Chapter 66 The Counterattack of the Purple Cloud War Ants

"Miss, it's not that we don't want to let you go, but it's extremely dangerous ahead. You'll be safer if you stay with us," someone urgently advised.

Victor looked at the slender, alluring woman, a well-concealed glint of interest in his eyes. He wasn't interested in the woman's appearance or body but in the aura of an evolved being she exuded and the strange whip.

Unlike many who were lucky enough to become evolved beings on the first day of the apocalypse, Victor's path to evolution was more arduous. At the start of the apocalypse, Victor was just a squatter guarding two small houses.

He was constantly at odds with various demolition forces, trying to prevent his home from being forcibly taken down. He had even brought his parents, who were over eighty, and several elderly or bedridden relatives to live in the two small houses.

After the apocalypse began, these older adults couldn't withstand the mutation wave and turned into flesh-eating zombies.

In his prime, Victor was terrified and ran out, only to return because there were even more of these monsters outside.

To survive, he mustered the courage to kill his mutated relatives. The bedridden elderly zombies, who could only crawl, posed limited threats. As long as Victor wasn't too scared to move, killing them wasn't too difficult.

While burying these bodies at a construction site behind his house, Victor unexpectedly discovered a roulette wheel. This intriguing object stood there, emitting a tempting glow.

Victor wasn't stupid. He quickly figured out how to use it. He used the magic crystals from his relatives' foreheads to spin the wheel and obtained a card whose purpose he didn't even know.

Later, when he went out to find food, he encountered Owen, who was leading a team to clear zombies. He traded the card and the location of the roulette wheel for food, water, and a bottle of evolution serum.

For some unknown reason, Owen also assigned some survivors to Victor's management.

This gave the previously insignificant Victor his first taste of leadership.

But Victor was self-aware. He knew that the commander wouldn't make him an evolved being for no reason, especially since many of Owen's subordinates had yet to receive evolution serums. He didn't think he was better than those excellent soldiers.

It wasn't until Owen assigned him tasks and gave him some weapons that Victor finally understood—they wanted him to be cannon fodder!

'No wonder they are willing to sacrifice a bottle of evolution serum! No, it isn't a sacrifice. I have paid for this with a card!' Victor thought.

Victor realized that his card might be worth far more than the evolution serum.

But he said nothing, nor did he show any signs of dissatisfaction with Owen. He even obediently followed orders and led some people to be cannon fodder here.

Victor knew that expressing any dissatisfaction would be useless. The result would be something other than getting what he deserved by possibly becoming a corpse.

So, he wisely chose to comply and left his fate to God. Victor understood one thing: he didn't reason with the strong. If he couldn't reclaim his fairness, he could only bow his head and submit.

But the beautiful woman gave Victor a glimmer of hope to seek fairness. An evolved being and a strange weapon!

More importantly, with the keen hearing he had honed from dealing with demolition personnel, he heard a man's voice giving orders through the woman's walkie-talkie.

All these indicated that the woman was part of a team. and Although she was powerful, she wasn't the leader!

In just one day of the apocalypse, a team this strong must have its methods of becoming powerful!

Victor was tempted. He wanted to obtain this method more than he had ever desired a woman in his life.

But Victor was cautious. He preferred to obtain what he wanted through gentle means rather than fighting the woman. However, the woman's firm attitude made Victor consider using force.

"Since you don't want to stay, why don't you tell me how you evolved and how you got that whip?" Victor asked as he held his gun, the muzzle slowly moving towards the woman.

When the setting sun sank a bit more, the shadows of the tall buildings rose, just covering Natalie's pretty face. A ray of the setting sun reflected a glint in her eyes.

"I'm very afraid of death. There's no special reason. Ever since I almost drowned as a child, I've been afraid of dying, so I've always tried hard to stay alive," Natalie said.

Victor was stunned. He didn't understand why the woman was saying this.

"I used to live a very exhausting life. I was like a sheep, surrounded by predators, not knowing when those beasts would devour me. With the world in chaos now, many of those beasts have turned into corpses. Although I could die at any moment, I feel more relaxed than ever," Natalie slowly untied the whip made of mutated willow and blood tongue, speaking leisurely as if she were talking to herself.

"I am lucky to meet a man who could help me survive and live well. Although he was strict with me and even hit me, he genuinely cared for me. He made me strong and taught me how to survive in the apocalypse.

"I'm very happy. For the first time in years, someone gave me a sense of reliance. Now, this person needs my help. He's in great danger, but you're stopping me," Natalie said, then she took a deep breath.

"Move aside!" Natalie commanded. She suddenly showed a violent emotion that made Victor shudder.

"Or die!" Natalie threatened.

When the human war machine was fully activated, the power it unleashed was immense.

Two battalions of soldiers used their advanced weapons to create a dense web of firepower, roaring toward the hundreds of terrifying purple ants ahead, drawing brilliant lines in the twilight air.

The dozen or so the Purple Cloud War Ants at the forefront were torn to pieces in the first second by this metal storm! Although these level-one beasts had decent defenses, they couldn't withstand such concentrated attacks.

The success of the first wave of attacks clearly boosted the soldiers' morale. They roared, advancing towards the Purple Cloud War Ants step by step according to their training, continuously shooting and toppling one monster after another.

Victory seemed within reach. But William, hiding behind the newsstand, shook his head in disapproval.

So far, three types of monsters have emerged from the black hole: the Crimson Steel Beasts, the Dreadrams, and the Purple Cloud War Ants. Why did William choose the seemingly larger and more challenging level-two Dreadrams over the level-one, pig-sized Purple Cloud War Ants?

Because these Purple Cloud War Ants were no weaklings, if the soldiers thought the battle would continue to go smoothly, they were gravely mistaken!

As if to confirm William's concerns, the Purple Cloud War Ants finally began their counterattack.

From the back of the swarm, a few Purple Cloud War Ants suddenly took to the air. Their abdomens contracted intensely, almost sticking to their backs.

After a second, the heads of these Purple Cloud War Ants shot forward, their mouths opening wide, and jets of foul-smelling green liquid sprayed out!
