Chapter 55 She Really Left

"Luna, don't force yourself. Your foot injury is so severe that you can't walk," Blake quickly supported Ivy and advised her, "With such a serious injury, you can't work even if you go back. It's better to stay here and rest first, and make a decision when your injury gets better."

Ivy didn't expect herself to be injured so badly that it was not only difficult but almost impossible for her to move around.

Returning home in this condition would be a burden as she couldn’t work or take care of the children.

She still owed Maria rent money; should she trouble Maria again to take care of her? Did Maria owe her anything?

Maria had already helped take care of six children which was not easy at all. So Ivy agreed with Blake’s suggestion to wait until her foot healed before returning.

The men were all very happy about Luna staying behind and prepared a sumptuous dinner while sharing their stories with Ivy over drinks.

It turned out that Blake didn’t have a full name; he was just called Blake along with the other eight orphans who also did not have proper identities yet.

Ivy decided that once she returned to the city, she would find the director of an orphanage and ask him/her help these nine men obtain legal identities by registering them properly under their names.

The next day,

At Ashford family villa,

Early in the morning Alexander summoned Ethan and drove straight towards the riverbank.

Ethan looked at the endless water surface feeling uneasy inside.
"Mr. Ashford, why did you come here?"

"She's dead now; sooner or later her body will float up." Alexander choked on his words slightly as he continued speaking: "I want to bring her back to The Ashford Family Villa and give her last dignity!"

"But what about these six children... Shouldn't we do paternity tests first? If they are not Ashford's descendants, the old lady will definitely..." Ethan didn't dare to continue speaking but Alexander knew what he wanted to say.

If these six children were not Alexander's biological offspring, his grandmother would never accept them and wouldn’t allow him to bring a corpse back into The Ashford Family Villa.

"Then let’s do a paternity test. Notify me of the results as soon as possible. Regardless of whether they are my children or not, I will raise all six of them. As for my grandmother, don't reveal anything about the children yet."

"Understood!"

Alexander stared blankly at the river surface until he had an illusion that Ivy was walking towards him on water in a white dress like a fairy from afar.

"Alexander, take good care of our children..."

Ivy spoke with her beautiful and ethereal voice.

"Ivy..."

Alexander reached out his hand towards Ivy in front of him but she disappeared in an instant before he could touch her.

The endless river surface remained unchanged as if Ivy had never appeared there before.

“Is she saying goodbye to me? Has she really left...”

A tearful drop rolled down Alexander's cheek while Ethan consoled him sympathetically.

Ethan had been accompanying Alexander for so long but had never seen him so sad and heartbroken before.

"Let's go back!"

With heavy emotions weighing on his mind, Alexander turned around and left shortly after Blake’s boat docked ashore having just finished fishing with full harvests except for Blake who stayed behind with Ivy on board their boat by the riverside.

Blake pushed Ivy slowly along in her wheelchair while looking relaxed outside but anxious inside...
