Chapter 695 The Spirit Realm
Before long, they returned to the living room.
This time, three more people were with them, Annabel's parents and grandmother.
Ivy thought they were having a pleasant conversation, otherwise why would they all come out together?
Unexpectedly, the expression on the face of the patriarch of the Ashford family was extremely displeasing, and even ten other elderly members of the family weren't particularly happy. Meanwhile, Lord and Lady Ashford, along with Wennie, wore a look of great injustice.
"What happened? Something seems amiss!" Alexander quietly moved closer to Ivy and whispered, "They just had a heated argument, and the cause was Fiona's responsibility for the death of my grandfather and the entire Beckett family."
Ivy suddenly felt that she had acted too impulsively. She shouldn't have let the Ashford patriarch know about the spirit world before resurrecting Beckett and the others.
Wennie approached the Ashford patriarch with deep remorse and said, "Little Ashford, please calm down. Let Auntie explain properly. Fiona is indeed a descendant of the Lewis family, and she is at fault for the harm she has caused.
We understand your anger towards her, and not only are you angry, but we are also very angry with her actions. You see, years ago, it was Fiona who personally pushed me into the river to drown, and she caused my daughter and son-in-law so much distress that they couldn't bear to live anymore..."
The Ashford matriarch, filled with anger, said, "At this point, you still stand up for Fiona? Is that reasonable? If what you say is true, why are you three still alive and well?"
"What is Fiona's grandson's name again?"
"Miss Ashford, please don't be so impulsive. I swear, every word I say is true," Wennie said, patting her chest. "The three of us did die, but it was because the spirit tree grows in the Lewis family estate. My son-in-law Lord has been tending to this spirit tree since he was young, and the book fairy you just saw inside the tree saved my daughter and son-in-law as a gratitude towards him.
As for myself, I suffered in the desolate land of the underworld for more than forty years. When Ivy and Alexander were burning paper at the grave, I was being whipped by soul-reaping whips. So they rescued me from the underworld and helped me return to the living world."
Ivy and Alexander nodded repeatedly, recounting the events of that day.
Upon hearing about these events, the Ashford family patriarch and the other ten elders finally had much improved expressions.
However, the six Ashford family matrons couldn't accept it and said, "Even if things are like this, Fiona's actions against the Ashford family are still unforgivable. We must punish her severely. We cannot forgive her under any circumstances!"
"Yes, she must be tormented!" the Ashford family patriarch declared.
Lord's wife, Lilis, spoke up, "Indeed, Fiona's harm against the Ashford family is unforgivable, but the harm she caused the Lewis family is also unforgivable. At the beginning, we didn't know the truth and thought Fiona was a good person, while her sister Annabel was the evil one. We all helped Fiona and made Annabel suffer too much.
By the time we found out the truth, it was too late, and we couldn't do anything against Fiona. We had no choice but to choose suicide. Fiona is an unforgivable sinner, and she deserves to die. I have no objections to how you torment her and punish her, but our daughter Annabel is innocent. Please spare her for the sake of her contribution to the Ashford family lineage."
Before the Ashford family patriarch could speak, Alexander said to Lilis, "Madam, rest assured. Each person should pay what is owed to them. Our Ashford family ancestors are fair in their sense of justice. Even if we seek revenge, we will not harm the innocent."
The Ashford family patriarch glared fiercely at Alexander. He was not that kind of person at all. He remembered clearly that not long ago, he personally instructed Alexander and Ivy to seek revenge on Fiona's descendants.
As he thought about this, he couldn't help but ask, "What is Fiona's grandson's name?"
"What's your name?"
"Leo!" all ten wives replied in unison.
Leo had always been afraid of catching the attention of the Ashford family's patriarch, so he intentionally chose the most secluded spot, trying his best to make himself invisible.
But hiding couldn't save him, as he was called upon.
Nervously, he stepped forward and knelt before the elderly Ashford patriarch.
"Oh revered patriarch, I bow... bow... bow to you!" Leo bowed his head three times, each bow louder than the last.
"You must be Leo?" The elderly Ashford patriarch's stern gaze bore down upon him. "Are you married?"
"N-n-no... I'm not!" Leo stammered, visibly trembling.
With a pitiful gaze, he looked at Alexander and Ivy, unsure if his answer was correct.
Not far away, a blue speckled snake, upon hearing Leo's words, felt both angry and resentful. Wasn't it Leo's intended bride? Even if they weren't married yet, Leo had promised to marry it. If not as a wife, at least as a fiancée!
"Very well, since you're not married, I will find someone for you from the underworld!" the elderly Ashford patriarch declared forcefully.
Upon hearing that the patriarch was going to find Leo a bride, the blue speckled snake panicked. It hadn't even had a chance to enjoy its newfound love and now it was going to be stolen away?
Leo also panicked upon hearing those words. If the Ashford patriarch found him a ghost bride from the underworld, his life would be ruined. He would never have good days again.
He quickly said, "Oh revered patriarch, I-I-I have... I have a fiancée already. Her... her name is Ruby..."
Upon hearing its own name, the blue speckled snake became ecstatic. This man was truly considerate!
"A fiancée, you say? Where is she? What does she look like?" The elderly Ashford patriarch's gaze scanned the surroundings with seriousness.
When he saw a blue speckled snake, he suddenly remembered what Ivy had said. Ivy had mentioned that to get back at Leo, she would marry her pet snake to him.
Leo's fiancée... could it really be this pet snake?
