Chapter 300 The Tip of the Iceberg in the Mystery of the Apocalypse

These days, the once lively Poppy roulette wheel looked pretty dead under the sun.

Ever since William, the guy with the level five Battle Pet, took off, and the level five Dragon made its escape, the place just wasn't the same. But it was still the most dangerous spot in Accraville City.

The monster faction had scattered, but the zombie faction and the mutated animal faction had taken over. Over time, their numbers grew, even surpassing what it was when there were three factions.

The two factions were camped out on either side of the roulette wheel, staring each other down from a few hundred feet away.

The area around the Poppy roulette wheel wasn't exactly locked down; there were plenty of ways to get to the wheel. The factions left it that way, hoping humans would come and take a spin.

But no one was showing up. Because everyone knew one could go in alive, but wouldn't come out the same way.

The air still smelled like blood from an incident that morning.

The Major Power Alliance had launched an attack at dawn after some serious planning.

They borrowed a bunch of tactics from William, like using The Blood of Evolution to stir up chaos among the factions after spinning the wheel, and using pros and certain skills to boost their chances of success and survival.

But reality hit these Accraville City elites hard.

They failed. They didn't even have time to grab the rewards that popped up in the materials zone before getting swarmed by the two major factions of mutated life forms. The chaos from The Blood of Evolution happened, but it quickly turned against those who went to spin the wheel.

The other survivors who tried to cover their retreat took heavy losses and ran for their lives.

The drop of The Blood of Evolution was snagged by the Mutated Mouse King. After chowing down on it, it didn't hit level five, but its strength shot up, showing signs of a breakthrough. It watched over the Poppy roulette wheel with even greater vigilance.

The zombies weren't as lucky. They only managed to munch on a few Evolving persons, one of whom was three-star level, but it was still nothing compared to The Blood of Evolution.

"What kind of crappy plan was that? They're all dead, every single one!" Raymond, covered in blood, stormed back to the temporary camp and yelled at the equally messed-up Ernesto, Lawrence, and the others.

"Stop yelling. You think you're the only one who lost people? We all lost people!" Ernesto snapped back. He had thought that without the level five Dragon guarding the wheel, things would be easier. But they still failed, and it was a total disaster. They had almost no chance of success.

But the lure of the items on the Poppy roulette wheel was too strong. If they could spin a bottle of Evolution Elixir or a good weapon, their strength would skyrocket, making future evolution a breeze.

Unfortunately, after two tries over several days, they had burned through a ton of Magic Crystals and lost over a hundred people, gaining nothing.

"Bad news!" Someone ran in, sweating bullets. "The people from Star Beauty Company have left."

"Damn, that wretched woman, they're breaking away from the group at this moment?"

Everyone knew that the team's defeat and low morale meant that Star Beauty Company's departure would make the whole alliance's situation even worse, risking collapse.

"Let them go. Everyone's got their own ambitions." Lawrence was pretty disheartened. The Peaceful warband had already taken heavy losses, and more people died today, making the old man want to throw in the towel.

Arthur stitched up a nasty wound on his arm, took a few bites of the bone handed to him by his subordinate, and then stood up abruptly. "I'm going solo, too."

With that, he left with the people from Accraville City prison.

Everyone fell silent, then slowly drifted apart. At that moment, the Major Power Alliance of Accraville City disbanded.

This seemingly minor breakup unexpectedly had a huge impact on the future of Accraville City, something no one saw coming.

William had no clue that some of the folks he was counting on had already bailed. He, along with his men, was lying in ambush not far behind the mutated animals' camp.

"Got the routes down?" William asked.

"Yep!"

"And the flag signals?"

"Yep!"

Hearing the low murmurs of confirmation, William felt a bit more at ease.

"Remember," he said, "when the fight kicks off, someone needs to keep an eye on the flag signals. Follow the orders as soon as they pop up! Don't get stuck in the fight. If you can't break through, back off immediately. Look out for yourselves!"

The tough mutated life forms William was talking about were the two factions around the roulette wheel.

He had thought about having Darryl use his Deceptive Shapeshifter skill again, but even if they pulled it off, he didn't have the Magic Crystals to spin the wheel. Plus, the more Darryl used his skill, the higher the risk of getting caught. It was better to save it for now.

But the longer the Poppy roulette wheel stayed there, the more unpredictable things got. In the past couple of days, people had spotted the Dragon around the city. William knew the Dragon was starting to doubt the authenticity of his Battle Pet. It was testing the waters and hunting like crazy to level up. The Dragon would probably be back at the Poppy roulette wheel soon.

Therefore, William must swiftly procure a substantial quantity of Magic Crystals.

In Accraville City, the only place that could meet William's needs was the two factions of mutated life forms gathered together. So, William set his sights on them.

This decision freaked out a lot of folks in the small alliance, but most of them still followed when it was time to move.

William's past actions had given them a lot of confidence, and for William himself, evolving to a four-star level gave him the guts to take on the Mouse King and Zombie King.

"Let's do this!" With William's command, the battle kicked off instantly.

On the outskirts of Accraville City, atop a high-rise building, three people stood side by side at the edge, unfazed by the strong winds blowing at that height.

"I rushed back as soon as I got the news. It was a rough trip, but I made it in time," A middle-aged man said in a weird white robe, standing with his hands behind his back, looking at the faintly visible roulette wheel in the distance, a smile on his face.

Another guy snorted, clearly annoyed. "You're just a hound. When there were benefits in The Land of Death, you went there. Now that there are benefits in Accraville City, you're back."

"I call it bravery," the man in the white robe said, his smile fading. "The battles in The Land of Death were brutal, almost like trading lives for benefits. It's hard to believe that even those of us who got the news early had such a tough time."

The three fell silent, looking at the seemingly dead city below, their expressions hardening.

"Alright, let's not dwell on it. Unraveling the mysteries of the apocalypse is not a task that can be accomplished overnight. We'll just follow the clues from these roulette wheels and places like The Land of Death." The man in the white robe clapped his hands lightly, then smiled at the man in the middle, Connor King, and said, "Connor, you've always been in charge of ranking the forces in Accraville City. Tell us, which forces should we team up with this time?"

Connor, the youngest of the three, seemed to hold a higher status than the other two. He chuckled softly and started to speak.

The strong wind swept over the three men's heads, blowing towards the rooftop platform behind them. There, a neatly arranged phalanx of soldiers in uniform gray gear, holding uniform gray spears, stood silently, exuding a murderous aura.

At that moment, an invisible hand gently lifted a corner of the iceberg of the apocalypse's mystery.
