Chapter 53: Hammering the Clam Shells
The implication was that she had no family.
Ivy didn't want these men to know where she lived, let alone that she had given birth to six angelic daughters. Girls were always vulnerable and needed strict protection during their growth. Any potential danger must be strictly isolated.
"Is she an orphan?" Blake asked sympathetically.
After bandaging Ivy's foot, he pointed at the clam meat and said, "Eat it quickly before it gets cold."
"It doesn't matter if it's cold since it's to be packed," Ivy replied nonchalantly.
"Packed?" Blake was surprised.
"Well, I have a few good friends in the orphanage who often give me things to eat, so I thought..."
"So you brought them for your friends in the orphanage? Let me put them in the fridge for you then. You can take them with you when you leave," Blake said as he took all six strings of clam meat into the cabin.
Ivy never expected there would be a refrigerator on this boat. These fishermen seemed to live quite well.
As the sun grew stronger, broken clam shells emitted strange and colorful light once again. Ivy became more convinced that these shells were valuable treasures. So despite her sore feet, she climbed up to the pile of shells in front of her.
At this moment, what lay before her eyes wasn't just a pile of clam shells but rather a heap of gold and silver jewelry instead. She came up with a business plan without any investment - turning these clam shells into jewelry which could sell for quite some money!
"Luna, what are you doing?" Blake hurried over and said anxiously,"Your foot has just been bandaged; don't move around recklessly."
"I...I also want to pack these shells." Ivy replied hesitantly.
"You're packing these too?" Blake was even more surprised. "Are you also bringing them for your friends in the orphanage?"
"Yes, I think these shells are pretty and can be made into small accessories for everyone to wear."
"Okay, let me get a sack to help you pack." Blake went back to the cabin again.
"And bring a hammer!" Ivy shouted.
"I got it," Blake replied.
By the fire pit, several men whispered quietly among themselves.
"Blake is really hardworking today. He's been running back and forth without getting tired."
"He's doing things for that beautiful woman. If it were me, I wouldn't feel tired either."
"Do you think this woman could be our future sea wife?"
"Oh, now that you mention it...it's quite possible..."
Ivy overheard their conversation with her sharp ears and glared at them angrily. She had to leave here as soon as possible before these men started teasing her unnecessarily.
Blake brought a hammer and asked Ivy,"How much do you want me to smash them?"
"A piece about the size of my palm should do." Ivy thought for a moment before replying.
Next was Blake tirelessly smashing clam shells while Ivy silently cleaned up beside him. One shell was big enough for a double bed; two shells equaled two beds! It was truly not an easy task to smash all of them into pieces about the size of one's palm!
When Blake finished smashing all the clam shells, the sun had almost set already. They filled four sacks full of clamshells!
Looking at those four bags full of clamshells in front of her face filled Ivy with joy because she knew that soon they would bring her great wealth! With money she could buy houses and cars so that her children would never have to worry about having no meat on their plates again!
"Luna, does your orphanage really have so many friends?" Blake kept shaking his sore hand non-stop from all that hammering.
How many accessories could they make from these four bags of clamshells? Did the orphanage really have that many people?
Seven or eight men came over to see what was going on after they finished their work. One of them asked, "Did you smash all those clam shells to sell for money?"
