Chapter 18 Tri-Color Roulette
The students and teachers who were just arguing with William suddenly fell silent.
"How could you do this? Our demands are very reasonable!" Lucy, whether out of anger or fear, glared at William during the debate. In her view, this was a fair exchange, just like the mathematical principles she taught.
She never expected that what she considered reasonable and normal would be mocked by this knife-wielding man.
"In this world, there is no fairness, only strength and weakness."
William clearly had no interest in wasting time here, so he coldly explained the laws of the apocalypse to these hopeful individuals.
These students and teachers lacked much courage. Otherwise, they wouldn't have just hidden in the classroom, afraid to fight their way out. Faced with the demon-like William and his gleaming blade, they dared not resist.
Only Lucy showed some courage. She was the one best at assessing the situation and taking appropriate action. She knew very well that without this man's help, the chances of escape for herself, her colleagues, and these students were very low.
She gritted her teeth, suppressing her inner fear as she defiantly faced William, clearly not willing to yield.
"You must save us!"
William looked at this female teacher who sought benefits for everyone. He suddenly smiled and lowered his blade, which relieved everyone momentarily. However, before they could fully relax, a pistol was pointed at a female student.
The female student shouted, "What are you doing!?"
William said, "Hey, you!"
This action made everyone extremely nervous, especially the female student, who trembled and dared not move.
"Tell me, or I'll kill everyone here one by one." William sneered, "Or, I'll feed you to the zombies."
William wasn't bluffing. The past decade of the apocalypse had hardened his heart like iron. Apart from those friends and lovers he valued in his previous life, he never showed mercy to other lives.
It wasn't just him. Everyone in the apocalypse was like this, and there were even many people colder than him. At least William still had people he trusted, while many survivors only believed in themselves.
His murderous intent completely shattered these people. The female student he aimed the gun at began to beg her teacher with tears, asking her to give the address to William. Others also persuaded her, completely abandoning their previous spirit of resistance. Now, Lucy seemed more like their enemy than William, holding the gun.
Lucy was disappointed. She never expected that when she confronted this killer, her colleagues and students would not help her but would give up future guarantees for a present threat. What a bunch of fools.
With his finger on the trigger, William's action under the light of the phone torch caused another commotion in the crowd. One female colleague suddenly blurted out an address and explained that Lucy had mentioned it during their conversation before. It should be that address.
Lucy closed her eyes in pain. She was desperate. She never thought that in order for them to escape, she was willing to risk being killed and argue with this man, yet they handed over their only bargaining chip.
Perhaps in their eyes, returning to the classroom to block the door and wait for rescue was better than being killed one by one now.
William lowered the gun. Since he got the answer, there was no need to kill. As for what would happen to these people, he didn't care. He turned and headed toward the approaching zombies, slashing his way through, not even bothering to collect the crystal, eager to reach the spot where the key to the enclave had fallen.
William descended from the fourth floor, and perhaps due to the presence of Second-Level zombies, there were clearly more bodies than mutated humans and few survivors.
By the time William had fought his way out of the teaching building, a large teaching building with only forty to fifty people had heard the commotion and followed him, including Lucy and her group.
Although William wouldn't go out of his way to save anyone, if these survivors were rescued because of him, he wouldn't mind. Among these people were even William's classmates, but the memories of the just-reborn William had already become blurred. He just informed his classmates that they could hide in the armory office building, where some survivors were.
Confirming the direction, William ran toward the area near the school's north playground and tennis court, where the key to the enclave should have fallen.
Watching his retreating figure, the students who had followed William out of the teaching building were discussing, with the focus naturally on the person who knew William.
"Ryan, do you know him?" the male teacher with glasses, who was with Lucy, asked William's classmate.
"Yeah, he's from our class, named William, good at studying." Ryan Collins nodded. "But he doesn't interact much with people, a bit aloof, probably because his parents died in a car accident early on. However, he has a very beautiful school flower girlfriend, Heidi, whom everyone should be familiar with."
Everyone then realized that he was Heidi's boyfriend.
However, at this moment, an acne-faced girl's voice broke in, not very harmoniously.
"Actually, it's his ex-boyfriend now. Heidi is with Xavier, the handsome and wealthy school idol."
The expressions on everyone's faces varied upon hearing this, with various thoughts running through their minds.
" There are zombies coming over there! Let's go!"
Some zombies attracted to the back of the teaching building by William, unable to find a target, circled back and headed toward the group of survivors, causing everyone to panic.
"Quick, let's go to the office building of the armory." With this voice, these people all ran toward the armory.
William's university had two outdoor stadiums with full-size tracks and grandstands for ten thousand people, one to the south of the campus and one to the north, known as the South Playground and North Playground, respectively.
The North Playground was at the end of the campus, across the street from the small community where William rented a place. Looking up from the playground, one could even see the windows of the bedroom.
Sometimes, fate would bring you back to where you started without you even realizing it.
Peering over the fence of the playground, William looked at the small house where he had left traces of his university life in the distance. Like many rooms in this city, it was pitch black.
Taking his gaze away, William scanned the playground with his keen eyes, but there was nothing there except wandering zombies.
‘Could it be in the tennis court?’ Thinking, William looked toward the adjacent tennis court, realizing that he had to go there to search.
Just as he was about to move, he suddenly stopped because he noticed a faint light flashing in the broadcast room below the main stand of the playground. It was very dim, and it was easy to miss if he was not paying attention.
William's heart skipped a beat, thinking, ‘Could it be that the key fell through the stand and landed there?’
Bending down, he decided to take a look.
Moving to the side of the stand, William quickly approached using the seats as cover, quietly killing a few zombies blocking the way. After that, William entered the broadcast room, where the sight before him surprised him and then filled him with joy.
Behind a cabinet in the broadcast room stood a brightly glowing Roulette, divided into three equal parts, each shining with a different color.
The Tri-Color Roulette!
