man fleeing with the bag. He couldn't fathom his actions.

Thomas didn't know how he had known the real treasure was here or how he had timed everything so perfectly, from kicking away the Monster Baby to seizing the golden bag. It all seemed planned.

Thomas also needed to understand how this guy had such exceptional marksmanship. At this distance, he couldn't guarantee a one-shot kill on the monster with a handgun!

Thomas was even more puzzled as to why the young man, having already obtained the golden bag, still killed the Monster Baby.

With so many unanswered questions, would more traps be waiting for him?

For a moment, Thomas hesitated.

William, of course, had no idea his actions had already made a two-star evolver feel threatened. He was running towards his predetermined destination.

He knew he couldn't shake off the pursuers. The gap between one-star and two-star was significant.

But William was still in options. He had shot the Monster Baby for two reasons: first, to ensure that the fluorescent green monster it summoned would disappear upon its death, and second...

He continued running, whistling a strange tune. As he ran, he blew harder.

His escape route was leading him to the Chain Prisoner!
