Chapter 318 Special Appearance
Accraville City seemed to have chilled out a bit, even the bloody smell in the air had mostly faded.
But nobody was dumb enough to think everything was cool now. The recent fights had left a bunch of power vacuums that needed filling by survivors or mutated creatures. This process of filling gaps, in fact, was far more gruesome than the past battles at the Poppy roulette wheel.
Blood would keep flowing as long as the apocalypse was around.
William had a bag with some daily stuff, while the important items were stashed in two separate spaces. He walked alone through the streets of Accraville City, feeling a weird sense of déjà vu.
He remembered back in the day, he’d often leave the camp alone, not going too far, just practicing his shooting near the base and taking out some low-level mutants to make up for the bullets he used.
But before he got the hang of shooting, it was always a loss.
Those tough days still gave William the chills when he thought about them; he was so broke. But after being reborn, he found himself kinda nostalgic.
Now, his life was a thousand times better than before, but he still didn’t feel invincible. It reminded him of a line he once read in web novels during peaceful times: Not everyone who was reborn was given a life of privilege.
William never thought being reborn meant he could look down on everyone. He still kept his head clear and stayed humble in everything he did.
He’d never underestimate any life, nor would he ignore any enemy.
Just like today, even though the road ahead was full of danger, he kept moving forward.
Lifting his head, William sniffed the air; the scent of killing intent was already spreading.
"The visibility is great, today’s a good day to take off." Sitting in the cabin, Sam Hwang wore a flight helmet but had a cigarette dangling from his mouth.
Fortunately, those cursed takeoff regulations were no longer in effect, nor were there haughty flight inspectors in the manager's office. Otherwise, his corpse would likely have already decomposed into the soil.
"Sam, remember, the drug’s effect only lasts for three minutes. That means you gotta drop this thing within three minutes of takeoff, with an error margin of no more than 98 feet. Otherwise, it might miss the target this time. Got it?" A guy in a white lab coat and thick glasses came to the cabin and said to Sam, who looked totally unfazed.
"Got it. Didn’t your nearsightedness get better after you evolved? Why are you still wearing those things? They look awful. Do you know what the girls say about you? They say you must be a perv in bed!" Sam spat out the half-burnt cigarette butt, hitting the abandoned control tower dead-on, scattering sparks.
The young guy adjusted his glasses and kept going, "Besides, you gotta record the whole battle yourself. Drones won't cut it; you need to do it. This is super valuable data. Your payment depends on it, and it'll be a big bargaining chip for our future deals with other groups. Don't screw it up. If you run into flying mutants, just get the job done!"
Cody Collins adjusted his thick black-framed glasses again, a sharp glint in his eyes.
Sam was taken aback for a second, then burst into wild laughter. He lowered the transparent visor, closed the cabin, and shouted inside, "Cody, now that's what a man says! When I get back, I'll help you lose your virginity!"
Before he finished talking, the small plane shot into the sky. The sturdy rope affixed beneath the fuselage ascended steadily, and the massive metal cage at the rope's end shimmered under the radiant sunlight.
Inside, a brown beast lay crouched, its original appearance hidden by its needle-like fur.
The wind roared, and the fighting spirit surged among the six hundred warriors.
Quincy, Finnegan, and Chloe, the three Lords, were all there. Everyone knew how much Zero Commerce Guild valued this operation.
Having just set up nine divisions, summoning three Lords was a big deal. Such a thing had never happened before in Zero Commerce Guild.
"Maybe the warriors of Lord Ward and Lord Flores don't know what's going on, but it doesn't matter. You don't need to know." Quincy stepped forward, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the warriors in black clothes and pants.
"You just need to know that today we're up against someone who poses a serious threat to us and knows our top secrets. What we need to do is kill him, stab your weapons into his belly, and shred his guts, just like we do with any other enemy!" Quincy's voice echoed around, and the fighting spirit grew even stronger.
Quincy continued, "Actually, before that, I'll let you watch a good show. After that, it'll be time for us to crush everything in front of us! Remember, Zero Commerce Guild is the hope of humanity! False mercy only speeds up human extinction. One day, we'll prove to the whole world, even the entire universe, that we're right!"
"Zero Commerce Guild! Zero Commerce Guild! Zero Commerce Guild!" The six hundred warriors shouted in unison, their voices reaching the sky, the atmosphere reaching its peak.
"Move out!" A voice gradually faded in the air.
Each Lord led two hundred elite warriors, who immediately and silently rushed towards their destination.
William heard some strange noises. At first, they were faint, but after a moment, they became clear.
He looked up and saw a black dot rapidly approaching in the distant sky. With his sharp eyesight, William identified it as a small plane instantly.
He touched his chin and smiled.
"This is quite a unique entrance," William muttered, then closed his eyes slightly to feel, and opened them again.
In that brief moment, his entire aura changed.
The plane was also getting closer!
