Chapter 215 An Old Lady on the Back Mountain
Seeing Alexander driving the car into the lumberyard, the person shouted sternly, "Who's that? Why did you drive your car into the lumberyard? Quickly leave, it's very dangerous here!"
"Turn around and leave!" Alexander opened the car window and replied.
The car had just driven in and hadn't had time to turn around when there was suddenly a loud noise behind them.
Countless boulders rolled down, quickly blocking their retreat.
Everyone saw this and couldn't help but feel despair. Was today their doomed day?
"Oh no, the road is blocked, and we can't get out," several panicked lumberyard workers shouted.
The leader put down the loudspeaker, his eyes revealing sorrow.
"Why is fate so cruel to me? The lumberyard just started, and we just got our first project. Is everything going to be ruined like this?"
An employee of the lumberyard also said with sadness, "I just found a suitable job. My family was happy for me, but unfortunately I haven't received my salary yet..."
Another employee said, "I hope the landslide will stop here. If we move the rocks, we can still leave. But if it continues to slide down, we really won't be able to go back..."
As soon as he finished speaking, the landslide started again.
This time it was on their way back, and boulders big and small fell, quickly blocking their way back.
An employee burst into tears on the spot. "Now it's next to impossible to go back. Not only do we have to move the rocks at the entrance of the lumberyard, but we also have to move the rocks on the way back.
"Even if we move them, we may not be able to escape. Who knows if the landslide will continue? I'm so young, and I don't want to die..."
Alexander opened the car door, surveyed the terrain around him, and said to everyone,
"The reason why the lumberyard hasn't been affected by the landslide is because there are big trees around here holding firm roots. As of now, this is the safest place.
"Don't panic, you can hold onto the big trees or squat in the ditch. Protect your heads, and don't run around. I'll arrange a helicopter right away!"
After comforting everyone, Alexander took the people in the car to the middle of several big trees. "We will stay here. In case of a landslide, hold on to the big trees. Don't panic, the helicopter will be here soon."
With that, Alexander picked up his phone and dialed the number, giving the address and requesting a helicopter for rescue.
As he hung up the phone, James approached him hopefully.
"Sir, with six daughters born at once, you are quite lucky! May I ask how many people can your helicopter accommodate? Can you take us all with you when you leave?"
"I've arranged a large helicopter that seats 13 people, including the pilot. So, there are 12 seats left. How many people do you have over there?" replied Alexander.
"Six, including myself!" confirmed James.
Alexander looked at his own group and said, "I have six adults and six children. The children can sit on the adults' lap. So, we have exactly six empty seats, which is perfect."
"That's great!" exclaimed James, taking out a pack of cigarettes immediately and offering one to Alexander.
"Thank you, but I don't smoke." Alexander waved his hand.
A short employee suddenly came up to James, speaking in a low voice, "Boss, what about the old lady on the back mountain? She's alone and pitiful. Are we going to abandon her here? What if the landslide happened on the back mountain..."
James glared at him fiercely. "Why do you care so much? There are no extra seats left on the plane.
"Besides, the old lady has been suffering from dementia for many years and is a lonely old person who barely makes ends meet. Her life doesn't have any meaning.
"Why should we care about her when even her own children don't care? Are you going to take her home and look after her?"
The short employee suddenly fell silent, with a complicated expression on his face that was both aggrieved and helpless.
Alexander had previously thought that James was a good person, but hearing what he said, he lost all good impressions of him.
His deep gaze turned to Ivy, as if asking if she agreed to let him go to the back mountain and take the old lady away.
He had the money to give the old lady a good life, but he dared not leave easily. If he left and an accident like a landslide happened again, what would happen to Ivy and the children?
