Chapter 192 Bottle Protection and Blue Blood Lotus
William yanked on Pill's fur, bringing the dog to a stop. Running was useless now; they had to face the attack head-on.
A level-four monster was approaching, likely the strongest they'd faced, posing William's greatest challenge since his rebirth.
He quickly pulled out an item, embedded a water crystal into it, and thrust it into the ground, shouting at the Ice Tornado, "Bring it on!"
Staff of Nature!
This rare gear from the Redwood County base had been useless without Natural crystals.
Back then, there were no Natural crystals, but now he had three ice-water crystals from the Crystal Range.
As a craftsman, he could embed them directly.
Once the light blue crystal was in the Staff of Nature, the gray wooden staff lit up, matching the crystal's color. A gentle, moist sensation surrounded William and Pill.
By now, the Ice Tornado was overhead, dropping the temperature to deadly levels. The tornado was filled with razor-sharp ice shards that could strip flesh from bones.
Among the ice shards were slender needles and thick spikes, hidden in the icy mist, ready to strike.
William, a two-star Evolving person, and Pill, a level-two mutated dog, had higher cold resistance than normal folks.
But soon, they were both covered in frost.
Mistakenly overlooking details was an expense William could not afford. As soon as the Ice Tornado enveloped him, he activated the Staff of Nature's skill.
A beautiful light blue female figure appeared in the sky. Even as a phantom, her beauty was stunning.
The phantom woman, ten meters tall, wore an exquisite gauze dress that seemed almost real.
She held a delicate blue vase in an elegant pose.
The vase had two handles at the top, with a flared mouth forming a wave shape. Both the mouth and body of the vase were smooth and lustrous.
This was William's gear, and upon activating the skill, he knew its name.
Bottle Protection!
The phantom woman enveloped William and Pill, facing the Ice Tornado head-on.
A deafening roar shook the ground. The phantom's color wavered under the clash of two powerful forces.
At this juncture, all that William could do was place his faith in the Bottle Protection's resilience against the Ice Tornado.
Two skills, one a powerful attack from a level-four monster using crystals, the other a defensive skill unleashing the full energy of Natural crystals through the Staff of Nature.
The battle between spear and shield raged fiercely above William.
Behind them, the Red Flame Armored Beast grew restless. It wanted to find its offspring, but crossing the Crystal Range was risky.
The Three-Tailed Demon Frog's attack, powered by Natural crystals, even scared the Red Flame Armored Beast. Desperate to save its young, it still had a strong survival instinct.
Confronted with the reality of being outmatched, the Red Flame Armored Beast contemplated seeking assistance.
But the towering phantom stopped it in its tracks.
The clash of forces sounded like a drum, pounding in the Red Flame Armored Beast's heart. It realized that the enemy of its enemy could be an ally right now.
So, it charged at the Three-Tailed Demon Frog, flames engulfing its body.
The Three-Tailed Demon Frog, weakened after unleashing the Ice Tornado, turned and roared a warning.
But the level-four Red Flame Armored Beast wasn't stupid. Seeing the frog's state, it not only wanted to save its offspring but also considered taking out the frog.
In the Land of Death, before humans appeared, equally powerful creatures were prime targets for evolution.
The Three-Tailed Demon Frog's chest heaved. It regretted using such a powerful skill, leaving it vulnerable to the fire-covered monster. But the Crystal Range was its territory, and it wouldn't give it up.
The two monsters clashed again in a deadly battle.
Meanwhile, the energy of Bottle Protection was depleting fast. The phantom woman was becoming blurry. William realized the Staff of Nature's skill wouldn't last long against a level-four monster's crystal-fueled attack.
He regretted not having a higher-quality water crystal. A mid-tier one would have made Bottle Protection strong enough to withstand the Ice Tornado.
Regretfully, William pulled out a darker-colored gem. Before Bottle Protection was completely destroyed, he replaced it with a low-tier ice crystal.
Bottle Protection vanished, replaced by a massive Ice Lotus.
If Bottle Protection was a gentle phantom, the Ice Lotus was a solid, fierce entity.
Blue Blood Lotus!
Though the Ice Tornado had weakened, its energy was still formidable. When it struck the Ice Lotus, it triggered a violent counterattack.
The lifelike petals, which no earthly craftsman could ever carve, detached from the flower, transforming into sharp ice blades that whistled towards the icy mist of the Ice Tornado.
The sound of collisions was nonstop.
Blood trickled from the corner of William's mouth, freezing almost instantly in the cold. Despite the aerial duel of abilities taking place above, the subsequent shockwaves and repercussions were endured by both he and Pill. Both were severely injured, especially William, who was already in bad shape from being chased by the Red Flame Armored Beast. Now, the residual energy waves were making him even weaker.
Two loud bangs came from different directions. William looked up to see the ice blades from the Ice Lotus had pierced the icy mist, shattering the powerful Ice Tornado!
Two crystals, using the Staff of Nature's abilities, had barely managed to fend off this near-fatal danger!
The other bang came from the two monsters fighting on Crystal Range. Their clash of water and fire resulted in an explosion, scattering at least a hundred crystal-clear fragments in all directions!
William's eyes gleamed.
He slapped Pill's body and roared, "Go!"
The Staff of Nature was instantly stored in the space crystal, and Pill, enduring the pain, leaped forward.
With the two sky skills 'perishing together', the scattered energy spread fiercely in all directions.
A wave of ice-blue energy surged like a tide, including the direction William was heading. Instead of fleeing, man and dog charged towards the energy, instantly enveloped by it.
William grasped his knife firmly with both hands, executing his formidable technique with a forceful forward strike. He also summoned an Earth Giant with almost all his remaining mental strength to shield him, but he still couldn't completely block the uncontrolled energy.
Cursing inwardly, he lamented using two of the three crystals he had obtained. The feeling of working hard for days only to gain so little made him greedy. Instead of fleeing, he chose to charge forward.
Unfortunately, he underestimated the power generated by the collision of the Ice Tornado and Blue Blood Lotus and paid a heavy price.
In a moment of extreme danger, he slapped Pill's rear, leaping into the air and delivering one final strike!
This was almost the strongest blow William had unleashed since becoming a Radiant Seal Blade Master. In this life-or-death moment, his potential was fully realized. The Flame Knife light slashed forward, colliding with the ice wave and producing a tremendous sound.
William was violently thrown back, yet the airwave before him was split open. Several blue shadows were swept towards him. Ignoring the impact, William grabbed them, instantly storing them in the space crystal. Finally, when he grabbed a larger crystal, he could no longer hold on and was struck in the chest, falling to the ground.
His consciousness blurred instantly.
Pill rushed forward, using its body to shield its master. The last bit of residual energy was entirely absorbed by the golden dog.
In his hazy state, William felt Pill biting his collar and running. Warm, sticky liquid kept dripping on his face and neck. He knew it was Pill's blood.
His eyes opened and closed intermittently, seeing only the faint red of The Land of Death twisting around him.
After an unknown amount of time, William felt himself being placed on something soft. Forcing his eyes open, he saw that Crystal Range, the Three-Tailed Demon Frog, and the Red Flame Armored Beast were nowhere in sight. Only a battered Pill was licking him.
Assessing his injuries, he had to admit he couldn't move for a while. He regretted his recklessness.
In the perilous Land of Death, such severe injury was almost a death sentence.
He sought a way out of the predicament but fatigue overcame him, prompting surrender. Finally, he could only weakly tell Pill, "Find help!"
Then, his vision went black, and he fell into unconsciousness.
In his last moment of consciousness, he thought, 'As long as I can survive, it's worthwhile.'
"There's nothing here, just a poor guy. What did he come to Red Egg for?" a voice scoffed coldly.
William felt his body being nudged, which brought him some awareness.
"And he's seriously injured. Do you think he's an Evolving person?" another voice asked, sounding concerned.
"Do you even need to ask? Of course, he is. His bones are so crushed, yet he's still alive. If he weren't an Evolving person, how could he survive this?" the first voice replied.
"Probably like us, came to Red Egg for an adventure, encountered some monster, and got beaten up like this. He might have had a team, but judging by the situation, the others are probably not doing well either," the second voice reasoned.
Two more people spoke, the latter with an older, steady voice, likely the team leader.
"So... should we save him?" a female voice asked tentatively.
William's consciousness improved significantly with these words, and he faintly heard a voice suggesting saving him, which brought him a glimmer of hope.
But the first man quickly dismissed the possibility of saving William.
"How can we save him? He's so badly injured he might die any second. Don't waste the potion, okay? We have important things to do! We haven't found all the ingredients for the formula yet, and we don't know how long we'll be in Red Egg. If we waste the precious Recovery potion now, what will we do when we get hurt? Camilla, don't forget, even though you made these potions, the ingredients were gathered by all of us!"
"Yeah, Camilla, Luke is right. We're here to find the ingredients for the formula, mainly for you. If your profession reaches the max level, you might advance. We can't waste time and resources on an unrelated person. The world has changed; it no longer needs good hearts. Take my advice, save your compassion. You're not God; you can't save everyone," another male voice reminded.
"Alright," the weak female voice replied.
Hearing their conversation, William deliberately made his chest heave dramatically, then slowly opened his eyes.
