Chapter 92 Continuous Perils
Second-level mutant creatures had developed rudimentary intelligence, especially in hunting, where they exhibited innate cunning.
The forelimbs of the second-level mutant High-footed spider, among its eight V-shaped long legs, suddenly paused on the ceiling, producing a muffled sound.
William cursed as the noise immediately caused the zombies to turn around, discovering the fresh human nearby and lunging at him with bared teeth and claws.
Even though he was immune to the zombie virus, William didn't dare let these zombies bite him. He had to use both his sword and shield to kill them.
William's speed was impressive. In just a few seconds, he had taken down four or five zombies. His movements were swift.
But the mutated High-footed spider above would take advantage of such an opportunity. It seized the moment, its evolved four-lobed mouth suddenly opening wide, releasing a mass of white substance that covered an area large enough to envelop several shelves.
Spitting silk and venom were inherent abilities of the mutated High-footed spider, but this web-spitting was clearly a special skill.
"Spider silk sticky web!" William recalled the name of this special skill.
The large web descended from above, covering a vast area. Although there were shelves overhead, if William didn't move, the web would trap him between two shelves, making an escape impossible.
In a moment of crisis, William kicked over a shelf in front of him, causing a domino effect that toppled several shelves ahead until a support pillar stopped them.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, William swiftly darted forward. As he reached the edge, realizing he couldn't dodge it in time, he swung his sword with all his might.
"Light of Full Strength!" William shouted.
A silver light suddenly burst from the Edge of the Moon, slicing through the edge of the giant, sticky web. William quickly jumped through the opening.
Once it adhered to clothing or skin, this sticky web was difficult to escape from and was laced with neurotoxins that would rapidly weaken and numb the body. Even William couldn't afford to be careless.
Seeing the human evade its lethal move, the mutated High-footed spider let out a cry. Its body suddenly descended from a white silk thread that connected it to the ceiling, allowing it to lower itself like an elevator to the ground.
Its claws pierced through several wandering zombies nearby. The mutated High-footed spider's sharp forelimbs clinked together in front of its multiple eyes, producing a metallic sound, indicating their sharpness.
William decided not to flee anymore. He had been wary of the spider's special skill. Now that it had been used, it couldn't be used again for a while. It was his turn to attack.
With a slight drop of his left hand, his arm shield was in place. William's body blurred as he charged forward, throwing the arm shield directly at the mutated High-footed spider's multiple eyes with such force that it seemed to tear through the air.
The mutated High-footed spider didn't expect the human to attack so boldly, nor did it expect him to throw his shield. It was too late to dodge, so it crossed its forelimbs in front of its eyes.
The arm shield was deflected, crashing through the ceiling, creating a large hole.
The force of the impact pushed the mutated High-footed spider back a step. Just as it was about to lower its forelimbs to counterattack, it found the human was already in front of it, swinging the silver sword!
The spider had seen this sword cut through its web earlier, so it was very wary. Its six hind legs were bent and extended, propelling its body to the ceiling. A fingernail-sized eye on its pale yellow abdomen shot out a thread of silk, aiming straight at William.
William smiled. He had been waiting for this move. Suddenly, an iron box of breakfast biscuits appeared in his previously empty hand. The silk thread hit the box. As the thread retracted, the box was pulled away.
This all happened in an instant, leaving the spider stunned. It couldn't understand how William had suddenly produced an object.
William had placed the box of biscuits into his space crystal just before charging!
This moment of hesitation was almost fatal.
William's Edge of the Moon flew out just like his shield.
But unlike before, this time, William took advantage of the spider's mistake and its airborne position. The Edge of the Moon closed the distance between them, piercing the mutated High-footed spider's abdomen.
Even with the body of a second-level mutant creature, it couldn't withstand the Edge of the Moon. The spider's body was split open, spilling colorful innards and foul-smelling black liquid. The High-footed spider let out a shrill, piercing scream.
Due to its violent struggle, the spider, which had been pinned to the ceiling by the Edge of the Moon, fell to the ground. It wasn't dead yet. Driven by its strong will to live, it charged at the unarmed William.
This startled William. He hadn't expected the creature to be so tenacious.
But William knew these mutated creatures well. He knew the most effective way to kill them.
William had yet to rely on the Edge of the Moon's sharpness to engage in a direct fight with the spider because William knew it would consume too much energy.
Instead, he chose to throw the Edge of the Moon to attack its vital point directly.
Now, he was only surprised by the spider's ferocity, but he wasn't panicked. When he moved lightly between the shelves, the mutated High-footed spider, with its incomplete innards, finally exhausted its life force.
It let out a mournful cry and collapsed, no longer moving. The fierce light in its multiple eyes gradually faded, replaced by a lifeless gray.
William walked over, pulled out the Edge of the Moon, extracted the magic crystal, and cut off the spider's sharpest forelimbs and the valuable gland in its tail, tossing them into the space crystal. He then climbed up the shelves to retrieve his arm shield, which was still embedded in the ceiling.
But just as his hand touched the arm shield, a sharp sensation shot through his back. William's extensive experience in life-and-death situations saved him. He kicked off the shelf, toppling it and causing his body to fall, avoiding the next attack.
For now, the arm shield could wait. Survival was paramount.
Falling to the ground didn't affect him much. William didn't immediately stand up but rolled continuously.
This movement saved his life again. The spot where he had just rolled from was now filled with the sound of something striking and bouncing off.
Taking cover behind a shelf, William peeked through the gaps in the goods. He saw a graceful figure standing on a backlit shelf, her long hair flowing without wind, accentuating her perfect figure. At her feet, a black cat with golden eyes looked towards William's hiding spot.
William took a deep breath. He knew he hadn't encountered some beauty but a terrifying mutated duo!
