Chapter 201 Quell Card
A blinding light suddenly flashed on the battlefield.
The Fang Beasts instinctively shielded their eyes while William's team turned away.
William squinted but quickly spun around and dashed back.
This sudden change made the Fang Beasts hesitate.
The ones in front slowed down and stopped about ten feet from Cecil. Known for their discipline, they started circling, looking for something.
Their level-three leader was gone!
It had vanished.
Every Fang Beast was confused without their leader.
William raised his left hand, holding a silver card. The plain card now had a lifelike picture of a Fang Beast on it.
"Captain Wright, it's useful, right?" Jack bragged, trying to take credit.
He wasn't lying; the card was indeed stolen from a powerful survivor.
Just two days after leaving the Land of Death, the team was ambushed at night.
The assassin targeted Michelle, who seemed carefree but was tough to deal with.
Before the apocalypse, she was a top-notch police officer. After a month of surviving, she had honed her skills. As an Evolving person, she was second only to William in strength.
The assassination failed, and the team beat the attacker.
The assassin was unlucky. He was a one-star Evolving person and a professional Shadow Assassin, a dangerous class. If he hadn't underestimated them and targeted the vigilant Michelle, the team might have lost someone. But once his first strike failed, he had no second chance.
Everyone had an Air Shield, and the assassin couldn't use his skills three times quickly.
The sudden attack made the team feel the constant threat of death, so they showed no mercy.
While handling the body, Jack found the silver card hidden on the assassin.
It was a Quell Card.
When activated, it could seal a mutated lifeform of an equivalent level. Once sealed, the lifeform would be trapped in the Quell Card, becoming a Battle Pet-like existence.
Unlike Battle Pets, which had independent lives and could evolve, the lifeforms in Quell Cards lost their memories and only obeyed their master. Their evolution level wouldn't increase unless a special Upgrade Card was used, even if they absorbed energy.
The creatures in Quell Cards were born for battle, fearless, and relentless until they died.
Once the sealed lifeform died, the Quell Card shattered and became useless. As long as the creature wasn't dead, it could return to the Quell Card to recover, even if barely alive.
These cards were highly sought after in the apocalypse.
The Quell Card Jack found was a level-three card, capable of sealing level-three mutated lifeforms. The one-star Evolving person probably hadn't found the right opportunity or target to use it, so the team got lucky.
It was the most valuable thing the team had found near Cloud Peak Manor.
It was also why they dared to face the Fang Beasts head-on.
Another reason was that the team believed that if they sealed one level-three Fang Beast, their captain could handle the remaining level-three Fang Beast and the group of level-two Fang Beasts.
William really wanted to say, "You guys have too much faith in me."
There were over two hundred level-two beasts, and their sheer numbers could wear them down.
Fortunately, William was still William, always finding the best moment to strike.
Seeing the Fang Beasts in chaos, William didn't hesitate. He activated Seal: Flame Blade, and a flurry of fire and knife light slashed towards the Fang Beasts, searching for their leader.
As William grew stronger and his skill proficiency increased, the power of this move also grew. With one strike, dozens of beasts were killed.
The sharpness and quality of the Edge of the Moon ensured that no level-two mutated lifeform could withstand it. Even if they weren't killed, the high-temperature flames would instantly turn them to charcoal.
William immediately set down the avant-garde mechanic and inserted a level-two Magic Crystal into it.
“Ninety-nine units of energy, level-two turret!” a mechanic's voice said.
With a loud bang, the avant-garde mechanic fired right after William.
Firing Mode 1, Ray Turret!
When they first got the mechanic from the Screeching Cage, a ray from a level-one Magic Crystal could already punch a hole through a level-three mutated lifeform. Now, with Devil's Gold added, a ray with 1 unit of energy had a force of 0.3 pounds, making it even stronger.
However, due to cooldown time, nearly a hundred units of energy could only fire twice before a thirty-hour cooldown. So this time, the mechanic could only fire twice. The first shot hit just left of William's Flame Blade.
The ray's power was 15PA multiplied by 50 units of energy.
Although the exact calculation might not be accurate—after all, a 98-unit energy ray had only managed to destroy half the body of a heavily armored Skull—the power was undeniable. With a range of 180 feet, the shot directly pierced through the ranks of the Fang Beasts.
The power was even greater than William's Seal: Flame Blade.
Camilla and Tom were stunned. They knew William was powerful. Over the past few days, they had seen the terrifying attack power of the gem-encrusted staff. With that staff, they had seen William collect a massive amount of Magic Crystals they could only dream of.
They thought that was William's limit.
But then William pulled out another piece of equipment they had never seen before and unleashed such a powerful attack.
One shot took out dozens of level-two mutated lifeforms!
Camilla and Tom felt like they were going crazy. Back in the Courage Squad, they risked their lives for a single level-one Magic Crystal. They would run in fear at the sight of a level-two zombie and only dared to target level-two mutated lifeforms with the help of Camilla's Paralytic Potion, which she could only make occasionally. Evolving into a two-star powerhouse seemed like a distant dream.
But now, William not only had professional skills that made killing level-twos as easy as killing chickens, but he also had the Staff of Nature and even a robot that made killing level-twos just as easy.
Why was there such a huge difference among survivors struggling to live in the apocalypse?!
And what were those Warblades emitting white light that everyone seemed to have?!
It wasn't just Camilla and Tom who were surprised; the rest of the team was also shocked. Under Devil's Gamble, they had seen the power of the mechanic. The ray that could severely injure or even kill level-three lifeforms was unforgettable.
But today, this slightly modified mechanic's ray truly stunned them. They felt that this time, the power was even greater.
'Without the Quell Card, William might have been able to take on the Fang Beasts alone.' This thought arose in everyone's mind, and they looked at William with even more reverence and admiration.
He was a monster, a god evolving towards invincibility. Fortunately, William was on their side.
In Firing Mode 1, the turret's firing interval was ten seconds per shot. With William and the mechanic's two consecutive strikes, more than half of the front-line Fang Beasts were eliminated, posing no significant threat to the team. The two consecutive strikes also caused the remaining Fang Beasts to scatter in fear.
The turret then aimed at another group of Fang Beasts, trying to flank them.
The disappearance of their leader hadn't caused much chaos among them, but the two dazzling attacks had. The rapidly charging group slowed down, and seeing their companions scatter, they came to a complete stop.
They became perfect targets.
The ray fired again, instantly slicing through the Fang Beasts' ranks.
The entire group was split in half by the ray.
At least twenty Fang Beasts were cut in half, their internal organs and blood spilling out. They writhed on the ground for a couple of seconds before dying completely.
The level-three Fang Beast leader's eyes turned red, its mouth wide open as it howled to the sky. It couldn't understand why, in front of these humans with a maximum evolution level of only level two, its kind was suffering such devastating losses. It waved its right hand, commanding its subordinates to charge. With the Fang Beasts' speed, they could cover the 100-foot distance in seconds.
William shook his head and threw the Quell Card. A massive shadow blocked the level-three leader.
This was the true leader of the Fang Beasts.
Seeing their missing leader suddenly appear, the deputy's face lit up with joy. Just as it was about to say something to its leader, it saw the leader raise its hand and plunge it into its own chest.
