Chapter 41 Metal Shield
This bottle of pale pink liquid was familiar to William; it was the immunity potion, or rather, the incomplete immunity potion.
After taking this potion, the virus from ordinary zombies would no longer infect humans. However, it couldn't immunize against the evolved zombie virus. Also, if too many viruses entered the body in a short period, the immunity effect would be lost.
In the roulette above level two, there was a completely pink liquid, which was the complete immunity potion.
This thing was very valuable in the early days of the apocalypse and remained essential for many years to come.
What truly caught William's attention were the two pieces of equipment on the roulette: the metal shield and the emerald necklace.
Especially the latter, on the lifelike roulette pattern, the emerald necklace itself shimmered with a faint white light.
Common white-grade equipment?
Wasn't that on par with a machete?
Having a white-grade weapon was thanks to William's profession as a renowned craftsman. Within about ten hours after the apocalypse began, he could possess a weapon of this caliber. While it might not be unique, it was certainly rare.
Obtaining such a weapon required a considerable amount of effort from William.
Now, with another piece of white-grade equipment in front of him, William was very tempted.
Compared to the emerald necklace, the shield seemed a bit inferior; it appeared to be, at most, a gray-grade item.
He emptied all the magic crystals on him, along with a few scattered on the roulette. After counting, William realized he only had enough for two spins of the roulette. However, there were at least four items on the roulette that he desired, indicating that the magic crystals were insufficient. It seemed he would have to wait for another opportunity.
The roulette started spinning with energy, and the large pointer smoothly passed through ten sectors. After using a basic exclusion spell to eliminate one option, the pointer slowly stopped at a bundle of ropes.
William didn't even blink and continued with the second spin.
That's how the roulette worked; luck was everything. With good luck, you could get the best item in one go. With bad luck, you might spin dozens of times without getting what you wanted.
The roulette started again, and after a moment, the metal shield dropped out of the item box.
Naturally, the emerald necklace was the best reward on the roulette, followed by a One-Star Evolution Potion and the incomplete immunity potion. This shield ranked fourth.
Being able to obtain this after two spins left William quite satisfied.
The shield was gray-black, an arm shield about the size of a regular plate. Upon closer inspection, one could see a gray sheen on the shield's surface, confirming it as standard gray-grade equipment. With William's experience, the defense was decent; at least this shield should be able to withstand attacks from the large tongues of Blood Tongue Lizards.
After strapping the arm shield to his left arm, William went to the window and looked out. By the faint light on the horizon, he noticed that the commotion on the campus had gradually subsided. Small groups of zombies were feasting on corpses in several places while others roamed aimlessly in search of food.
Returning to the small window he had entered through, William let the rope down for the three women and gestured for them to come up. As for the Pill, they could stay downstairs on guard duty.
The three women successively climbed up the rope. Candice, the policewoman, had no trouble at this height; it was a piece of cake for her. What surprised William was Natalie, a disheveled yet alluring woman who displayed unexpected strength. Although not as neat as Candice, she smoothly ascended the rope. The only one struggling a bit was Lucy, who seemed to be in good shape but lacked arm strength. William had to pull her up halfway.
"Go find travel backpacks, then fill them up, mainly with food and water. You can leave out some less space-consuming daily items, but nothing else," William instructed.
After a night had passed, the survivors were already starting to worry about food and water. In the coming days, supermarkets, grocery stores, fruit shops, and other places would be the survivors' targets. This would inevitably attract most of the zombies, leading to gatherings at these locations.
This situation would further exacerbate the shortage of food and water, prompting William to stockpile survival supplies as much as possible. While it was possible to obtain these items from the roulette, the quantities were too limited, usually amounting to just a loaf of bread or a bottle of water.
Candice was deeply impressed by William's exceptional adaptability to the apocalypse. She and the usually obedient Natalie immediately set off to find backpacks in the daily necessities area and began searching. Lucy also joined in after a moment's hesitation.
On the ground floor, they finally came across the roulette.
The three women were stunned; this was something they had never expected. They touched the roulette, each wearing a complex expression.
Candice looked at the items on the roulette, then at the metal shield on William's left arm, and recalled the rope from earlier. Even the most clueless person could tell that all these items came from the roulette.
"Is the power you can provide in these potions?" Candice pointed at the pale green and pale pink potions on the roulette, voicing her speculation. The other two women had already guessed as much, but they needed William's confirmation.
"Specifically, it's the pale green one. The pink bottle is the immunity potion, which can prevent virus infection and zombie transformation," William explained.
Women's eyes lit up, showing a much greater interest in the immunity potion than in the One-Star Evolution Potion.
William shook his head inwardly.
"Kill zombies, spin the roulette, grow stronger," Candice murmured as she looked up at the roulette. "Why does it feel like..."
"Like being manipulated," William finished zipping up the fully packed backpack.
"Yes, you..." Candice, who usually had a determined look, now appeared somewhat bewildered, even showing hidden fear. Faced with the unknown, she did not react differently from everyone.
William cast a stern glance at the roulette, saying. "I will expose the person controlling this from behind."
Carrying a large bag each, the four of them climbed out of the supermarket and, led by William, stealthily left the campus. By this time, daylight had fully arrived, leaving nothing hidden in darkness. The three women were deeply shocked by the scene before them.
Everything seemed tinged with a shade of blood red, with limbs and body parts scattered around, cars parked haphazardly, shattered glass littering the streets, and the aftermath of fires.
"You need to adapt; this is how the world will be from now on, or even worse," William stated.
The atmosphere fell into silence as William knew these three women, who had just been vomiting, were still in the process of adapting. He had gone through the same phase in the past.
As they returned to Oasis Luxury, passing through the seven-story residential area, Natalie wanted to say something but remained silent. The house she had bought here was the result of years of hard work, and she held sentimental value for it.
However, she also understood that the house now held no significance.
Upon reaching Sienna's villa, William casually glanced at it but quickly turned pale and hid to the side.
Something had entered the villa!
