Chapter 143 What's Going on With Your Granddaughter?
"Seventy to eighty years? It's not seven to eight hundred years!" Mrs. Ashford was immediately disappointed.
Upon hearing Ivy's introduction, Richard nodded in satisfaction. Although Ivy didn't tell the truth, he would have done the same if it were him.
Everyone saw Richard nodding and assumed that Ivy was telling the truth. They all gave her thumbs up and praised her in various ways.
Hailey said angrily, "Mom, this mussel shell is just an ordinary river mussel that has been alive for a few decades. It's useless. Yesterday, that expert told us it had a history of ten thousand years, and we paid fifteen thousand dollars for the appraisal fee!"
Ivy didn't care whether they were cheated or not as she asked while holding the mussel shell, "May I ask Mrs. Ashford where this mussel shell fragment came from?"
Mrs. Ashford sneered. "Humph, I get angry every time I talk about this. It was left behind by a country maid who worked as a nanny in my house."
Hailey added, "A rural girl worked as a nanny in the Alexander household. She had never seen the world before and thought these worthless items were treasures. When she left, she forgot this mussel shell fragment."
"Oh? Since it was forgotten, why didn't you notify her to take the mussel shell back but instead invite my grandpa to come and appraise it? It's not good to take other people's things without their permission, is it?"
Ivy took another step forward and said bluntly, "If the appraisal result proves that this mussel shell has a history of more than ten thousand years, will you still return it to her? Do you plan to keep this mussel shell for yourself?"
Mrs. Ashford's face darkened instantly. "What's wrong with you? How could you say such things? Am I the kind of person who would take advantage of a country girl? The Ashford family is a prominent and wealthy family. Why would we want to keep something as worthless as this mussel shell? Even if it were given to me, I wouldn't want it."
Ivy smiled and shook her head. "Mrs. Ashford, you've lived for so many years. How come you can't speak properly? You shouldn't say, 'Even if it were given to me, I wouldn't want it.' Instead, you should say, 'If it's not mine, I absolutely won't take it.'"
Annabel stuttered, her face turning red with anger.
Mrs. Ashford was furious and pointed at Richard, "What's wrong with your granddaughter? Why is she targeting me everywhere? What have I done to her?"
Richard was equally puzzled and stared at Ivy with incredulity.
Meanwhile, Alexander closed his eyes and listened carefully. The more he listened, the more he realized that Richard's granddaughter's voice was exactly the same as Ivy's.
He thought to himself that if he checked her hand for a diamond ring, he could find out if she was Ivy or not.
Alexander quickly approached Ivy and examined her hand closely, but she didn't have anything on her hand.
Little did he know that Ivy had already taken off the ring and was about to throw it back to him but was stopped by Leo.
Not seeing the diamond ring, Alexander became confused again. Was this woman Ivy or not?
He wanted to take off her mask but was afraid it would be too rude. What if she wasn't Ivy? Then he would become a terrible person!
Suddenly, Alexander had an idea and pulled out his phone, calling Ivy's number on the spot.
Ivy picked up her phone, but upon seeing that it was Alexander calling, she gave him an angry glare and refused to answer.
In fact, this woman was Ivy all along. Why was he so blind before?
Alexander slapped his forehead and suddenly laughed.
"You're crazy!" Ivy muttered quietly and handed the mussel shell fragment to Richard.
"Grandpa, can you tell everyone the true value of the mussel shell now?"
"Do you want me to tell the truth?" Richard asked uneasily.
Richard hesitated, knowing that Ivy's family had five identical mussel shells. Once the true value was revealed, someone would covet them.
"Grandpa, you can't hide the truth forever. One day, others will know the truth. Just tell them," Ivy pleaded. She really wanted to know what Mrs. Ashford's face would look like when she found out the real value of the mussel shell fragment.
