Chapter 204 Don't Blame Others
Oliver's remark was met with disdainful expressions from the other eight brothers. He seemed so pleased, but he was just going to the kindergarten.
One would think he had attended some top-notch university!
It was getting late, and everyone returned to their rooms to rest.
When Ivy returned to her own room, she realized that the children were not there, and she couldn't help but feel anxious.
Then she remembered something the children had mentioned while taking a bath. They said they wanted to sleep on the hotel's big bed.
She hurried over and found the children exactly there.
Six of them were already fast asleep, lying in all sorts of positions on the bed. Maria was busy arranging them one by one.
Seeing Maria diligently working, Ivy couldn't help but have a few tears.
There were two beds in the guest room, and one of them was empty.
Maria saw Ivy and pointed to the empty bed, saying, "Sleep or not? My treat!"
"Sleep!" Ivy wiped away her tears, giggled, and lay down on the bed.
It was the first time Ivy and Maria had a heart-to-heart conversation while sharing a bed. They talked about many childhood anecdotes for hours, and neither of them knew who said the last sentence. They just fell asleep as they spoke.
At the Ashford Villa...
It was 2 in the morning. Alexander still couldn't rest. He looked at a pile of old photos on the table, furrowing his brow in contemplation.
Ethan had been waiting by his side all this time. As long as Alexander didn't sleep, Ethan wouldn't dare to sleep either, no matter how tired he was.
Among the photos was a family portrait taken when Alexander was five years old.
In the middle of the photo sat Alexander's grandpa, Beckett, and his grandma, Annabel.
Behind Beckett and Annabel stood Alexander's father, Jaxon Ashford, and mother, Calliope Ashford.
On the right side were Alexander's uncle, Evander Ashford, and aunt, Lyra Ashford.
On Beckett's lap sat Jovan, Alexander's three-year-old cousin.
In Annabel's arms was Maelle Ashford, Alexander's cousin.
And Alexander himself stood in front of Jaxon and Calliope.
The nine members of the extended family looked so happy and sweet. But now, only Alexander and his grandma, Annabel, were left.
Thinking back to the evening when he confronted Annabel about why she hit Richard and Samantha by car, he received a rapid-fire response.
"Alexander, are you still my grandson? How could you suspect me of causing a car accident? I'm almost 70 years old, and I need a cane to walk. How could I have the ability to drive and hit someone?
"Did Ivy tell you this? She has never been a good person! The accident involving Richard and Samantha was purely an accident. How can you blame it on me?
"Are you brain damaged? Are you stupid? You'd rather believe outsiders than trust me. Don't forget who raised you with so much effort!
"I'm leaving it here today. Don't ever try to accuse me again, or I won't be nice to you! If you're tired of being the CEO of Ashford Family Business, let Leo take over. The Ashford family doesn't solely rely on you, Alexander!"
Annabel insisted that she had nothing to do with the car accident involving Richard and Samantha.
Alexander had no choice but to ask Hailey if she was responsible.
Hailey exploded in anger right away.
"Don't accuse me without evidence! Did you see me causing a car accident with your own eyes? Show me the evidence!
"If you dare to falsely accuse me, be careful. I send you to jail! My mom was right. The Ashford family doesn't solely rely on you. If you dare to stir up trouble, I'll immediately strip you of your power!"
"You can't just take away my power as you please!" Alexander's gaze turned cold. "It's better if the car accident has nothing to do with any of you. Otherwise, don't expect me to recognize any of you as a family!"
With firm steps, he left the Ashford Villa and collided head-on with Leo, who had hurriedly returned.
Leo covered his head, gasping in pain.
"Alexander! Can't you watch where you're going? That hurt!"
