Chapter 323 Flames of War Erupt
"Man, there's a lot of noise over there," Chester said, raising an eyebrow.
Quincy glanced back at his crew. Finnegan and Chloe both gave him a nod.
Everyone knew it was go-time. Today, only one side was walking away; the losers were done for.
The three Lords knew their buddy Brody, who was tight with Quincy, was MIA. He must've been ambushed too.
This meant the Zero Commerce Guild's plan was totally blown, and they were on the ropes. If they didn't pull off something epic in this fight, they could lose four Lords today, which would be a massive hit and might even spell their end.
All that swagger from a minute ago? Gone. The Lords realized that ever since William showed up, things had been a mess, one disaster after another.
"Alright, let's do this," Quincy said, taking a deep breath. His hands started to get covered in these thick bone scales. They began spinning like crazy, making his hands look like some kind of deadly gears.
With things looking this grim, Quincy went straight for his meat grinder move. The Wolf Spirit around him got even more intense, and the misty form silently roared at the enemy in front of him.
Chester's eyes lit up. "You're not using Soultransmute?"
"You wish!" Quincy yelled, stepping forward. The ground cracked under his foot, and black gas started seeping out towards Chester.
Quincy's move kicked off a brutal fight between William's crew and the Zero Commerce Guild!
Honestly, no one expected this battle, or even the war between these two groups, would drag on for long.
Chester, now shirtless, had turned a shiny bronze. With Copper Fist and The Gilded Form, he went all out right from the start.
His fists moved so fast they created a barrier of shadows. Just the speed of his punches showed how much he'd improved and how hard he'd been working.
Some things you just can't shortcut with potions or scrolls; you gotta put in the physical effort.
"Perfect!" Quincy shouted. The Wolf Spirit charged forward, teaming up with the black mist on the ground to attack.
The silent clash echoed through the air. After a couple of grunts, Quincy and Chester both stepped back, eyeing each other warily.
Quincy could tell Chester had gotten way stronger since their last fight. Last time, this move had split Chester's chest open, but now it just scattered his fist shadows and broke his skill, while Quincy's move didn't fully work either.
"Use Soultransmute, or you're not winning today," Chester said.
"Don't get cocky, loser!" Quincy charged again.
"Hey, cold-face, let's get this started too," Michelle grinned. Before Finnegan could even respond, she swung a blade at him.
"Cheap shot!" Finnegan wasn't hurt, but getting cut off like that ticked him off. She looked all sweet and pretty, but who knew she was so sneaky?
Finnegan took a deep breath, and the ground around him started to shift.
Whether it was dirt or bricks, they turned into a thick brown liquid, spreading from his feet and soon covering his whole body, except for his eyes and nostrils.
"Mother of the Earth!" Finnegan's voice was muffled as he pointed at Michelle. "You're gonna be buried!"
Michelle laughed, "We will see." She didn't stop, her Edge of the Moon slicing diagonally towards Finnegan's knee.
Instead of going for a kill shot, she aimed for the joints. Michelle always had a different approach.
"Amateur move." The spot Finnegan was hit suddenly thickened. Edge of the Moon cut in easily but got stuck like it was in glue.
Michelle was caught off guard and jumped back. One of Finnegan's hands shot out, and the gooey stuff on his hand extended, forming a sharp Mud Thorn that flew straight at her face.
As she pulled back Edge of the Moon, Michelle tapped the ground and sidestepped. The Mud Thorn grazed her cheek, leaving a trail of blood.
The usually playful Michelle turned ice-cold.
"You messed up my face!" she snapped. A sudden flash of light appeared where she held Edge of the Moon.
If William were here, he'd recognize it as the signature glow of the Swordsman profession.
When Darryl brought back the Blood of Evolution to Cloud Peak Manor, he also brought William's other gains. Cloud Peak Manor had leveled up big time.
Michelle not only got a three-star Evolution Elixir but also a Swordsman Career Scroll.
She'd already had top-tier sword training, and now with the Swordsman profession, she was a beast with Edge of the Moon!
A woman with a scarred face was a force to be reckoned with, and Michelle proved it. She waved her hand, and Jack tossed her another weapon. Now dual-wielding, she charged at Finnegan.
Cloud Peak Manor had changed a lot since William left.
The massive stone gate at the entrance was back up, but it was fixed in place, becoming the actual gate of the manor.
The walls on both sides were taking shape. For defense, the first layer of the outer wall, 16 feet high and several dozen feet long, was built with a width of 7 feet. Since the second layer would be built against it, there were no complicated structures, just large metal plates placed at intervals as William had instructed. No one knew what the metal plates were for.
Right now, over a hundred people were busy on one side of the wall. To protect the whole manor, this bit of wall wasn't enough. They needed at least two more months to finish the first layer.
"Candice!" Brian's voice snapped Candice out of her thoughts at the main gate. She looked down, her face determined.
"They're here!" Candice nodded, glancing towards Accraville City. She knew William and his crew were fighting powerful forces there, but she stayed behind. Not because she was scared, but because this was William's base, and she had to protect it.
Candice jumped from the 16-foot-high wall, landing gracefully. Behind her, Brian, Clarissa, Edna, and even Camilla appeared, along with over a hundred Evolving person subordinates left at Cloud Peak Manor.
The more than a hundred regular folks who had been working moments ago put down their tools, grabbed their weapons, and gathered at the gate.
These were all the fighting forces Cloud Peak Manor had, every single member!
Not far down the road, a burly man appeared, gnawing on a beast's leg as he walked. Behind him was a group of mean-looking prisoners.
