Chapter 50 Left Foot Injured
To Ivy's surprise, as soon as she put the glowing pearl in her mouth, it slid down to her abdomen immediately.
"Damn it! How did I swallow it?" Ivy tried to vomit several times but failed.
However, she suddenly realized that she had gained night vision. Even without any light around her, she could see everything clearly.
This pearl was indeed a treasure and she must take it with her.
Ivy used all her strength to tear apart the flesh of the river clam. The clam couldn't bear the pain and had to open its shell.
At that moment when the shell opened, Ivy seized the opportunity and rushed out. However, the river clam was not an easy target either. It immediately closed its shell just as Ivy was about to escape completely.
Ivy couldn't dodge in time and got caught by the left foot firmly between two shells of the clam.
"Damn! It hurts so much!" Ivy struggled desperately but couldn't break free from the grip of this river clam.
During this struggle, Ivy made another major discovery - She could breathe freely underwater!
After taking a few deep breaths in succession, Ivy confirmed that it was definitely due to this pearl inside her belly which gave her such a special ability under water!
Ivy began to suspect that this river clam might not be an ordinary one but rather a spiritual being who had been practicing for hundreds or even thousands of years. And what she took away might not be just an ordinary pearl but possibly its inner alchemy instead!
It sounded unrealistic but now seemed true since there is no way an ordinary pearl would have such magical functions! Anyway, since it's already hers now after obtaining it by chance; no matter what happens next; there is no way she will give up on keeping this precious item with herself at all costs!
Now that she can breathe freely underwater, she can afford to stay there for as long as she wants. The only problem is how to get her left foot out of the clam's shell intact.
After struggling again and again, Ivy still couldn't get her foot out. She couldn't help but curse angrily: "Are you done yet? Let me go!"
To her surprise, Ivy discovered another new skill - She could speak freely underwater!
Since she can talk now, Ivy negotiated with the river clam: "I have swallowed your pearl and cannot spit it out anymore. It's pointless for us to keep fighting like this. Why don't you let me go first? I will return the pearl to you when I find a way."
The river clam seemed to understand human language and slowly opened its shell.
Ivy pulled away her foot immediately and swam towards the water surface.
However, the river clam seemed regretful after seeing Ivy escape; it immediately chased after her relentlessly.
Ivy swam desperately while being pursued by the clam non-stop.
Perhaps due to losing its inner alchemy or something else unknown; the speed of this river clam gradually slowed down while that of Ivy kept increasing in order not be caught up by it!
When dawn was approaching, she finally reached the water surface!
It turned out that the River was much deeper than Missouri River! If it weren't for obtaining this inner alchemy from that river clam which gave her ability to breathe freely under water; based on her previous physical strength alone; there would be no way for her swim all way up here from such depths below!
Exhausted completely upon reaching ashore; when trying stand up straight afterwards...she found herself having a severely injured left foot...
If that damn river clam had clamped onto my left leg any longer, it would have been completely useless by now!
