Chapter 56: Selling Fish to Support You
Ivy missed her children and wished she could reunite with them immediately. However, with her injured foot, going back would only be a burden. She couldn't take care of the children nor work, and she needed someone to take care of her.
Sighing deeply, Ivy said, "Blake, when do you think my injury will recover?"
"Luna," Blake replied in a gentle voice. "This is not something that can be rushed. As the saying goes, it takes one hundred days for an injury to heal completely. To fully recover from your injury will take at least three months!"
"Three months? That long?" Ivy was dumbfounded. She thought that after three or five days her foot would feel better and she could quickly go back.
"Luna, your injury is severe; even your ankle bone was broken by the clamshell," Blake explained patiently. "You need proper rest."
"What? Broken?" Ivy couldn't believe it was so serious until she tried moving her injured left foot and felt excruciating pain.
"Don't move it! Let it heal properly." Blake gently stroked Ivy's injured left foot and comforted her by saying: "Actually this kind of injury isn't anything special for us fishermen who often suffer injuries like sprains or fractures while fishing. We used to never go to hospitals before but then our third brother had a serious leg fracture so we bought him a wheelchair."
"How did he recover? Are there any side effects?" Ivy worried about whether walking would be affected after recovering from such an injury herself.
"He recovered very well; he can run and jump now," Blake smiled reassuringly at her question. "When he comes back I'll have him show you."
"And you were the one who bandaged his wound too?" asked Ivy curiously as if regretting not having gone to the hospital when she broke her ankle.
"Yes, do you doubt my bandaging skills?" Blake smiled and showed his neat white teeth. "From childhood until now, I've always been the one who bandages our brothers' wounds. We never go to hospitals. Your injury was treated very well by me; as long as you don't move it for three months, there won't be any after-effects."
Three months? If she waited that long before going back, her children would think their mommy had died!
Realizing that she had already spent two nights away from the small hotel where Alexander gave her a fake leave of absence for only two days, Ivy suddenly panicked. She should have gone back to Flower Fitness Club tonight if she didn't want Alexander to find out about the secret of her children.
Thinking about how Alexander might react if he found out that she was with a stranger man made Ivy even more anxious. Although she never dared hope for any development with Alexander, ruining her impression in his heart would not be good since he was both the father of her children and also her boss.
"Blake," Ivy said with a pouting face. "I haven't been working for two days now; my boss will definitely look for me! Can you please take me back?"
"Now? With your injured foot? How can you work?" Blake firmly disagreed and added: "No way! I won't take you there!"
"What if I insist on going back myself?" Ivy raised an eyebrow at him.
Blake didn't want Ivy to leave but also didn't want to make her angry so he compromised: "Okay then... tell me where your workplace is located and I'll ask your boss for time off on your behalf."
Ask time off on behalf of someone else? What kind of relationship did they have? What would happen if Alexander knew that she was with another man?
Although Ivy never expected anything from Alexander romantically, she couldn't afford to ruin her image in his eyes. After all, he was the father of her children and also her boss.
"No, I have to ask for time off myself," Ivy insisted. "My boss is not easy to talk to; if he doesn't see my injury with his own eyes, he won't believe that I'm injured."
"What kind of unreasonable boss is that? If it's like this then just quit your job! Blake can sell fish to support you!"
