Chapter 103 The Godmother

Maria Hotel.

After Missouri was flooded, Maria's mother had no place to stay and moved into Maria's small hotel.

She was illiterate and didn't know the prices of the rooms. She would simply let people stay as long as they paid. Customers could pay as much as hundreds of dollars or as little as five or ten dollars, which would both do. In this way, business boomed in her hand.

"Mom, I'm back!" Maria got out of the car and rushed into the room.

She was too excited to see Samantha and said in tears, "Mom, how have you been? Thanks for taking care of the hotel."

"Not at all. Life here is much better than that in the countryside. I don't have to do the farm work, but money still keeps coming in every day." Samantha opened the drawer. "Sweetie, see how much money I've made for you."

The drawer was full of banknotes, ranging from one-hundred dollar bills to ten or five-dollar bills. It was up to at least thousands of dollars in total.

Looking at those banknotes, Maria couldn't help crying.

She had never received any banknotes like five-dollar or ten-dollar bills since she opened the hotel. She thought Samantha had been fooled by the customers.

"Why are you crying, sweetie? Well, some paid little, but some paid a lot. Some customers just came to take a nap, but they gave me one hundred and fifty dollars. Oh my god! I never know it was so easy to make money in the city. I used to work hard to raise pigs in the village, which gave me pain in the back, and I couldn't see any money coming in until months later! After cutting out the feeding cost, I couldn't make as much as you do within one day!" said Samantha.

Maria burst into laughter. "Mom, you are good at math. You'll run the hotel from now on. You're the boss, and I'm the employee."

"Deal! I promise I'll make a killing of it!" Samantha said, patting her chest.

Ivy covered her forehead and went into the hotel slowly with six little girls.

Samantha found Ivy's face stained with blood and asked in a panic, "What's wrong? How did you get so seriously injured?"

"I bumped my head by accident. No big deal. Don't worry, Samantha." said Ivy, trying to squeeze a smile.

"Hey, Ivy! Would you like to be my mother's goddaughter?" Maria begged Samantha and said, "Mom, would you like to be Ivy's godmother?"

Samantha was a little flattered, "What? I'm a country woman. How can I be the godmother of a city girl? Will her parents agree?"

"I'm an orphan," said Ivy sadly.

"Ivy grew up in an orphanage, Mom. Ivy has no family. Let's be her family." said Maria.

"Okay!" Samantha was instantly filled with maternal love, "Ivy, it's my honor to be your godmother. From now on, we're family, and I'll love the girls as my own grandchildren."

Ivy was so moved that she immediately said to the children, "Girls, come say hi to Samantha."

"Hi, Samantha!" The six little girls shouted in one voice, sounding nice and sweet.

"Oh, hi!" Samantha patted her thigh and said with embarrassment, "Sorry, my lovely angels. I forgot to get you gifts. Wait a minute. Let me go get some now."

"It's very kind of you, Samantha. We're happy as long as we're together like a family," said Ivy. Samantha burst into tears when hearing that.

"It's wonderful. I'm getting old, but I just have a goddaughter, who has brought me six little angels!"

Seeing Ivy still covering her forehead with her hand, Samantha hurriedly said, "Maria, help Ivy clean her wound. I'll take care of the children."

"Okay! I'll go get the gauze." Maria went over to her room.

Samantha picked six small gifts and said, "Come on, children. See what I've got for you. One for each. Hope you like them."

"Thank you, Samantha!"

"Thank you, Samantha..."

The six little girls thanked Samantha one after another and started to open the gifts.

"Oh, it's a doll." Molly was the first to get her gift.

"I've got a little plane!" Hana followed right afterwards.

"Mine is a train!" said Alice.

"Let me see! Wow! I got a kite!" said Rowling.

"I got a comic book!" said Susan.

"See? Mine is a toy car," said Mollien.

"My goddaughter will get a gift, too!" Samantha took out a nice bracelet and gave it to Ivy.

"Oh, Samantha, I can't take it. It's too expensive..."

"Yes, you can. I hope you like it." Samantha insisted on giving the bracelet to Ivy.
