Chapter 499: Marrying the Housemaid
Upon seeing Beatrice, Scarlett couldn't help but tear up, her eyes filled with sorrow. "Beatrice, why are you here? Did you come secretly? Quickly go back, if they find out, they won't spare you."
"I quit, leaving without anything!" Beatrice said, feeling wronged and helpless. "They withheld my clothes and the savings I accumulated over the years, just because they were afraid I would support you! It's also my fault for leaving in such a hurry. Scarlett and Beatrice, each holding a child, walked towards the village through the heavy snow.

However, Scarlett purposely chose a house that was in very poor condition. The landlord was a middle-aged man surnamed Zhang who had been too poor to find a wife.

Beatrice whispered, "This is the worst house we've seen!"

The middle-aged man nodded shyly. "Yes, if you plan to stay long-term, I can charge you monthly, around three to fifty dollars, enough for me to eat. If you plan to stay short-term, you don't need to pay me. Consider it borrowing the house to you for a few days."
This person is really nice! Scarlett thought.
"Living here for the rest of our lives?" Scarlett asked.
The middle-aged man looked somewhat surprised. "Are you serious? Living in my house for the rest of your lives?"
"Sigh!" Scarlett sighed, immediately embodying her acting skills. "Benny, I don't know if you've heard, but there was a flood in the Jiangnan region recently, and we escaped from there. To be honest, we don't have any money on us and we've been begging along the way to survive.
We've had enough of those days and if we could find a suitable man, we'd love to get married right away. However, on our journey, we picked up two children.
Without children, getting married wouldn't be a problem, but with two dependents, no one wants us!"
"I..." the man wanted to say something. He was willing to take them in, but when he thought about his own situation, he hesitated to speak up.
Both of these women are from the same family. If he marries one, he'll have to support the other as well as the two children. Marrying one and taking on three, who can afford to do that?
Scarlett noticed the man's thoughts and pointed at Beatrice, saying, "This is my sister. If we're talking about marriage, she will be the one to marry first. My sister and I have agreed that we will each take care of one of the children. Whoever can accept this child, my sister will marry them unconditionally!"
Beatrice suddenly felt as if she was being sold and she stared at her own younger sister with a strange expression.
"Sister, since you don't have anyone you like anyway, I think Benny is a good person. Why don't we keep him and cultivate some feelings?"
