Chapter 242 An Act of Charity

"Of course, that's a given. But now that I'm injured, you know how they say it takes a hundred days to recover from a bone injury..." James rambled on.

"Enough with the idle talk. I'll heal your injury, and you'll promptly pay the employees their wages!" Alexander's voice turned cold and resolute.

James sneered. "What are you talking about? You'll heal me? My bone is already broken, crushed by a rock. It's a fracture, not a dislocation. Are you a doctor? How can you treat it..."

Before James could finish his words, Alexander placed his hand on James' injured leg and used the energy of the Magic Pearl to heal the leg injury. Then he said, "It's restored to normal now. You can pay the wages!"

James couldn't believe it as he tested his leg, discovering that he could run and jump without any issues. He was filled with a mixture of excitement and bewilderment.

He should have thanked Alexander, but the thought of having to pay the wages immediately made his face turn bitter.

"My business has been completely destroyed. How can I possibly afford to pay the wages? Sir, you are truly a generous benefactor. As the saying goes, one should strive to carry out good deeds until the end.

"My factory has suffered a severe disaster, and I can't pay the wages anymore. It's almost 1,200 dollars for one person, so for five people, it's 6,000 dollars. My factory had just started and faced such an unfortunate event. Truly, my heart is willing, but my capabilities are insufficient.

"You look like a wealthy person. How about supporting me with 7,000 dollars, so I can pay the workers' wages? The extra 1,000 dollars can be given to me since I am also in a difficult situation..."

Silence fell upon everyone.

Alexander's face turned cold, his eyes emitting a chilling aura as he stared at James. "Have I been too merciful to you?"

"Can't you see it as an act of charity?" James, his body drenched in cold sweat under the weight of Alexander's intense gaze, still clung to a glimmer of hope, believing that maybe Alexander would extend his support.

After all, for someone who could fly a helicopter, what was a mere 7,000 dollars?

To Alexander, this small amount of money was indeed insignificant, especially considering that the Ashford family's minimum contribution to for charity was 700 thousand each time.

But he wasn't a lamb to be slaughtered! He wouldn't let anyone take advantage of him so easily!

"With your character, you don't deserve my charity!" Alexander's expression turned cold, and his gaze was frigid as he turned away. He spoke to his companions, "Quickly, get the children on the plane. We need to leave before the next storm!"

Ivy, Maria, Anthony, Ben, Ethan, Calvin, and Mark, each holding a child, orderly boarded the helicopter.

The other three employees knew better and stood obediently aside, waiting for Alexander's instructions.

After the seven adults and the children had boarded, Alexander approached Annabel, intending to assist her onto the helicopter personally.

However, Annabel waved him off, indicating that she didn't need any help.

As she reached the entrance to the cabin, James aggressively pushed Annabel aside, attempting to board before her.

Annabel's face darkened. "Move aside!"

Not only did James refuse to move, but he also sneered at her. "Old hag, who do you think you are? Dumb and clueless, can't even speak properly, yet you dare to shout at me?

"If it weren't for this gentleman's act of kindness, you wouldn't even have the qualification to sit on a plane. Look at your own wretched self, barely clinging to life, and yet you want to burden others!

"I suggest you refrain from boarding the plane and instead remain here in the mountains to meet your demise. Why bother getting on the plane? Do you expect this gentleman to provide for your elderly care?"

He was well aware that there were only 12 seats on the helicopter, and if this disheveled old lady boarded, it would mean one less seat for others.

James' words angered everyone present. Ivy and Alexander could hardly restrain themselves from giving him a beating.

"Slap!" Annabel delivered a resounding slap across James' face.

She sternly admonished him. "You don't even have the ability to pay your workers, so what qualifies you to run a factory? If you can't even be honest and trustworthy, what right do you have to waste the air we breathe? I suggest you don't board the plane and just stay here to meet your end!"

"You ill-mannered old hag, how dare you lay your hands on me!" James raised his hand, preparing to strike back.

Annabel firmly grabbed his arm and gave it a powerful swing, sending him flying dozens of yards away.
