Chapter 281 Three Transfers in a Row!
A beam of light zapped into William's body. Without even bothering to figure out how to make the Thousand-Leaf Phosphorescent Armor, he jumped right into the next spin.
Powerful auras started popping up all over Accraville City. The Blood of Evolution had done its job, pulling all the mutated beings in the city towards him. Two of those auras were so intense they made William shiver; they had to be at least level five, maybe even higher.
Mutated beings were evolving way faster than humans.
Ignoring the materials section again, William eyed the roulette wheel, which was glowing like crazy, hoping for better luck this time.
The card section.
William frowned a bit. These cards were the only part of the wheel where you couldn't see what they did; you could only see the card backs. Landing here was a bit of a gamble.
But William wasn't one to pass up a chance. He picked a card with a silver pattern on the back and started feeding it Magic Crystals. The energy column shot up, eating up nearly three thousand level-one Magic Crystals.
After a moment's hesitation, William decided to keep going.
He could always make a safe retreat. With his speed, he could slip through the gaps in the encircling mutated beings before they even got close.
But giving up after just two spins was definitely not an option for him.
William started the third spin.
The worst case would be that he would need to fight his way out!
The Poppy roulette wheel lit up for the third time today.
'Three spins already! Who is this guy?' The people behind him were now only about a hundred feet away. If they hadn't seen the light from the torn scrolls on William, showing he'd learned what he spun, and the Earth Giant he summoned blocking him, they might've already attacked.
But three spins in a row seemed nuts, considering how many Magic Crystals it took. William had already used a ton at the trade fair earlier, yet he still had loads left, which meant he was not only rich but also had spatial equipment!
Spatial equipment, maybe even more valuable than a bottle of Evolution Elixir.
"Kill him!" someone whispered in the crowd, and many nodded.
Around the Zero Commerce Guild, things were slower. Quincy needed some time to recover from the Soultransmute state. As he led his people over, he controlled their speed to see William, who gave him a sense of danger, clash with the leaders of the Accraville City forces.
But just as William sensed many powerful auras closing in, Quincy also felt uneasy. They'd already run into many fast-moving mutated beings. Both the leaders of the Accraville City forces and the Zero Commerce Guild were under attack from these creatures, though the battles were still pretty easy for now.
But what about later? If they stayed, would they be killed?
The roulette wheel stopped at the bloodline section this time. William quickly chose a bottle of bloodline, burning through another seven thousand five hundred level-one Magic Crystals.
This time, William didn't hesitate. He turned and bolted in one direction. The human survivors behind him tried to attack him a few times but missed completely.
Actually, they didn't chase him either, as their attention was already glued to the roulette wheel.
When William looked back after running over a hundred feet, the roulette wheel was already flashing, and those people had eagerly started spinning it. William shook his head and focused on his escape route.
From the side, a group of level-two mutated beings was dashing over.
The Burning Fury Squad's camp was in chaos.
The walls were packed with people ready to fight at any moment. Basil stood there with a grim face, watching the zombies and monsters surging in one direction outside, silent for a long time.
Only Basil and Darryl could understand William's words.
Who was Nicholas? Darryl's uncle, who was still in the Burning Fury warband camp with Dunca. Meeting Nicholas meant meeting at the Burning Fury warband's base.
Basil had feared William's strength and later envied his wealth, thinking he had found a backer for the future.
Because Basil couldn't match William, he decided to obediently follow William's orders.
But now, William was at that giant roulette wheel, along with the big shots from Accraville City and the powerful Zero Commerce Guild. Spinning the wheel to snag those treasures—could William even make it out alive? Those temporary allies who helped him fend off the Zero Commerce Guild in the conference room had now turned into enemies. No matter how strong William was, could he handle all these foes?
The mutated beings in Accraville City had gone nuts for some reason. With Basil's strength taking a hit, could he keep the Burning Fury warband afloat through all this chaos?
All of this was making Basil pretty anxious.
"Captain Jenkins, look!" One of his guys on the wall pointed to a squad heading towards the Burning Fury warband's base. The squad consisted of fewer than a hundred people, but judging by their speed, they were all survivors, and many were holding gray-level weapons.
Which team had so many Evolving people that Basil didn't know about?
"The leader seems to be a woman?" the guy said, pointing in that direction.
Basil was taken aback. Could it be Sasha, who disappeared after leaving the conference room?
When the squad got closer and signaled Basil to open the gate, it turned out to be Sasha, the captain of Sasha's warband, ranked in the top twenty of Accraville City.
Basil hesitated for a moment but still had his men let Sasha's warband in. "Sasha, what brings you here..."
Basil climbed down from the wall and saw Sasha, covered in a bloody aura. Even in such a situation, Sasha's figure left even the most critical men speechless.
"Basil, sorry to intrude. I'm here to wait for someone," Sasha said.
Wait for someone?
Basil scratched his chin, catching a glimpse of Darryl walking over, and suddenly cottoned on. "Have you known Captain Wright before?"
Sasha and Darryl greeted each other. "We haven't known each other for long."
"Then why are you here?" Basil was puzzled about Sasha's relationship with William.
Sasha smiled, glancing at the sudden glow in the distance, and said, "Of course I'm here for Captain Wright. Basil, you may not know, but following Captain Wright can bring great benefits. Isn't that right, Darryl?"
Darryl laughed heartily, though he found Sasha's smile a bit unsettling.
As the three of them talked, a figure suddenly appeared on the eastern wall. It wasn't until he revealed himself that the guards noticed him.
It was Captain Wright.
Darryl was delighted and ran over with Basil and Sasha.
"Captain Wright, is there going to be a grand scheme?" Darryl was eager, feeling that William was born for grand scenes.
William smiled. He certainly intended to initiate a grand scheme, but due to the abruptness of the situation, his own squad was not by his side. He would need assistance.
But he couldn't just find any help. Besides Darryl, whom he still trusted, Basil and Sasha hadn't earned William's approval yet, especially Basil. From what he learned from Dunca and Nicholas, Basil had done many cruel and vile things, which left a bad impression on William.
"Let's rest for a bit, and then we'll discuss what to do," William suggested.
Darryl followed William back to Dunca and Nicholas's place. Basil had already moved them to a nicer room.
Once inside, the relaxed expression on William's face disappeared, replaced by utmost seriousness.
The appearance of the Poppy roulette wheel was an excellent opportunity to enhance his strength. William wouldn't be content with just three spins. A plan had slowly formed in his mind on his way back, but he needed some external help. And Darryl was a crucial part of it.
"What we're about to do would put ourselves in grave danger. Are you still willing to follow me?" William asked the former playboy.
"Yes, sir!" Darryl didn't hesitate, patting his chest in assurance. "At your service."
"Don't talk nonsense!" Dunca glared at Darryl disapprovingly. He and Nicholas had both become Evolving persons and knew that the William Darryl was following was a powerful three-star Evolving person, someone even Basil had to bow to. He feared Darryl might upset William.
Darryl smiled, rubbing his bald head. Ever since William said he didn't like the colorful hair, he had cut it off.
"Alright." William handed two items to Darryl. "Learn them."
Darryl looked down, stunned.
