Chapter 322 Life and Death Moment
When mutated creatures were still at a low evolutionary level, they mostly relied on their physical strength to fight.
Sure, some higher-level creatures still did that, but it was because their bodies were their best weapons.
By the time they hit level five, these creatures had moved from low to intermediate evolution, and they started mixing their physical attacks with skills.
Take these two monsters, for example. They were biting and scratching, but also throwing in some skills here and there. It reminded William of the battles he used to see in his past life.
Sometimes, William wondered if it was because he was reborn and now at the cutting edge of evolution, or if his rebirth had changed things. It seemed like humans, monsters, and even mutated plants and animals were all way stronger now.
There was no way to answer that. William couldn't just go back to his old life to check if the Zero Commerce Guild and Honor Legion were this powerful back then, or if The Sanctum Institute could also train level-five life forms.
But William felt that while some things might have changed compared to his past life, it wasn't by a huge margin. Back then, he was too scared to even leave his house, trying to adapt to this world in fear and confusion.
He couldn't even see the world from the perspective of the high-end players.
Pill had stopped barking because it was either tearing off chunks of flesh from its opponent or chewing on them.
Thunder Beast's flesh was tough and had a strong, fishy smell. Compared to other mutated creatures, it was pretty gross, especially with the sour gas seeping from the flesh fibers, like rotten corpse from a grave.
But Pill loved it, probably more for the psychological boost.
Eating the flesh of an equally powerful opponent gave a sense of conquest.
Jungle Thorn kept stabbing Thunder Beast, and lightning occasionally struck Pill, leaving wounds. Blood from both sides pooled on the ground, either seeping in, evaporating from the lightning, or getting splashed around by their hooves and paws.
Whether they relied on their bodies or skills, battles between mutated creatures were always bloodier and more visually intense than those between survivors.
William watched from the side. At first, he thought the fight was crazy; but as he kept watching, he got hooked by the raw, life-and-death struggle. Maybe it was because survivors were usually in a weaker position in the apocalypse and lacked this kind of deadly courage.
William wanted to jump in, but even though Pill was seriously hurt, it didn't look fatal, so he held back.
Up in the air, Sam was still filming. William had to admit, the guy was impressive. He'd turned a small plane into a mix of a helicopter, drone, and airship, pulling off moves that defied logic. He must be a big deal at The Sanctum Institute.
Some weird vibes were coming from a distance. William glanced that way, knowing that his recent deals and collaborations with various forces in Accraville City were paying off. His crew was probably locked in fierce battles with their own kind.
Even though William felt pretty confident, he knew this was a tough mission that needed everyone to pitch in. Only then could they handle the backlash from the Zero Commerce Guild and Honor Legion with some real confidence.
Meanwhile, the fight between Pill and Thunder Beast was wrapping up.
What really caught William off guard was that both of them had been holding back their trump cards.
Thunder Beast was the first to play its ace.
It had this rare ability to control lightning, which packed a serious punch. Each hit also had a slight paralyzing effect, messing with its enemies' movement speed.
But when it came to defense, Thunder Beast was a bit lacking compared to Pill.
Pill's golden fur was like wearing a thick layer of metal armor. Every time it got hit by lightning, the electrical damage spread out evenly across its body. Sure, it looked nasty with wounds, but it wasn't that bad.
Plus, Pill was more compact compared to Thunder Beast's huge frame, making it quicker and able to dodge attacks better and strike from different angles.
With its top-notch jumping and maneuvering skills, Pill had the upper hand in the attack.
At this rate, Pill was going to take down Thunder Beast.
So, Thunder Beast pulled out its trump card.
It found an opening, let Pill tear off a big chunk of flesh from its leg, and then smacked Pill away with a powerful slap. It howled at the sky, causing the clouds above to scatter and turn into light spots. These spots quickly merged, forming a massive light ball in no time.
Inside, lightning crackled, looking like countless veins in a meatball.
A Blitzball!
Thunder Beast grabbed this Blitzball with one hand and charged forward at high speed, using inertia to hurl it at Pill.
William instinctively took a step forward.
Pill, who had just been slapped away, grimaced. Thunder Beast's strength was no joke. But seeing the Blitzball, Pill got super serious.
Pill jumped to the side, trying to dodge the Blitzball's path. At the same time, Jungle Thorn sped up, trying to slow down Thunder Beast's charge. But Thunder Beast seemed to have lost it, letting the Metallic thorn pierce its body without changing its course.
The Blitzball flew over, and Pill realized it would change direction with the target's movements, making it impossible to dodge.
So Pill got mad. It barked furiously, and Jungle Thorn vanished, replaced by a metal wall rising from the ground behind it!
This wall was covered with metal balls the size of adult fists. With Pill's bark, these metal balls launched from the wall, aiming at the Blitzball and Thunder Beast behind it.
Rapid fire missile!
A brand new skill Pill got when it hit level five!
A massive explosion, accompanied by blinding light, erupted from the collision point of the Metal missile and the Blitzball. The shockwave was so intense it blew William back several feet.
After the shockwave passed, William looked over and saw that the once majestic Pill had turned into a hairless dog, its skin charred black, with the smell of roasted flesh in the air.
But Pill was still standing.
Thunder Beast's massive body had fallen, with many charred metal balls embedded in it, one of which was lodged in its face!
In the battle between two level-five evolved life forms, Pill came out on top!
