Chapter 87 Golden Cloth

This was the bag that the Monster Baby was carrying.

To be precise, it was a square piece of golden cloth used as a wrapping.

On the day of the treasure hunt, William tore open the golden bag to create chaos among the various factions and to keep Thomas too busy to bother him. He let them scramble for the scattered treasures while he went to cut off a piece of Devil's Gold.

Unexpectedly, when he tore the bag, it didn't rip apart. He only managed to open the seal.  Without time to think, William just stuffed the strange cloth into his pocket.

Now, as he was counting his spoils, he remembered it.

The golden cloth was incredibly soft and delicate, feeling as smooth as the finest silk. But William was certain it wasn't silk or any textile he was familiar with.

When William tried again, he still couldn't tear the strange cloth.

Even though William was injured and couldn't engage in intense combat, he was still many times stronger than an average person. He could bend a piece of iron, let alone tear a piece of cloth.

So why couldn't he tear this cloth?

William thought for a moment and brought over the Edge of the Moon. He carefully made a small cut at the corner of the golden cloth, and the result shocked him.

Known for its sharpness and capable of leaving marks on Devil's Gold, the Edge of the Moon couldn't cut through the golden wrapping!

Touching his ear, William suddenly slashed down hard, then picked up the cloth to examine it closely. This time, he found something different.

Where the golden cloth had been cut, a very faint white mark appeared, so faint it could be easily overlooked. It was slowly disappearing!

Was it disappearing!?

William felt a chill run down his spine. How could a piece of cloth do such a thing?!

It was as if it were alive!

To confirm this, William made another cut. Once again, a faint mark appeared on the golden cloth and then it began to fade again. The 8-inch-long mark took only five or six seconds to vanish completely.

The zombie howls and occasional screams carried by the wind outside made the already quiet room even more eerie.

Was this a supernatural event? William had never heard of such strange occurrences in the apocalypse.

Suddenly, as he stared at the golden cloth spread on the floor, William noticed that it had faded in color.

The change was very subtle. If William hadn't spent ten years in the apocalypse, always staying alert to his surroundings, he might not have noticed it.

Thinking it over, William made a third cut on the golden cloth.

Everything was the same as the first two cuts. There was a faint mark, then followed by an eerie disappearance. William confirmed that the golden cloth was indeed fading in color.

What was going on?

Without other options, William decided to set aside the golden cloth for now. He grabbed it and placed it on the egg of the ape turtle beside him.

But as soon as he did, William froze. He clearly felt a bit of his energy being drained.

He looked at the golden cloth, his face full of surprise.

Swallowing hard, William forced himself to stay calm. He waited quietly, his eyes fixed on the golden cloth.

The color changed!

The golden cloth was slowly darkening!

When the golden cloth stopped changing, William carefully touched the mysterious and eerie fabric. The suction force was gone, and 'it' returned to its previous state.

Lifting the golden cloth, William saw the egg of the ape turtle, and a hypothesis formed in his mind.

At this moment, the egg, which originally had a life energy fluctuation, had turned somewhat gray on the outside. Although there was still a sense of life inside, it had become extremely weak, as if its life force had been drained.

William looked at the golden cloth, then at the egg of the ape-turtle. His eyes lit up as he rushed out.

Half an hour later, William squatted beside a zombie corpse, looking excited.

He had roughly figured out the purpose of the cloth.

The golden cloth could absorb life force to heal itself from damage, stopping once it had absorbed enough energy.

In other words, as long as it had energy, the cloth wouldn't suffer any damage. This was why the Edge of the Moon couldn't cut it.

Even the well-traveled William marveled at how amazing this thing was.

In his previous life, news of the Monster Baby appeared every two years, each time leading to a great battle. The treasures obtained turned into stories for survivors to discuss and envy.

But there was never any mention of the golden bag. William was very sure of this. It was as if this thing had never been discovered.

Could it be that no one had ever noticed this secret?

William didn't believe it.

Someone in his previous life must have known this secret. It's just that they didn't say anything.

When he was reborn, William was determined to achieve great things in the apocalypse. However, as he experienced various events,  William realized that he didn't know as much about the apocalypse as he thought he did.

This kept William on high alert. Although he had advantages others didn't, there were still plenty of things that he didn't understand. He needed to stay ambitious and never underestimate this familiar yet strange world.

Putting away the golden cloth, William walked back, thinking about how to use its special properties.

Undoubtedly, it was a good thing. Thinking back to when the Monster Baby was shot while carrying this bag, the wound healed quickly. William now knew it wasn't because of the Monster Baby's strength but because of the golden cloth.

Clearly, the Monster Baby could utilize the cloth's magical properties.

But William couldn't use it now. The cloth would absorb any life force it touched if it wasn't fully charged or if it was damaged, which frustrated William.

He tried reinforcing and enchanting it, but neither worked. This thing was beyond the capabilities of a small craftsman like him.

The only hope was to resort to forging but that required blueprints.

Helpless, William decided to keep the cloth for now and see if he could find a way to use it in the future.

Back in the room, William picked up the Treasure of the Sheep, one of the few items from this haul that could directly enhance his strength.

To eat it, William had specifically found a jar of sugar on his way back because he had heard that the Treasure of the Sheep tasted awful. Without some sugar, no one could stand its taste.

The Treasure of the Sheep looked quite large. Since it was fibrous, it was compressed to a size smaller than an egg. William smeared some sugar on it and stuffed it into his mouth.

First, a strange, fishy taste flooded his taste buds, followed by a burning, spicy, and foul sensation that made his whole body feel like it was on fire.

After a while, the taste faded as the Treasure of the Sheep was swallowed. But as it entered his digestive system, William suddenly felt a surge of explosive power rising within him!
