Chapter 62 Blaming the Fifth Daughter
"But, but I can't eat..." The third daughter cried.
The fourth daughter choked up, "I-I also can't...can't eat. Every time I think about how I get to eat steak every day while Mommy can't have anything, it makes me feel so...so guilty..."
The eldest daughter said sorrowfully, "When Mommy was alive, she always gave us good food and let us have the steak while she only drank soup. She even said that she didn't like eating it..."
"For our sake, Mommy never slept well or had a full meal in her life," sobbed the second daughter. "If only she wasn't drowned by water, then I could give her all these steaks to eat..."
The fifth daughter cried and added: "Mommy wouldn’t even buy new clothes for herself because...because she earned too little money and we six grew up too fast. Whenever we bought clothes, we had to buy six pieces at once and Mommy's daily earnings weren’t enough for everything…"
Alexander couldn’t help but cry when he heard what his children were saying - not just because of Ivy's death but also because their words reminded him of his own mother.
When he was eight years old, his parents died in a car accident right before his eyes. He witnessed their tragic deaths and felt incredibly sad and lost until his grandmother came along to raise him, otherwise he would’ve lost faith in life long ago.
Lost in memories of grief suddenly interrupted by an angry voice from the eldest sister: “It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t been sleeping inside that tree hole then mommy wouldn’t have gone looking for you near the riverbank! If mommy hadn’t gone down there then she wouldn’t have been swept away by those whirlpools…”
"Yes! It's all the fifth daughter's fault!" The other four siblings followed suit, blaming Ivy for their mother’s death.
Ivy was heartbroken and cried out: "I know it's my fault, but I don't know how to make up for it...Daddy, please tell me what I can do to bring Mommy back..."
How could she make up for it?
Alexander gently hugged his fifth daughter and then embraced each of his children one by one. He said soothingly: "You are sextuplets born from the same mother, you are inseparable as a whole. You must help each other instead of hurting each other."
"If any of you go missing, Mommy will look for them. Every child is equally important in her eyes. So please don't hurt your own siblings just because of this accident that we cannot change or fix. If you really want to make amends, then love each other more and reunite as a family so that our mommy in heaven can see how obedient and well-behaved you all are...Do you want to listen to Daddy?"
"Yes!" The children cried while still sobbing.
"Then eat your food properly and don’t let our mommy worry about us anymore."
"Okay..." The children obediently returned to their seats and picked up their bowls with spoons ready.
Maria and the housekeepers couldn’t help but shed tears at how sensible these six little ones were being.
Just as they were eating peacefully, Alexander’s assistant Ethan rushed in anxiously: "Mr. Ashford! Your nephew has arrived saying he has an urgent matter!"
"Urgent?" Alexander glanced at his children before coldly replying: "Don't let him come near us!"
"I'm sorry sir but he's already outside the villa gate," Ethan replied frantically.
"Darn it!" Alexander stood up hastily before instructing Maria and the housekeepers: "Hide them all and don't let anyone find them. Also, get rid of any traces of their clothes, shoes, socks or toys!"
