Chapter 174 Mechanic

Heavy Armored Skull!

Even though William was tied up in front of Devil's Gamble, he kept an eye on the battlefield. Seeing the skeleton in black metal armor with a giant sword, he could only shake his head.

He felt pretty helpless and had to count on his teammates to handle it.

But he trusted Cecil completely.

Heavy Armored Skull was an undead creature. They didn't have Magic Crystals but had levels, shown by their bone color.

The weakest had gray bones, like regular zombies. Stronger ones had white bones, then black, blue, purple, red, yellow, silver, and gold.

This one had black bones under its thick armor, making it as strong as a level-three mutated creature.

Flame Lion, Lizard-Like Insectoid Beings, Naga Warrior, Heavy Armored Skull; four level-three creatures, plus a level-two Mantis Insectoid Beings, made the team sweat. They'd never seen so many high-level creatures.

Michelle, Candice, and Jack were especially uneasy. They'd seen the terror of a level-three Corpse Ape by the lake, and now there were four of them. Even the calmest of them knew things were bad.

William suddenly shouted, "Guns! Insectoid Beings!"

He also gave a mental command. The red-haired Iron Corpse and Pill charged out. One lunged at the Flame Lion's neck, while Pill's fur shot out, targeting all the monsters except the Lizard-Like Insectoid Beings.

The team followed William's orders. They raised their guns and aimed at the injured Insectoid Beings.

Candice, Jack, and Michelle, were all cops, worked together. They fired, and bullets flew towards the Insectoid Beings.

Looking closely, some bullets weren't aimed directly at it but around it. Only two aimed at its head and legs.

They didn't know how fast a level-three creature could react, but they didn't take chances. They gave it their all.

During the battle at Hope Base, they scored a lot of supplies. After several spins of the roulette, they also got some ammo. So, William made a batch of armor-piercing rounds for the team. Knowing they'd face tougher monsters, he focused on quality over quantity. The rounds were few but packed a punch.

In this tight situation, the three didn't worry about wasting ammo. They knew focusing shot on one target was best. So, they kept pulling the triggers, firing over ten armor-piercing rounds.

The Insectoid Beings reacted fast.

Sensing danger, its shell opened, revealing its blade-like form. It crouched and leaped to the side.

Thanks to evolution, the Lizard-Like Insectoid Beings had an incredible jump, clearing over thirty-two feet in one leap.

But since it was charging at the team, it was too close, and the bullets were faster. The team's aim was spot on, so even though it tried to dodge, it ran into the bullets aimed around it.

The armor-piercing rounds tore through its body, creating bloody holes.

One bullet even blew through its thick neck, leaving only half the flesh.

The already injured Insectoid Beings lost control mid-air and crashed to the ground.

Golden sharp fur and three armor-piercing rounds followed, piercing its twitching head. Green and white brain matter exploded out, killing the level-three Insectoid Beings instantly.

This win lifted everyone's spirits.

They were a bit surprised to take down a level-three Insectoid Beings so quickly, but it made sense.

First, William's skills had already injured it. Even if it was not fatal, it caused serious damage. Hitting it hard from the start left the Insectoid Beings and the previously killed Hundred-Handed Zombie unprepared.

Second, the power of the Honorable Artisan profession showed again. The armor-piercing rounds, made through his Homogeneous Strengthening and Enchantment, were incredibly powerful.

These rounds, crafted from level-two and even level-three materials, fired from modified guns, generated enough kinetic energy to threaten level-four creatures. So, level-three creatures didn't stand a chance.

With such close-range attacks and top-notch marksmanship, it made sense they could take down a level-three creature without holding back on ammo.

This highlighted William's value.

Any other team, even with a two-star Evolving person, couldn't have killed a level-three creature with so many helpers so quickly.

After the successful hit, Pill quickly retreated. The red-haired Iron Corpse had just attacked the Flame Lion. With the Stone Giant's help, they pushed the level-three monster back two steps before retreating behind Cecil.

But the Flame Lion was tough. In that brief moment, it bit off one of the Stone Giant's hands. Even though the Iron Corpse struck it, the monster only stepped back two steps, while the Iron Corpse's hand got scorched, turning its grayish-white skin black.

On the other side, the Metal Osmium Person faced off against the Naga Female Warrior. After a few exchanges, the Metal Osmium Person's weaknesses as a summoned creature showed. It couldn't match the Naga Warrior's speed or defend against her skills. Her iron trident left holes all over its body, quickly cutting its durability in half.

Still, its resilience and toughness kept the Naga Warrior from threatening the team for now.

The Earth Giant was initially tangled with the level-two Mantis Man, but then the Heavy Armored Skull joined in. The Heavy Armored Skull slashed the Earth Giant with its giant sword.

After the team killed the Lizard-Like Insectoid Beings, the Earth Giant, caught in a pincer attack, exhausted its durability and crumbled into dirt.

After these brief clashes, both sides lost one combatant.

"Damn, only two armor-piercing rounds left," Jack cursed, counting the bullets with a grim face.

Candice and Michelle also looked serious; they were running low on armor-piercing rounds too.

"Take down the level-two creature first!" Michelle ordered.

She quickly assessed the situation and decided to target the weakest one. Since they couldn't guarantee killing another level-three creature with the remaining rounds, it was better to eliminate the level-two Insectoid Beings that still posed a threat.

Following orders, the three turned their guns. After blocking the level-two Insectoid Beings' escape route, they instantly killed it.

The armor-piercing rounds were all used up.

Just then, the third slot on William's side stopped. His face lit up with joy; he seemed to have good luck today as the Screeching Cage appeared again.

Now, only the second white slot hadn't landed on a reward icon!

Without hesitation, William inserted a level-three Magic Crystal for the second Fixed Roulette and spun again.

Cursed Black Camel! Level-two!

Horrors! Level-two!

Blood Zombie! Level-three!

Fog Sunflower! Level-three!

Four spins, all monsters, even making Natalie frustrated. "William, do you want us to die?" she shouted.

Of course, William didn't want that, but his luck was just that bad.

His face was darker than anyone else's. He had spun the second white slot seven times in a row without hitting the mark, making him doubt his luck.

In a bind, he decided to go all out, thinking, 'Let's see how many more monsters you can give me!'

After a pleasant chime, the second slot finally didn't disappoint, stopping on the Screeching Cage icon.

The reward box beside it glowed, revealing a small black cage inside.

William almost snatched it up and used it immediately.

"Obtained: Battle Pet, Mechanic! (Fragile level)"

A message appeared in his mind, followed by a small robot, only reaching William's knee, appearing at his feet.

The roulette did produce some futuristic tech products, though they were rare. The most famous among them was the Golden Light battleship on the level-nine roulette, the same type of giant golden space battleship that attacked Earth on the day the apocalypse began.

In his previous life, few around William had such advanced technology far beyond Earth's level.

But it couldn't be denied that these items, despite their rarity, were immensely powerful and valuable.

Seeing the Screeching Cage, William had fantasized about what might appear. He had imagined many rare and even legendary creatures.

But he hadn't expected the Battle Pet to be a tech product.

As William looked at the robot at his feet, which resembled a destroyer droid from Star Wars, his mind was being filled with information about it.

The team was in extreme danger. Although they had taken down a level-three and a level-two creature, two more level-twos and two level-threes had appeared, launching their attacks.

Now that the Battle Pet had appeared, William urgently needed it to help him!

He mentally commanded the Mechanic to take action, but then he heard a prompt that made him want to faint.

"Please insert startup energy!" the prompt said.
