Chapter 150 One Person Holding Back the Zombie Horde
This guy's death seemed to kick off something big. The top-tier zombies finally started to make their move.
Not far from Little Zombie, a short but super bulky Big Head zombie with a massive noggin burst out of the horde.
The Big Head zombie looked freaky. Its round head, which made up a third of its body, was smooth as a yoga ball, with no human features. It was like a giant yoga ball with legs.
The human in front of it was so freaked out that he took a couple of steps back. He jabbed at it with a makeshift weapon—a fruit knife welded to an iron rod. But the blade just clanged off the blue-green head. It didn’t even scratch it, and the impact made the knife fall off the rod.
The Big Head zombie’s creepy head suddenly tilted up, revealing a hidden face underneath. No ears, no nose, no eyebrows—just a pair of tiny eyes, like soybeans, looking awkward on that huge head.
But it had a massive mouth, about a few feet long when closed, stretching across the middle of its head.
When this big mouth appeared, the corners curled up like it was about to smile. But then it snapped open, and dozens of black or dark green fleshy tendrils with sharp, palm-length, conical teeth at the tips shot out.
These tendrils shot from the Big Head zombie's mouth, and as it got closer to the human, they found their mark and pierced his body.
The guy couldn’t dodge it in time. He looked down in horror at the tendrils embedded in him, feeling them suck his flesh and blood. He tried to scream but had no strength left. The world seemed to shake, and he was gone.
The Big Head zombie pulled its tendrils out of the dead guy, its tiny eyes gleaming with excitement. But one human wasn’t enough. It charged at a new target.
Besides the second-level zombies, mutated animals were also on the prowl. Mutated poultry, now the size of calves, had somehow joined the fray. They occasionally flew up from the horde, and their pecking and clawing left ordinary humans defenseless.
Anyone they touched ended up with a huge bloody hole in their body. In moments, three or four people were down, instantly torn apart.
The once solid battle line now had a huge gap.
It was deadly.
It meant zombies and mutated animals could attack the survivors from all sides.
The number of human deaths stacked up with every second.
"Everyone, get over here!"William shouted, slashing open a mutated rooster that tried to ambush him. Ignoring the blood splatter, he expanded his attack range.
William asked, "How much longer?"
Lucy replied, "Eleven minutes!"
Lucy’s report made everyone feel a wave of despair. The remaining dozen ordinary people turned pale, seeing their doom.
"Don’t be scared, follow me, and retreat slowly!" William shouted.
With Natalie’s help, he gathered the remaining people around him. Natalie stood by his side, and the two of them took on most of the enemies, leaving the others to handle a smaller gap This eased the situation a bit.
And because they were retreating slowly, everyone felt a bit more hopeful.
William yelled, "Marcus!"
William shouted again, and the sniper who had been lying in ambush on the ruins fired.
This was Marcus's last magazine, the one Michelle had tossed to William before she left, and William had handed it to him.
Marcus pulled the trigger, and a long-legged leaper zombie that had just jumped into the air got shot right in the eye. It hit the sweet spot, killing the creature instantly.
The second bullet blew off a zombie's head, saving a survivor who had already closed his eyes, expecting death.
Marcus yelled out, "Captain Wright!"
Like Jack, Marcus started calling William this. "I see someone behind the horde of zombies!"
In this life-or-death moment, Marcus shouted to William.
William asked, "Within shooting range?"
Marcus replied, "Not enough!"
William's expression didn't change. If Marcus was right, then his suspicions were confirmed. The attack on Hope Base was orchestrated by that terrifying entity.
William instructed, "Ignore them! Natalie, go!"
Upon hearing the order, Natalie charged out of the formation, executing her Quadrilateral dance spin, clearing a space with her whip.
As soon as Natalie's skill ended, William rushed to her side, grabbed the weakened Natalie, and threw her backward with all his might.
William yelled, "Lucy, catch her!"
Lucy, whose mental strength was also drained, reached out to catch Natalie. Then the two women ran back immediately.
They were no longer of much use here.
"Everyone, retreat to the ruins!" William shouted.
He stood as a pillar, swinging the Edge of the Moon around his body, instantly cutting the surrounding zombies in half. These zombies didn't die because their heads weren't attacked.
However, as they fell to the ground and crawled forward, they grabbed onto anything they could, slowing down the zombies behind them. Many were even pulled down, causing a brief stagnation and chaos in the horde.
This gave the survivors a chance, and they used this opportunity to run to the ruins.
In an instant, half the humans had died. Those who made it felt like they had narrowly escaped death. However, after experiencing fear to a certain extent, those who survived had fewer concerns.
With bloodshot eyes, they didn't run away but instead picked up stones, bricks, steel bars, and even discarded firearms from the ruins, throwing them at the zombies below. Although they couldn't kill these zombies, even making them pause was good enough.
With no more humans around, William gradually let loose. His attacks became more expansive, even using some combat force techniques he had learned from Candice.
These techniques were the accumulation of countless generations' experience and skills. In his previous life, even if someone knew them, they wouldn't easily teach it to you unless you paid a high price.
But in his previous life, William had spent all his wealth on his profession, Level Promotion Scroll, and that green-level gun. Even if he met such experts, he had no spare money to learn from them.
Now, with Candice, who had received the most professional and systematic training from the peaceful time and had learned from masters with extraordinary skills that ordinary people couldn't access, William naturally wouldn't miss to take this opportunity.
William had already mastered the simplest and most straightforward experience of lethal combat. Now, with some techniques to control his body and even muscles, he became even more formidable, clearing out the surrounding mutated creatures.
The prowess of a two-star Evolving person was fully displayed. Even the Big Head zombie of the same level that tried to take advantage was decapitated by William with a single slash.
One person, under the ruins, single-handedly held off the tide of zombies. The survivors on the ruins were all stunned, their eyes and hearts filled with infinite reverence for William.
