Chapter 229 Red Hair and Gray Hair
Letting go of the one-star Evolving human, who was now looking pretty lifeless, its slim but strong light gray hand wiped the corner of its mouth, leaving a streak of crimson that popped against the red and white.
It tilted its head, eyeing a crooked, dusty billboard ahead, its bloodshot eyes showing a hint of confusion.
'Words,' it thought. 'What are those? How do you look at them? They seem familiar, but I can't remember.'
The Red-haired Iron Corpse stood up, kicked away the corpse at its feet, and strolled over to the fallen billboard. Gently wiping away the dust, it stared at the pretty ad words for a long time without saying a thing.
Hearing a cat's meow from not far behind, the Red-haired Iron Corpse twitched its ears. Its red hair draped over its shoulders started moving without any wind.
Then it turned its head and saw the annoying big black cat and the infuriating woman, who was watching it with her arms crossed.
For some reason, the Red-haired Iron Corpse felt that "infuriating woman" was the right way to describe the Witch.
"You... can't... escape," the Witch murmured, her gray hair fluttering. She moved her mouth quickly, but only managed to say a few words, looking like she wasn't quite used to talking this way.
If William were here, he'd be totally shocked. No one had ever seen a third-level Witch that could speak?
Sure, lots of ninth-level mutated creatures had learned human language, but Witches were those super smart creatures that could even speak dialects. Of course, this was about ninth-level Witches.
But even if these mutated creatures were really smart, they could never speak before hitting intermediate evolution.
It seemed that the Mind Parasite she ate had a big impact on her.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse's usually blank face showed a sneer-like expression, clearly looking down on the Witch.
The black cat's meow turned shrill, totally different from its usual gentle tone. With its fur standing on end, it bared its fangs, arched its back, and gave a warning to the Red-haired Iron Corpse.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse responded with a snort, thinking, 'Looks like the injuries I caused have healed again.'
"Let me... eat you... and you'll be... free," the Witch stammered after two tries, her voice clear and pleasant.
"You... without... the main body... can't evolve," the Witch started again. But this sentence was a bit long, and she seemed unsure how to say it, so her face showed a lot of anxiety.
Finally, she managed to finish, "You... will be... killed... better me... eat you."
The Red-haired Iron Corpse listened with a frown, unclear if it understood.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse opened its mouth, humming but unable to produce clear words like the Witch, making the Witch and her cat tilt their heads to listen with great difficulty.
"You say... you... are... getting stronger?" the Witch said, stunned for a moment, then said, "No... way."
Anger suddenly surged on the Red-haired Iron Corpse's pretty face. It opened its mouth, revealing neat, white teeth still stained with fresh human blood.
It suddenly raised its hand, and a thorn emerged from its fingertip, growing longer and longer until it hit the ground, about 13 feet long.
It seemed to be showing off, raising its other hand, and a thorn also emerged from its index fingertip, coiling at its feet.
With a shake of its arms, the two thorny vines sprang to life, writhing on the ground like two dancing snakes.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse looked all smug, tilting its chin up at the Witch and the black cat.
Looking at the opponent she had been tangled with for days, the Witch shook her head slightly. "You..."
Before she could finish, her expression changed dramatically, and she jumped back with her black cat!
Just as they left their spot, dozens of sharp thorns shot up from the ground like ice picks, stabbing at where the Witch and the black cat had been.
"Des...picable!" the Witch cursed.
Missing the attack and hearing the Witch's taunt, the Red-haired Iron Corpse didn't look frustrated at all. Instead, it looked excited. The thorns on the ground intertwined with the thorny vines in its hands, spreading rapidly in all directions at an insane speed.
The Witch and the black cat were known for their speed, but just as they jumped to dodge the last attack and landed, the ground beneath them was already covered with thorns. From above, it looked like a huge thorny circle centered on them.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse made a few sounds that only the Witch could understand.
"You... can't kill me!" the Witch said.
In a moment of crisis, her speech got smoother. She suddenly hugged the black cat, and her long gray hair started growing rapidly. Using the momentum of her fall, she wrapped herself and the cat in her hair, forming a spinning gray hairball that landed on the thorny circle.
The collision made a loud noise, and the whole thorny circle twitched violently like it got electrocuted. The gray hairball was flung away and crashed into a nearby building, shattering it into pieces.
The Witch and the black cat fell out, looking pretty rough.
A flush flashed across the Red-haired Iron Corpse's face, and the thorny circle quickly morphed into two giant snake-like forms standing in front of it. The heads of the vines moved back and forth like flicking tongues, and in an instant, hundreds of wooden spikes shot out from the open mouths, fanning out towards the Witch.
Furious, the Witch spread out her gray hair, and hundreds of needle-like gray strands collided head-on with the wooden spikes.
As the two attacks almost canceled each other out in mid-air, a thick Thorn Whip shot out from the building behind the Witch, striking her and her cat and sending them flying.
Before the Red-haired Iron Corpse could celebrate, a sharp pain hit its head, and a claw mark appeared on its chest, leaving several bloody gashes.
Both sides were hurt at the same time.
The Red-haired Iron Corpse shook its head to clear it, glanced at the opponent it had struck, and turned to flee into the distance. The Witch stood up and roared, chasing after it with her black cat.
They quickly disappeared among the skyscrapers of Accraville City.
William had a strong urge to kill these two third-level monsters and take their Magic Crystals.
But he knew he couldn't do that. One of the Double-headed demons still had decent combat power, and although the other was injured, it would be terrifying if it fought desperately. Plus, there were countless zombies around them.
The safety of the grain convoy was the top priority. If he acted recklessly, who knew what unknown dangers might pop up?
William looked into the distance, thinking, 'Gemma went to stop the enemy. Who was she stopping? Where is she now?'
