Chapter 308 Want to Leave? Fine, But Leave Your Stuff Behind
The Blood of Evolution popped up and vanished in a flash, totally different from the usual stuff that always had that tempting smell.
The first one just made mutated creatures hang around, but the second one drove them nuts.
For the smart, high-level mutated beings, no matter what humans did, they knew The Blood of Evolution came from the Poppy roulette wheel; they had every reason to lose it. But because they were smart and highly evolved, they were the top dogs of their species. So they could keep their cool, weigh the risks, and had other ways to evolve steadily.
They wanted The Blood of Evolution but were scared of dying. That was the mindset of kings like the Mouse King and Zombie King.
But the lower-level evolved beings was a different story. Their instincts ruled them. They couldn't resist The Blood of Evolution.
So when the Red-haired iron corpse held a drop of The Blood of Evolution, these mutated beings went berserk, and even their kings couldn't stop them.
'What the heck just happened?' Every Honor Legion member was confused.
The Honor Legion warriors, who were just chatting and occasionally glancing at the Poppy roulette wheel, suddenly felt a ton of pressure. Almost instantly, a few unprepared Evolving folks on the outskirts got killed. Their bodies were dragged away, torn apart in seconds, and became zombie snacks.
Patrick's seventh spin landed in the card zone, but no one cared anymore because staying alive was all that mattered.
They suddenly realized getting out seemed impossible.
"Fall back!" Connor made a quick call, ditching the roulette wheel and ordering a retreat.
At the same time, as a four-star Evolving person, he quickly noticed what these mutated beings were after.
It was that Red-haired iron corpse!
The Honor Legion had seen this red-haired woman before. After watching her for a while, they figured she was a new type of zombie. The Magic Crystal wasn't on her forehead but probably somewhere else; otherwise, she wouldn't be so chill among the zombie horde.
Just before they attacked, they saw the Red-haired iron corpse throw the zombie horde into chaos herself.
But why did she bring The Blood of Evolution here and attract all the mutated beings? Even if she was a level-four being, those level-two and level-three zombies could rip her apart under the lure of The Blood of Evolution.
The surrounding zombie horde got thicker. The Honor Legion tried to break through a few times but faced the fiercest attacks. Connor sized up the situation and led his team back under the roulette wheel.
He realized holding their ground was a bit better. The mutated beings attacked them only because they were in the way, slowing down their hunt for The Blood of Evolution. If they tried to break through, the mutated beings would be merciless. A counterattack when your life’s on the line was way more intense than just moving an obstacle.
"Connor, this isn't working. There are too many zombies; we can't hold out much longer!" Patrick was covered in gross blood, looking a mess, far from his earlier cool self. In just a minute, things had gotten really bad.
Connor's face was serious, his usual gentle smile gone. He realized he had been a bit careless and rushed today.
From knowing about the apocalypse ahead of time to quickly gaining strength after it started, he had now reached the point of attacking The Land of Death.
This made him unconsciously downplay the dangers outside The Land of Death; he thought they were a cakewalk compared to what was inside.
Take today, for instance. He made a snap decision after seeing someone else make a move and sizing up the situation. Connor had thought his plan was foolproof. But now, he realized he’d been too hasty.
He’d missed a lot of potential threats.
Connor closed his eyes. His rigorous training taught him that now wasn’t the time for self-reflection but for finding the quickest fix to the problem.
'Kill it!' Amidst his companions' screams, Connor found the answer!
If they could take out that Red-haired iron corpse, it would lose control over the surrounding zombies. The Blood of Evolution would be consumed instantly. Without it, the zombie horde would lose its purpose, making their escape way easier!
Pandora's Doomsday Crossbow started to turn, and within a few breaths, it was aimed at the Red-haired iron corpse, who was using its psychic power to keep the already frenzied zombie horde in check.
A flash of white light, and the bolt was already whistling through the air!
The Red-haired iron corpse's eyes were bloodshot, just like when it had first 'awakened.'
This was a side effect of using too much psychic power. Facing the crazed zombies, its level-four evolved strength wasn’t enough to fully control them. It had to use its psychic power along with its strength to keep the horde in line.
But things were getting bad. In just two or three minutes, the surrounding zombie horde had become uncontrollably violent. Maybe in the next second, they’d break through its psychic field and tear it apart.
And then, a bolt came to make things worse.
Suddenly, dense thorny vines sprouted from the Red-haired iron corpse's hands, forming a massive thorny cage around it. Then, its hair turned into a huge ball, enveloping it.
The giant crossbow bolt shot in almost the next second after the Red-haired iron corpse completed its defense.
The tough thorns were as fragile as paper before the bolt, shattering instantly. Next were the Red-haired iron corpse's hair strands.
The white bolt seemed to pause for a second before the hairball, its glow wavering slightly, giving a moment of hope; thenthat hope shattered, too.
The bolt pierced through the Red-haired iron corpse's right chest, its immense force carrying it several feet before stopping.
The Red-haired iron corpse's entire body was penetrated. If not for the thorns and hair's obstruction, the bolt would have hit its neck and decapitated it.
The Red-haired iron corpse's face turned deathly pale, and the energy fluctuations from its body became extremely weak.
Although the bolt didn’t kill it outright, it severely damaged its body. If it weren’t for its Human puppetry's resilience, a human’s organs would have been completely destroyed by this blow.
Connor's face relaxed a bit, and the other Honor Legion members also breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next second, their expressions changed.
They saw the pierced Red-haired iron corpse throw that drop of The Blood of Evolution directly into its mouth!
The perspective shifted. While the Honor Legion members and the Red-haired iron corpse were locked in a life-and-death struggle across the zombie horde, William also moved. He skillfully navigated the battlefield and stood in front of the Mouse King at the moment the bolt was fired.
