Chapter 226 Energy Absorbing Satan's Might
William stomped on the corpse of a second-level zombie he had just taken down.
A chill wave of energy flowed up from under his feet, easing the gnarly wounds on his body.
His Energy Absorbing Satan skill was doing its work.
The Golden Cloth had merged with his Bloodstride Boots, turning them into gold-level gear and giving them the wicked power of the Golden Cloth—sucking up life energy.
As long as William stood on anything alive or once alive, he could soak up energy to recharge—replenishing his stamina when exhausted, healing wounds when injured.
Every time William thought about this skill, he felt it was the best damn ability out of all the gear he had.
Essence Stone, Honorable Artisan profession, Staff of Nature—none of that could touch it.
William had no clue if anyone in his past life had ever combined the Golden Cloth with the Artisan profession to luck out and create gear with this skill.
But he figured the odds were slim, though. It took a specific combination of rare items and abilities. William doubted anyone else could have pulled it off.
Today, the main reason he had the guts to take on these second and third-level freaks was the Bloodstride Boots, and Energy Absorbing Satan was killing it.
Even though the life energy absorption wasn't as crazy fast as with the Golden Cloth, the energy William had soaked up in this short time had already patched up a bunch of his wounds. He guessed if there was enough life energy under his feet, he'd be good as new in just an hour.
Healing from the hits of several second-level zombies in an hour—anyone who knew about it would be floored.
Outside the granary, his crew had already started their mission according to plan. William's job was to wrap things up here before his team hit the granary.
William bit his lip, trying not to make a sound, and charged at the Black Mud Corpse again.
But a second-level zombie got in his way, and they went at it hard.
William fought like a maniac, going blow for blow. As long as he had a shot to take out a mutated zombie, he didn't care if he got hurt in the process, stepping over their bodies to reach his target.
This tactic cranked up his efficiency. In just a few seconds, he was standing in front of the Black Mud Corpse, which angrily spewed another black mud rain!
But this time, William didn't use the same old move. Instead, he dodged to the side and instantly unleashed The Light of Full Strength.
When the Black Mud Corpse attacked again, William swung his Knife Light from a different angle.
The Black Mud Corpse relied on the black mud covering its body. Each time it used the black mud, its body would shrink, and each time it got hit, the black mud would turn into energy to fix its body, making it shrink even more.
Half a minute later, William had tortured it to death.
Quickly yanking out the Magic Crystals from the dead mutated zombies, William stood on the Black Mud Corpse for a bit to patch up his wounds. He then spotted Candice, Natalie, Clarissa, and the rest leading about three hundred laborers into the granary, most of them pushing carts they had scrounged up recently.
"Move it, people! Get that food loaded!" Brian hollered, directing the regular folks to stack grain bags onto the carts.
This was the sketchiest part because the zombies outside had the granary totally surrounded. The Evolving folks were busting their butts holding off the zombies at the entrance.
They had picked this plan to keep things quiet. Sure, using heavy trucks would speed things up, but the loud engines would draw every zombie in the area, making things way worse.
Plus, heavy trucks could break down when plowing through zombies. William didn't want to risk it because if a truck crapped out in the middle of a zombie horde, not only would the food be stuck, but the people on it would be toast.
William fought for a bit, and not only did he avoid getting hurt, but his old wounds were healing up nicely thanks to the corpses on the ground. He suddenly noticed Gemma was missing.
William frowned and asked, "Where's Gemma?"
Meanwhile, Gemma was running as fast as her battered body would allow.
She had taken out the terrifying but cocky twin Ronald, but when she tried to handle Ralph, a hooded figure showed up.
When she heard Ralph call this guy "holiness," she decided to cut her losses and run.
She was already messed up from earlier explosions, and now every step felt like she was walking on fire. Blood dripped from the corners of her mouth with every few steps.
But she didn't show it, her movements were robotic yet nimble.
She didn't head towards the granary. Until she was sure she had lost Brody, she wouldn't risk leading him to William.
Brody, the hooded figure, had half his face hidden in shadow. He glanced at Ronald's corpse before chasing after Gemma, ignoring Ralph, who was crying on the ground.
Brody said, "Stop, your buddies aren't in this direction."
He suddenly halted, now only a few dozen feet away from Gemma.
His voice wasn't loud, but it hit Gemma's ears crystal clear.
Gemma kept running without a second thought.
"The direction you're running from is probably where your friends are. Let me guess, what's over there?" Brody said calmly. "Spring Harvest Granary, right?"
Gemma stopped, turned around, showing her scary face.
Brody made a slight sound of surprise, clearly not expecting the woman with such a killer body from behind to have such an ugly face.
"Looks like I guessed right. But you're something else, taking out my guy," Brody said, taking slow, measured steps forward, one step per second, without missing a beat.
He said calmly, "I'll give you a shot. Be my warrior, and I'll spare your friends. I'm Brody Lopez, ranked fifth among the Nine Holy Seats of Zero Commerce Guild. Swear loyalty to me, and I'll take you to a whole new world, even fix your face."
Silence followed his words. After a moment, Brody asked softly, "What do you think?"
"Idiot," Gemma replied.
