Chapter 345 Conditions for Obedience
Although somewhat taken aback, William stepped aside to allow her in.
During the final showdown in Accraville City, Michelle, this charming woman, showed off some serious leadership and combat skills.
Even without William, she had no trouble coordinating with the two big factions in Accraville. From the three-way meeting to nailing the Zero Commerce Guild, Michelle was the mastermind. In a post-apocalyptic world with no modern communication, that was no small feat.
If it weren't for William's accident, Michelle might have actually led the Mercy Vanguard warband and Star Beauty Company to take down all three Lords.
Plus, Michelle taking out Lord Ward on the spot was a huge shock to William. Lords were carefully nurtured by the Zero Commerce Guild with all sorts of resources. And Michelle? William had only given her a Swordsman Career Scroll and a three-star Evolution Elixir, and she still managed to decapitate Finnegan. William couldn't help but be impressed by her.
Sometimes William even wondered, if Michelle were a four-star Evolving person like him, could he beat her without using his gear, relying only on his skills?
"I was planning to give this to you when I left tomorrow, but you came just in time." William pulled out the notebook Chester had given him and handed it to Michelle.
Even if he wasn't around, this notebook in Michelle's hands could still be pretty useful.
Michelle took the notebook, didn't even look at it, and tossed it aside.
William raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything.
"Why didn't you say where you're going? Why didn't you say how long you'll be gone? Do you think I can't see that you're arranging everything as if it's a will?" Michelle suddenly burst out, her strong presence making William a bit embarrassed. "Do you think this is being responsible? That this is for our good? That you can leave with peace of mind like this?"
Michelle, usually irritable, wasn't afraid of William. Now, with so many doubts in her heart, she felt deceived and got even more aggressive. "Tell me the truth!"
William touched his nose helplessly and said, "I was going to tell you when I was ready to leave. I didn't think you'd be in such a hurry."
Facing Michelle's angry glare, William coughed twice and continued, "I ran into that Dragon, a level six one, so I had to open the Secret Realm."
William took out the Secret Realm Key from his space and showed it to Michelle.
At this moment, the key was glowing softly, but the occasional sudden burst of light made Michelle, seeing it for the first time, realize that this thing was not stable.
"What is this?" Michelle asked, glancing at the Realm Key in William's hand.
William replied, "This is a Secret Realm Key; Secret Realm was a space completely different from Earth. At that time, I wasn't a match for the Dragon, so I had to open it and send the Dragon in. Because I'm the holder, I had some prep time."
Michelle's expression kept changing. She wanted to touch the key but was afraid of triggering some reaction, so she pulled her hand back.
The two were silent for a while. Then Michelle suddenly stood up and walked out.
"Where are you going?" William also stood up and asked, puzzled.
"Gathering the team, we're going in with you!" Michelle didn't stop at all. As she spoke, she was already at the door.
Then, William quickly went towards her and grabbed her arm. "No need, I'll go alone!"
"Let go!" Michelle growled, her emotions suddenly flaring up. "You said it's super dangerous in there, so dangerous you don't even know if you'll make it out alive. You might even run into that level six Dragon as soon as you step in. So why can't we go together? We've been sticking together since the apocalypse started. Why not now?"
Michelle shook off William's hand. "Because it's super dangerous, right? You think it's a life-or-death situation, so you don't want us to follow you to our deaths, right?"
William stayed silent; the truth was pretty clear.
Michelle continued, "Should I be grateful? You've handed over the manor you built to me? It seems like I've taken advantage of you, huh?"
At this moment, William could only respond with a bitter smile.
"What are the odds you can come out alive?" After her intense outburst, Michelle slowly calmed down and suddenly asked William this question.
William thought for a moment. "Originally, only a ten percent chance, a life-or-death situation. But I asked Chester and gathered some info in Accraville City. I think I have a thirty percent chance of making it out."
Michelle visibly relaxed. A thirty percent chance might not be much, but it was better than certain death.
"You know, I've always had good luck, and my current strength isn't bad. I'll be super careful, so have some faith in me and help me take care of the manor." William smiled lightly to comfort Michelle. She was now an indispensable assistant to him, and it was crucial to have her lead Cloud Peak Manor with peace of mind.
Michelle bit her lip, her eyes getting a bit misty as she looked at William. "You leave, let me manage the manor, guard the house for you, and when you come back, everyone cheers for you, and you become a leader again. Is that it?"
William nodded.
Michelle continued, "And I continue to assist you, follow your orders, going from a decision-maker back to a subordinate. Is that it?"
William scratched his head. "Well, I'll repay you."
"Repay? How?" Michelle sneered, looking at William with a hint of mockery. "Wouldn't it be better for me to use the manor's resources to strengthen myself, to get what I want, rather than waiting like a beggar for your charity?"
"This isn't charity..." William murmured.
"To me, it is!" Michelle interrupted William unceremoniously, suddenly stepping forward, almost pressing against William's chest.
"I'll only work tirelessly for one person." Michelle's hand was on her collar.
"Huh? Who?" William's eyes flashed, his breathing slightly quickened.
"My husband." Michelle looked up, gazing into William's eyes, her delicate face blushing.
"I can guard the house, help you develop the manor, and wait for you to come back and take it all back. But you have to be my husband, or forget it!" Although Michelle's attitude had always been strong, even somewhat infringing on William's authority, at this moment, William's heart was full of warmth.
As for being her husband, this was just Michelle's excuse. She was merely masking her reluctance and anxiety about William leaving with her forceful and arrogant attitude.
Michelle slightly pulled open her collar and slowly lifted William's hand, placing it on top.
There was a shallow scar there, not yet fully healed.
"This was left for you." Michelle's voice was gentle. "You need to make it up to me, and I'll look after the manor until you get back."
