Chapter 330 Whose Head Is Flying?
Finnegan didn't give Michelle a second thought.
The Zero Commerce Guild, thanks to their past dealings, were pretty sharp with their intel. They might not have had a full grasp on Cloud Peak Manor like the Honor Legion, but they knew about them first and even had some interactions.
But when Quincy had to back off, they realized the info from Brody was crap. When William alone cleaned up at the Accurately Exchange Roulette Wheel, the Zero Commerce Guild got the hint about how strong the Cloud Peak Manor leader was. They assumed it would take four Lords to bring him down.
They kinda ignored the rest of Cloud Peak Manor crew, though.
This happened a lot when a group had a strong leader. Everyone got so focused on the big guy that they forgot about the others.
The Zero Commerce Guild didn't even know all the names of Cloud Peak Manor's key players.
But once the fight kicked off, Finnegan realized he messed up big time.
Michelle, the stunning woman in front of him, was a beast.
Her dual blades were a blur, each strike making him uncomfortable. She was clearly well-trained. With her Swordsman skills and white Warblade, even in his Mother of the Earth form, Finnegan felt the heat.
Michelle had noticed the flames in the sky.
Unlike other survivors who became evolved humans, Michelle was a former national guard commander with a sharp battlefield sense. From the moment the plane with the crate showed up to the explosion, and with William still MIA, she knew something was off.
Whether they liked it or not, everyone here could lose and die, but William was different.
If anything happened to William, Cloud Peak Manor would be toast.
All those factions William had pissed off, those who envied or feared his power, those eyeing his gear, would swoop in and tear apart the base he just set up.
So Michelle's only thought was to end this fight ASAP and check on William.
Her face was unusually cold, with small cuts on her cheeks bleeding a bit, giving her a wild charm instead of looking messy.
Those who knew Michelle knew that when she wasn't smiling, it meant she was about to blow up.
Her dual blades sliced towards Finnegan's arms from a weird angle, seemingly missing. But two Mud Thorns extending from Finnegan's fingers got in the way and were cut off. Then Michelle kicked Finnegan's chest, making him stumble back a few steps.
Michelle didn't let up, her blade shadows once again closing in on Finnegan.
No one expected a woman from Cloud Peak Manor to hold her own against a Lord. Both Chester and Stella, the leaders of Accraville City, were in tough fights, and no one thought Michelle could match these two leaders.
This wasn't underestimating the stunning and fit Michelle, but just how things were in Accraville City. If a group had a super strong leader, their followers were usually much weaker.
Because of the roulette's unique nature, to evolve to higher levels, humans had to constantly challenge stronger mutated beings. They had to learn to cooperate, use various resources, and develop ways to deal with high-level creatures.
To fight or even hunt stronger mutated beings, humans had to focus resources on one person, letting them evolve quickly and gain immense power, so they could lead others more effectively.
Once resources were concentrated, it created a power gap between individuals. Bridging this gap took time. Normally, the first person to get powerful would want to keep that edge, as it meant priority access to resources and almost all other rights that came with it!
Right now, in Accraville City, and pretty much everywhere else, the leaders of each faction were super strong, while their followers were way weaker.
This wasn't always the case, but it was true for most groups.
Everyone knew William, the leader of Cloud Peak Manor, was a beast. People even thought he could take on two Lords at once. But the idea that his crew could be stronger than a Lord? Yeah, no one bought that. They figured William's power came from hogging all the resources.
So, when Michelle managed to hold her own against Finnegan, it blew everyone's minds.
"Full Form!" Finnegan yelled, feeling the heat. The brown mud covering him started to bubble and move like crazy.
Michelle slashed at his shoulder, but instead of just mud, she hit something hard as steel underneath.
The mud where she struck turned into two small tentacles, grabbing onto her blade, Edge of the Moon, trapping it. At the same time, Finnegan raised his arm, and a bigger Mud Thorn than before shot straight at Michelle.
Michelle ditched the Edge of the Moon, twisted her other Warblade to dodge the Mud Thorn, and slashed at Finnegan's chin.
The mud turned into a shield, blocking her strike.
Worried this blade might get trapped too, Michelle quickly pulled it back, slid over to where she left Edge of the Moon, cut off a tentacle, and grabbed her blade again.
"Die now!" Finnegan roared, and a thick, long Mud Thorn shot out from his chest.
The attack was sudden and from a totally unexpected spot. Before, the Mud Thorns came from his fingers, but now one shot out from his chest. It was clear Finnegan's earlier weakness was just a setup for this new attack!
Everyone watching thought Michelle was done for.
But Michelle's eyes narrowed, showing no surprise. She even stepped forward to meet the attack!
"Double Knife!" The dual blades in Michelle's hands glowed brighter than ever.
A semi-transparent shield appeared in front of her, clashing with the massive Mud Thorn. The shield shattered instantly, and the Mud Thorn pierced into Michelle's chest.
At the same time, her blades' light fell on Finnegan's head! A holy halo surrounded Michelle.
If you watched the blade light frame by frame, you'd see the boiling, super-defensive mud being peeled away by her Warblades. Each strike took off a thin layer, but after countless hits, Finnegan's head was getting peeled like an onion.
Finnegan screamed in fear. He hadn't expected Michelle to be so nuts, not dodging his powerful attack but using a new skill instead!
And what were that shield and the white halo?
The mud on his body frantically surged towards his head, trying to hold out until Michelle's skill ended, stopping her from peeling his head like an onion.
But Finnegan finally saw how crazy Michelle was. With the Mud Thorn in her chest, she kept following him, always staying within attack range. Her blades' light didn't fade, and mud pieces flew everywhere.
At this life-or-death moment, Finnegan went all out. He used all his mental power, and the mud on his body turned into countless Mud Thorns, stabbing at Michelle like crazy.
'Let's see who dies first!' Finnegan thought.
The battlefield froze for a moment as life and death were decided, followed by a chorus of gasps.
Michelle's body was pierced with dozens of wounds, almost no part of her body except her head was uninjured, and blood gushed out, soaking her clothes.
And a few feet in front of her, Finnegan's head was flying through the air.
Michelle won.
