Chapter 71 The Team Reunites
Lucy wasn't worth Candice getting so worked up over, but she understood very well that when she left, Candice was with William. Now that she was here, William must be here too!
Confirming this, Candice didn't care about anything else and jumped out of the window. She kept firing her handgun, blowing off the heads of one zombie after another.
"Are you crazy?!" Ivan shouted.
As soon as Ivan wasn't paying attention, Candice jumped out of the house. He shouted in fear, not understanding why she suddenly did that.
Louis and Jack exchanged a glance. These two usually had great respect for Candice. In the team, Candice treated these two who lived alone in the city like younger brothers, so the three had a good relationship.
Seeing their captain suddenly leave, the two looked at each other and understood each other's intentions. They flipped out of the window and followed Candice, leaving Ivan and Michelle stunned.
At this moment, footsteps were heard outside the door. Several fully armed people rushed in, led by Bert, who had just left.
"Where's Candice? She violated the rules! She must be held accountable!" Bert shouted.
Seeing this guy who had just fled in panic and was now returning arrogantly with people, Ivan and Michelle were furious. At a time like this, you're still playing bureaucratic games?
These soldiers would be better off fighting, not turning on their people now!
Already unhappy with Candice, Louis, and Jack leaving, Ivan glared and shouted, "What we need now is to fight! Not to hold anyone accountable!"
"I'll go get Candice back!" he added.
With that, he jumped out of the window and headed to the three who had left.
Michelle gripped her gun tightly. She really wanted to follow them, but thinking of her husband waiting for her to reunite, she hesitated and finally gave up.
She and they... were ultimately different.
Lucy had never hated anyone so much.
Howard, who was the nasal man she met at school, had shamelessly ambushed her.
Everything was going smoothly. She was observing the battlefield with binoculars, providing useful information to William and guiding Natalie to the rendezvous.
She was so focused that she didn't expect anyone to sneak up to the rooftop, and Howard caught Lucy off guard.
He interrogated her about everything regarding William and the apocalypse that he couldn't figure out.
Lucy could tell he was strong and clearly trained. When he restrained her, he targeted the most critical parts of the body.
But Howard didn't realize that Lucy was no longer the helpless schoolteacher he first met. She had become a formidable evolver.
So, when Howard's lustful intentions rose while questioning her, Lucy exploded.
Using a self-invented 'self-defense technique,' Lucy knocked Howard off the rooftop. If he hadn't been agile, he would have almost died from the fall.
But Lucy's burst of strength was limited. Although Howard wasn't an evolver, he had clearly spun the wheel and had several weapons. After a fierce fight, Lucy was ultimately no match for him.
So Lucy had to run, and her direction was out of her control.
The evolved body and the effects of the immunity potion allowed her to zigzag across the battlefield, eventually running to the most intense fighting area, making Howard too scared to chase her.
"Lucy!" Candice called.
Hearing that, Lucy snapped out of her escape mode and saw a familiar face, breaking into a big smile.
"Candice! Thank goodness you're here!" Lucy exclaimed as she hugged Candice excitedly, feeling much more at ease.
"What are you doing here? Where are William and Natalie?" Candice asked as she pulled Lucy in a direction, knowing this was no place for a reunion.
Before Lucy could answer, a massive tremor and shadow appeared. They saw the Chained Prisoner's terrifying face and mountainous body. The two women were stunned for a moment before snapping out of the shock.
"Oh no!" Lucy suddenly shouted, "The last time I saw William, he was heading towards that monster!"
Candice's face changed. She had already decided to follow William in the future and didn't want anything to happen to him, but this monster looked terrifying.
"We need to save Natalie first. She's in danger. I saw her fighting someone earlier." Lucy panted, pulling Candice along.
"But what about William?" Candice asked.
Though Lucy was gentle and somewhat stubborn, with a strong sense of justice, her analytical skills were good as a college teacher. From the previous situation before losing contact, it was clear William was looking for something and probably wouldn't provoke the monster.
But Natalie was different. She was already fighting. Her opponents were a group of people with many zombies and mutated creatures around. Natalie was in the most critical situation.
"He's fine for now. We'll save Natalie and then meet up with him. You know, many times, we're just a burden to him," Lucy explained.
Candice knew Lucy was right. She agreed and said, "Lead the way. Let's find Natalie."
"Mrs. Wright, wait for us!" Louis and Jack called out to her as they finally caught up. They shot down several zombies around them before panting nearby.
Not being evolved, they can't keep up with Candice. Keeping track was already a testament to their good professional skills.
"Why do you come over?" Candice asked.
"Why wouldn't we?" Louis pouted as he replied. "I see it clearly now. The world is in chaos. There's no point in staying there."
"Yeah, Mrs. Wright, we're with you. Wherever you go, we go," Jack added as he grinned foolishly. Thinking wasn't his strong suit.
"Every era has different rules. In this era, maybe you're right," Candice said.
They turned to see Ivan approaching with a gun. His old leg injury was still evident, but it didn't affect the speed of this instructor, who had followed Louis and Jack here.
Candice's eyes lit up. These two subordinates and her instructor were the best warriors. With them, William would be pleased.
"Alright, let's go save a comrade first!" Candice said.
"Mrs. Wright, who are we saving?" Jack joked, but his gun precisely shot a mutated wildcat.
"Your idol," Candice replied.
"What?" Jack was stunned.
Natalie's chest heaved violently, her outer clothing torn, revealing a pink bra. Next to the bra was a six-inch wound, slowly oozing blood. The contrast between her tan skin and the bright red blood was visually striking.
So, killing wasn't that hard after all.
Natalie wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, her eyes fixed on the people in front of her. At her feet were several corpses in gruesome states.
Victor clutched his left arm, the wound deep enough to see the bone. If he hadn't been an evolved being with top-notch reflexes, this bitch would have killed him with a whip!
"Today, you're not leaving!" Victor declared while he showed a fierce expression. He had to subdue Natalie today and get the information he wanted from her.
"I'll distract her. The rest of you shoot her legs. I need her alive, even if she's missing limbs!" Victor said.
The others exchanged glances, their killing intent rising. The deaths of their comrades made them realize Natalie couldn't be underestimated. Otherwise, they might die here!
"Natalie!" A voice called out, and several figures rushed over, quickly knocking these people to the ground.
As an evolver, Victor held on a bit longer. But when a beautiful woman approached, she knocked him out with one punch. Before losing consciousness, Victor realized he had encountered another evolved being.
