Chapter 236 One Step, One Kill

Gunshots echoed over Central Island, bouncing off the old homes the Lowe Family had cherished for generations.

Everyone in the hall stared at the twitching headless body on the ground, too stunned to react.

William, holding the gun, strolled forward like he hadn't just offed someone, and aimed it at the nearest guy, Alec.

The second shot rang out, and Alec, who was still trying to process his brother's brutal death, met the same fate. His head exploded, and he hit the ground, blood everywhere.

This time, the Lowe Family saw it all, clear as day.

A fierce shout rang out, "Kill him!"

One of the Lowe Family members jumped up, face twisted in rage, pointing at William, who had taken his third step.

The others snapped out of their shock and started firing back in fury.

A transparent energy shield wrapped around William, and bullets hitting it lit up with bright white flashes.

It was Armando's Guardian Energy Shield—William wasn't about to let it go to waste. Even if Armando were still kicking, that gear would've been wasted on him.

The Guardian Energy Shield, powered by a white ring, was top-notch for defense. In his past life, survivors used it to dodge bullets all the time.

It kicked in with the wearer's mental power. When attacked, it drained some mental juice based on how hard the hit was. But if the hit was too strong, the shield would break.

Earlier, when William went after Armando with the Flame Blade, Armando had fired up the Guardian Energy Shield, but it shattered after one hit because William's attack was too strong for the shield to handle.

Bullets, though, didn't pack that kind of punch. They just made the shield flash white, each bullet from an assault rifle draining about five points of William's mental power.

Armando didn't have the high mental power of William, who had consumed the Mind Parasite and had multiple professions. On Armando, with his low-level Giant bloodline, the shield would've made him a sitting duck, losing its edge in a real fight. But for William, who was quick and nimble with high mental power, breaking the shield would mean hitting a fast-moving target and draining his mental power, which was nearly impossible.

But William didn't even try to dodge. Today, he was set on wiping out the Lowe Family until they were scared stiff.

William fired the third shot. Travis, who had mocked Alec and secretly competed with him for the next bottle of two-star Evolution Elixir, tried to dodge but still got shot in the head, dying the same day as Alec.

"I'll kill you!" a fierce shout echoed.

Terrence, who had opened his eyes when his first son was killed, stood up when his second son was killed, and roared in rage when his third son was killed, had completely lost it.

He never imagined he'd see the day when he'd watch his three sons die right in front of him, utterly powerless as their father.

William was ruthless, yes. But this was the apocalypse. You played the game, you accepted the consequences. You owned your actions. Victory was earned, defeat was absolute. There were no complaints, no appeals.

If William didn't possess the strength to eliminate everyone on Central Island today, he'd be the one watching his crew get picked off one by one, his base overrun, and himself turned into someone else's plaything. Best case, he'd get a quick death; worst case, he'd be tortured to death.

That's just how it was.

Maybe William had a soft spot for his fellow humans 'cause he thought he'd need their help to crack the apocalypse's code.

But that didn't mean he'd let anyone walk all over him without paying the price!

That wasn't his style.

William could team up with others to take down the apocalypse, sure. But if they didn't see eye to eye with him or his crew, he wouldn't think twice about taking out anyone who got in his way.

The Lowe Family had poked the bear, and now they had to deal with the consequences. If they couldn't handle it, well, tough luck.

Nothing unfair about it. William had come alone, taking way bigger risks than the Lowe Family. One wrong move, and he'd be the one biting the dust.

Right then, a massive claw print, like hundreds of square feet big, appeared in the sky, coming down hard on William. The earth-colored claw shadow blocked out the sky above him, with a fierce whistling sound.

William's eyes narrowed, and he quickly swapped out the energy shield for a wooden staff—the Staff of Nature.

At the same time, he activated Bottle Protection!

A blue phantom of an elegant woman holding a bottle appeared around him. Bullets that hit her slowed down like they were moving through water, then dropped to the ground. The fancy bottle gently collided with the massive claw shadow.

A loud explosion rocked the hall.

The claw shadow vanished, and the blue phantom got super faint but still shielded William.

The fourth shot rang out, and the guy who first yelled "Kill him" got a bullet to the head.

Meanwhile, a dozen fierce gun shadows stabbed into the phantom.

For the first time, William looked surprised at the Lowe Family's ancestral skills.

These lances packed a punch, like a volley of gunfire. Guess the Lowe Family had some serious tricks up their sleeves.

As for the claw shadow Terrence used, it was a skill called Covering the Sun Claw, with some serious attack power. William hadn't expected to see it from a two-star Evolving person.

Bottle Protection finally shattered under the multiple attacks. The Lowe Family members, eyes red with rage, were ready to take out William, who had been dropping bodies with every step. But when they saw what was happening, they all froze.

Terrence had a gun pointed at his head.
