Chapter 377: The Mistress of the House
Upon hearing Annabel's words, the household servants rushed to the bottom of the sweet osmanthus tree. When they saw how tall the tree was, they became frightened and trembling.
"Oh my goodness, this tree is even taller than a two-story building. If we jump down, we'd be half dead from the fall..."
"That's right, my son is only seven years old. I won't make a joke about my child..."
Ivy walked to the tree with a stern face and said, "Your son is seven years old, right? Well, my daughter is only four! Yet she fell from a tree that high! If it weren't for her good fortune, she would have been separated from us by now! Why is it that your children's lives matter, but my daughter's life doesn't?"
The household servants were too ashamed to speak and apologized one by one.
Under the lead of one of the household servants, they even knelt down and begged for forgiveness.
However, Alexander was still unforgiving. He would not treat his own child as a gamble. With cold eyes, he said, "Ethan, settle their accounts!"
The household servants lost all hope and silently packed their things, helplessly leaving.
Apart from the eight head chefs, all the other household servants were dismissed.
As the household servants left, Ethan turned to leave as well.
"Where are you going?" Ivy asked.
"I'm going to the domestic service center to hire people!" Ethan replied.
It turned out that he wanted to hire people. Ivy was startled, thinking he was going to leave too.
This young man was not bad. He had always been diligent and dedicated to his work. Ivy didn't want him to leave either.
Maria curiously asked, "How many people do you need to hire?"
"As many as we lack," Ethan said.
"Oh my, won't that be a significant expense?" Maria felt a heartache as if she was the one paying the salary.
"Is it a lot of expenses? It has always been like this for many years!" Alexander put down Sixie and asked, "Do you have any suggestions, Aunt Maria?"
Maria cleared her throat and said, "What suggestions could I have? It's nothing more than hiring fewer people and saving on expenses. Pointing at Ivy, "Your wife is highly educated, she must have some ideas."
Then she nudged Ivy with her elbow, "Sister, new broom sweeps clean. As the mistress of the Ashford family, won't you say a few words?"
"Me?" Ivy glanced at Annabel and then said, "This house should be managed by Grandma. I am new here and don't understand anything..."
"No, don't bother me with such troublesome matters!" Annabel immediately took Richard's arm, "We are leaving tomorrow to travel the world. I don't know when we will be back. You all take care of your own daily lives, but don't include us in your plans."
Maria said, "Since that's the case, Ivy, don't decline. Quickly show us your skills as the mistress of the house. Spend money where necessary, but absolutely save where it's not needed. In my opinion, if you need to hire household servants, three or four people would be enough. Don't be like before, spending hundreds of thousands each month to support a dozen idle people!"
"I also think there are too many servants. We can reduce the number appropriately," Ivy murmured.
Spending hundreds of thousands each month adds up to millions each year, and tens of millions over ten years. Just thinking about how much Alexander has spent over the years...
So much unjust money, it feels extremely heart-wrenching.
"Ivy..."
Alexander took out an unlimited secret-free card and handed it to Ivy, tightly embracing her in his arms, with a gentle voice, he said, "From now on, the economic power of the Ashford family is in your hands. Arrange it however you like, I have no objections!"
Arrange it however she liked? That means spend however she pleases!
Ivy widened her eyes with joy. Having a rich husband is truly wonderful. She no longer needs to worry about her children's tuition fees.
She casually put the card in her pocket and replied, "Then I will gratefully accept your offer!"
"Then, Lady Ivy!" Ethan respectfully asked, "How many staff members should I hire back?"
Ivy thought for a moment and said, "Hire six maids, that should be enough!"
"Are you sure?" Ethan couldn't believe it. The number of staff is reduced by two-thirds!
"What was the monthly salary of the previous maids?" Ivy asked.
"It ranged from 12,000 to 15,000 dollars. The maid who took the loan to buy a house has been with us for the longest time, almost 20 years. With her base salary, bonuses, and year-end bonus, her annual income is 200,000 dollars."
"What?!" Ivy couldn't believe it. "20 years of work, earning 200,000 dollars per year, and still needing a mortgage? She must have saved at least three or four million dollars, right?"
Ethan nodded and said, "Exactly, she bought a villa worth over 20 million dollars."
