Chapter 329 Don't Underestimate Me
In his past life, William had dodged death so many times.
But today was a whole new level of crazy.
He was up against a dragon, alone!
Back then, mythical creatures would show up now and then. They weren't exactly like the legends, but people liked to think they were. It made them feel like Earth was still the same, just with some old-school monsters making a comeback.
Take Yangos, for example. This dragon didn't look exactly like the ones from the stories, but close enough. These giant lizards liked to call themselves dragons, probably to feel more important.
Before he got reborn, William had faced level-six creatures and even helped take down level-eight ones.
But he was always a long-range guy, picking off the weak ones on the edges, keeping an eye on the main fight. He never got to be in the thick of it.
He'd never gone one-on-one with a level-six or higher creature, let alone a nearly unbeatable dragon.
But today, he had no choice. Running wasn't an option.
Speed-wise, William couldn't outrun Yangos, who could fly.
Yangos hovered about 160 feet in front of him, looking at him like he was a joke. Its huge yellow-brown eyes had flames burning deep inside.
Yangos would never forget the day it got scared off!
It had been scolded, threatened, and lectured by William, and then humiliated by the Twin-Winged Golden-Eyed Python above his head. It had fled in front of all the mutated creatures in Accraville City.
Yangos could only imagine how those once-submissive creatures saw it now, especially after finding out that the Battle Pet was a total fake!
For a proud dragon, that was the ultimate humiliation!
The only way to erase that shame was with William's blood!
"Beg for mercy, and I'll give you an honorable death!" Yangos's voice boomed in William's mind.
William smirked. Dragons were such hypocrites.
For someone with weaker mental strength, that mental blast alone would be enough to drive them insane or turn them into a vegetable.
It was already planning to kill him, but it acted like it was doing him a favor. William couldn't stand creatures like that.
But he spread his hands, a smile on his face. "Oh mighty dragon, how about I offer you some precious items in exchange for my life?"
Yangos was stunned. No one had ever tried to bargain with it for their life before. The small town it had wiped out a few days ago had countless deaths, but no one had done this.
"Like, Magic Crystals!" William pulled out several Magic Crystals, sparkling in the sunlight. Rumor had it that dragons liked shiny things, though he wasn't sure if it was true.
Yangos let out a thunderous roar at William, clearly pissed off by the sight of something it also had on its forehead.
"Alright, alright, don't get mad." William quickly put away the Magic Crystals and pulled out a fiery red one.
This was a fire-element Natural Crystal he had snagged at the Accraville City trade fair.
"How about this?" William said. "Its attributes match yours. Absorbing its energy will make you stronger."
Yangos' eyes locked onto the crystal.
As a fire-element dragon, it knew the value of Natural Crystals. It had crossed the Chaos Barrier to this world, gaining tons of food but losing the chance to find Natural Crystals. Even though this one was low-grade and average quality, the energy inside was rich.
"Do you like it?" William grinned. "Alright, I'll keep it for you. How about this?"
He pulled out a piece of Devil's Gold, causing Yangos, who was about to demand the Natural Crystal, to pause and then look ecstatic.
Yangos didn't recognize the material, but it could sense the alluring aura coming from the metal.
This thing was super useful!
Yangos was so excited that its body floated upward, its massive forelimb pointing, signaling William to toss it over.
"Don't rush, I have more. How about this?" William took out another crystal, but this one was the opposite of the fire-element crystal.
It was a water-element crystal, one of William's last remaining stocks.
"This might not be useful to you, so I'll keep it." As he finished speaking, the smile on William's face vanished because Yangos was already charging.
"Did you think I wouldn't know you were stalling for time?! Foolish human, once you're dead, all these things will be mine!" The dragon's mental message boomed in his head. The dragon's shadow loomed over William, its stench overwhelming. With its movement, William could even see the smallest dark patterns on the massive dragon scales.
The roaring in his mind made William's head buzz, blood seeping from his nose, ears, mouth, and even eyes.
The dragon was too powerful, especially a level-six dragon, which was two levels higher than William!
Everything seemed to point to William getting killed today, his reborn life ending once again.
But William stayed calm, without a hint of despair. What he had was an endless fighting spirit and determination.
'So what if you saw through it? At worst, we'll fight!' William roared in his heart, planting the Staff of Nature in front of him. The water-element crystal was embedded in it, and the pale blue shadow of Bottle Protection shielded William. The beautiful woman holding the bottle, though frail before the dragon, stood resolutely against Yangos.
Two flames appeared in Yangos' paws, and the dragon smashed them onto Bottle Protection.
In the distance, a tearing roar echoed. Pill had finally decided to disobey William's orders and come to fight alongside him!
"Get lost! I don't need you here!" William shouted, his body undergoing drastic changes. Mysterious and elegant black patterns appeared on his face, his blood-red eyes replaced by deep black.
Hell Messenger bloodline, activated!
