Chapter 94 Bathed in Blood
The sharpness of Edge of the Moon could be effective even against a fourth-level mutated creature. A second-level evolved black cat, which wasn't known for its defense, couldn't possibly withstand it.
Even though it dodged at the last moment, thanks to the witch's warning, the blade still grazed its body, leaving a terrifying wound.
A large amount of blood spilled from the air. The black cat's body tumbled uncontrollably a few times before being caught by the agile witch just before it hits the ground.
When some strange, low syllables came from the witch's mouth, a faint glow appeared in her arms, enveloping the black cat.
"Is it energy transfer?" he wondered aloud.
William was stunned. Ignoring the gradually forming horde of zombies behind him, he channeled all his strength into a downward slash, giving the witch and the black cat no chance to recover.
Typically, a ninth-level evolved creature would have at least three innate skills, gaining new ones at the first, fifth, and ninth evolutions, with a maximum of nine skills.
However, this was an extreme case. William had never heard of a ninth-level evolved creature with nine innate skills.
In his memory, only the Sunbird, the lord of the Deathlands known as 'Heavenly Fire Inferno' before his rebirth, had seven innate skills, which was already the most he had ever seen.
In this regard, humans had an advantage. As long as you had the means, you could learn countless skills, provided you had the immense mental power to support their use.
A typical evolved lifeform would have about four or five innate skills by the time it reached level nine.
The witch was called a witch because she represented the epitome of mental power among evolved lifeforms. Her abilities were usually related to mental power.
Energy transfer was an incredibly powerful skill in the realm of mental abilities. This type of evolved lifeform generally only acquired this skill upon reaching level nine.
But unexpectedly, this witch had already awakened this skill at level two! Including the spiritual seed, this witch had awakened innate skills in both of her evolutions!
The power of Energy exchange skill lies in its ability to transfer energy! When injured, energy could be transferred to accelerate healing. During evolution, energy could be shared. At higher skill levels, even life could be shared.
Just like now, the mutated black cat had a large gash on its side from William's slash. Although not fatal, it was enough to temporarily hinder it, which was a severe injury for an agile creature.
But because the witch had energy exchange, she could use her energy to heal this wound. If William didn't act quickly, he would soon face two troublesome opponents again.
William was strong, but he was ultimately just a One-star Evolver!
Seeing William react so quickly and decisively, the witch cried out, holding the black cat as she began to retreat. Although the witch wasn't as swift as her pet, the witch was still much faster than William.
With a few leaps, she had put a considerable distance between them, leaving William glaring helplessly.
It was no longer feasible to pursue. William jumped onto a shelf, grabbed his shield, and quickly cleared the zombies around him. He also took the opportunity to dig out some magic crystals. Near a window, he smashed the glass with his elbow and jumped out.
Although the danger was ever-present, sunlight always provided a sense of security. William felt a bit relieved after leaving the supermarket.
However, he was injured and needed to bandage his wounds. Otherwise, he would become an enticing target for countless zombies.
William had memorized the surroundings of the supermarket. Following his planned route, he began to retreat, killing any zombies that dared to block his path.
Unlike in the supermarket, William didn't stop at all on the road. He moved quickly, hoping to leave the area as soon as possible. But he had a nagging feeling that things wouldn't end so easily.
As expected, after running down a street, he noticed the zombies around him behaving unusually. Even those at a distance were converging towards him. He also heard the loud squeaks of mutated rats from below, getting louder and closer.
In the sky, the sound of flapping wings echoed from the shadows behind tall buildings as if some birds were approaching.
Sensing the approaching danger, William immediately dashed into a nearby building, avoiding the troublesome horde. If he got surrounded by these relentless creatures, it would be over.
William quickly traversed the building and emerged on the other side, only to face six or seven mutated pigeons. These pigeons were as large as eagles, with a second-level gray pigeon leading them.
William's eyes flashed with determination, and his killing intent surged. His ten years of apocalyptic training showed in his decisiveness and bravery. He swung the Edge of the Moon with precision and ferocity, slicing the leading second-level mutant gray pigeon in half, its filthy blood splattering in the air.
Using his arm shield to block two mutant pigeons attempting to ambush him, William swung the Edge of the Moon repeatedly, killing these birds that should have been soaring in the sky but were now grounded.
After sustaining a scratch on his shoulder, William managed to slaughter all the mutated pigeons within half a minute.
But the danger wasn't over. A nearby manhole cover was suddenly knocked aside, and a swarm of mutated rats emerged from the sewer. These cat-sized, blood-red-eyed creatures immediately pounced on the pigeon corpses, tearing and devouring them without hesitation.
William quickly grabbed the Second-Level Magic Crystal before the rats could, but then he was attacked by the swarm.
There were too many of them. Excluding those on the mutant pigeon corpses, over a hundred were charging at William!
A large number of zombies had entered the building William had just passed through, tracking his scent and cutting off his escape route.
Holding his blade, William suddenly felt something odd. He looked up to the right and saw the witch standing on a rooftop, keeping the injured black cat and coldly watching him.
'So it was you!' he angrily thought.
William realized that although the witch could only control one pet, she could likely communicate some information to other evolved lifeforms.
This creature could communicate with other mutated creatures!
William's ferocity was fully unleashed. He pointed Edge of the Moon at the witch and made a throat-slitting gesture.
A mocking smile appeared on the witch's face, which had become even paler from healing her pet. She seemed to be saying, "You're overestimating yourself."
With a roar, William charged into the swarm of mutated rats, killing them madly. He even abandoned some of his defenses, using his arm shield to protect his vital areas and trading injuries to increase his efficiency in killing the rats.
On the rooftop, the witch showed a look of surprise. Her intelligence was clearly higher than other second-level creatures, and although she couldn't yet describe this moment with words, she was shocked by the blood-soaked human below.
Every swing of his blade produced a terrifying light that made her soul tremble. Each blade light could cut through several mutated rats. These first-level and even second-level creatures, which could rampage through half a city, were so fragile before the blade light!
In less than a minute, dozens of mutated rats lay dead, including two second-level large rats!
These filthy creatures, accustomed to living in darkness, were terrified. Over two hundred had charged, and a third had already died under the silver blade. How many more would it take to kill the blade's owner?
The mutated rats couldn't calculate this, but their instinct for self-preservation made them fearful.
A second-level rat screeched a few times and led the retreat back into the sewer, followed by the swarm. In moments, they were all gone.
Covered in blood, William stared at the slender figure on the rooftop. He raised Edge of the Moon and made the throat-slitting gesture again.
Just like before!
The witch gave the human a deep look, then turned to disappear, holding the black cat.
