Chapter 96 Such a Powerful Profession

Jack immediately raised his hand. And excitedly said, "Me!"

Natalie and Candice both glared at him, instantly making Jack wilt. One was his team leader, while the other was a social media influencer he really liked. Jack was naturally afraid of one and eager to please the other so that he couldn't withstand their combined gaze.

At the same time, Jack knew that the Career Scroll wasn't meant for him. First, he hadn't been with William long enough to earn his trust or make significant contributions. Second, he wasn't an evolver yet, so his career would be wasted on him.

"You have more than one profession, don't you?" Candice suddenly asked William.

Although she didn't say it outright, she felt that William had other professions besides being a craftsman.

William nodded in agreement.

She refused, "Then I don't want it either. I don't want to have just one profession." Candice had always wanted to become as powerful as William. She unconsciously set him as her goal.

Since William had more than one profession, it meant that his path to becoming stronger required multiple professions. She wanted to follow the same path rather than having just one profession, especially one that was mainly supportive.

Seeing that Candice wasn't interested, William focused on Natalie. William trusted Natalie the most, even more than Candice. He wasn't a fool. He understood what her gaze towards him implied.

However, he also knew her personality and ambitions, so he guessed she wouldn't choose this profession either.

"I don't want it either," Natalie refused.

As expected, after considering it for a moment, Natalie chose to give it up. This career didn't suit her personality. Although she didn't have Candice's ambition to catch up with William, she also didn't want to be a supporting character healing others from the back.

So, everyone's eyes fell on the last person eligible for the scroll.

Lucy instinctively tried to push up her glasses but realized there was nothing there. Her glasses had broken during their escape, and since becoming an evolver, her nearsightedness had been cured.

"I, I..." Lucy stammered, her face turning red, unable to articulate her thoughts.

"What are you hesitating for?" Natalie asked since she couldn't hold back any longer. She had gotten along well with this moral and delicate teacher over the past few days, likely due to their complementary personalities, and they were on the verge of becoming close friends.

Seeing Lucy's hesitant expression, Natalie grew anxious for her. She encouraged Lucy, "Look, you don't want to fight. Now you have a chance to be a support. Just say you want it! This career suits your personality perfectly. A clean freak and a light-bringer, isn't that a perfect match?"

Candice and Jack both laughed at this, and even William and Michelle had smiles on their faces. Natalie can be refreshingly straightforward at times.

"Yes, I want it," Lucy mustered her courage to claim it and looked at William with bright eyes.

When she had looked at the Oath Parchment Scroll earlier, her heart was filled with desire. This career seemed tailor-made for her.

Although the apocalypse had been going on for almost a week, Lucy had experienced more in that time than in her entire life.

She was smart enough to become a university teacher, so she understood what kind of world this was. She knew it required killing. Although she had wielded a knife and decapitated zombies that were once human, she still resisted the idea.

But she understood that she wasn't the protagonist of this world. To survive, some things had to be done. Lucy had already decided to go on adventures, kill, and become as ruthless as the world around her.

But suddenly, a new path appeared before her. She could avoid killing and even save people. The light was exactly what this world needed!

Lucy knew that by learning this career, she would still be serving William and the team. She would still face battles and scenes of bloodshed. But wasn't that already a significant improvement? Maybe she couldn't restore the world to its former state, but at least she could reduce the pain and even prevent death for those around her.

In such a world, this was a blessing from God.

Lucy wanted this career. She didn't have the overwhelming desire to become powerful like Candice and Natalie. She just wanted to live decently, or at least relatively decent.

"I can give this to you, but do you know what it means for you and us once you learn this career?" William handed the Oath Parchment Scroll and the career badge to Lucy, asking seriously.

Looking at William's slightly stubbled face, Lucy suddenly realized that this man had matured a lot since they first met. Before, she could still sense a bit of the youthful inexperienced college student about to enter society. Now, he was marked by the weariness of someone who had been through a lot.

Lucy naturally knew what it meant.

Once she took the scroll, it meant she and this man would be inseparably linked, forming an unbreakable team, sharing life and death and mutual interests. They would be tied together for life.

If she had any other thoughts, the result would be a life-and-death struggle between them.

A hand reached out and held hers. Lucy looked over and met Natalie's expectant gaze.

"I can't guarantee this is the best choice for you, but I can guarantee it's the right one," Natalie said.

"This man who once held a knife to your throat and slapped me isn't so bad, is he? At least he's worth our trust and following," Natalie added.

Lucy looked at William again. Her slender fingers grasped the slightly rough parchment.

Years later, when William and his team became the focus of the world, many people believed that this moment marked the official formation of the team's core.

When a gentle, warm light flashed, Lucy became the Apostle of Light. She excitedly looked at her hands, her ears turning red.

"Healing Light!" Lucy said.

A holy white light enveloped William, and his wounds began to heal rapidly. Moments later, except for the three deepest wounds on his back, the rest were as good as new.

This miraculous skill amazed everyone, making them feel reassured about future injuries.

"How many times can you use it?" William asked.

Lucy tilted her head, thinking, "Eight or nine times."

William's eye twitched in disappointment. He thought, 'Indeed, this is a once-in-a-lifetime profession. Either the mental energy is enviably abundant, or the skill's mental energy consumption is enviably low.'

Seeing that William was about to spin the wheel again, Lucy panicked and grabbed his arm, saying, "I have more skills!"

This time, William was even more surprised and asked, "Aren't you an Apprentice Apostle of Light?"

"Apprentice?" Lucy looked confused. "Are you talking about my current career level? My current level is Apostle of Light. The next level is Messenger of Light, then Saint of Light, then Holy Maiden of Light, followed by Divine Messenger of Light, and finally, Goddess of Light."

After hearing Lucy's words and recalling the career skills he had seen earlier, William had only one thought.

'This is too much!' he thought, unfairly.
