Chapter 502: You Can't Kill Me
Marcus thought that nothing would happen if he jumped down, after all, there was thick snow covering the ground.
To his surprise, a large patch of ground beneath the window was bare and without snow.
Scarlett had actually cleared the snow from that large patch of ground.
She even left some shards of broken glass!
"Thump..."
"Click..."
"Ah..."
Marcus let out a cry of pain.
Not only did he suffer severe bone fractures, but he was also pierced by many shards of glass.
"Scarlett, you heartless woman! We've slept together, and I'm the father of your child!"
"You? You're not capable!" Scarlett approached with a knife. "You conspired with Isadora to kill my father and seize the assets of the Qin family. What right do you have to be the father of my child?"
Just as she was about to raise the knife, Marcus hurriedly said, "No, I didn't conspire with Isadora. I was with her just to make some money. I had no idea you were the young miss of the Qin family!"
Scarlett felt a hint of pity but still unwillingly said, "You abandoned me for a whole ten months, causing me to suffer and be the subject of gossip. Isn't that a sin?"
"I... I had no other choice! At that time, you were broke, and I needed money to buy medicine for my mother. I had no choice but to get involved with Isadora."
"Aren't there any other ways for you to make money besides getting involved with women?"
"What other method can earn money faster than getting involved with women? My mother's illness, my brother's illness, there was no time to waste. We spent money like water every day, and no matter what job I did, I couldn't keep up with the expenses. Do you think I wanted it to be this way?"
As he spoke, Marcus cried with grievances, "Can't you put yourself in my shoes? Did I ever want to live such a life? When I was with you, I felt like a man, but when I was with other women, I was nothing more than a slave! If I had even the slightest alternative, who would willingly choose a life without dignity? Do you think it's comfortable to say insincere words every day? If it wasn't for my brother and mother's illnesses, I would never have gone down this path. Please, can you think about it from my perspective?"
"So, this is your reason for abandoning me?" Scarlett's gaze turned cold.
Marcus didn't deny it, "Yes, I needed money. If you had money and could give me enough, a continuous supply of money, I would never leave you, I swear!"
Scarlett was utterly disappointed, "So, the reason for this outcome between us is entirely because I am incompetent and can't come up with enough money to support you and your family!"
"That's indeed the case!" Marcus nodded desperately, but as soon as he saw the knife in Scarlett's hand, he immediately backed off.
"I don't blame you, really, I don't blame you, because you did your best. No matter what, you helped me, and I won't be ungrateful!" Marcus said as he took out four gold bars from his pocket, "Scarlett, take this, use it to raise our child. Isadora is already dead, let your hatred end here."
Scarlett did not take the gold bars, instead...
The woman loved this man, Marcus, deeply. She was even willing to cut ties with her father for him.
"Do I really have to kill Marcus?" She trembled as she held the knife in her hand.
Marcus, in pain and holding his broken leg, pleaded, "Xiao Fei, you can't kill me. Killing me is a crime. Take the gold bars, take the child, and leave. As for Isadora, it was me who pushed her into the fire. Her death is my responsibility!"
"Well then, how will you take responsibility?" Scarlett asked.
"That is not for you to worry about. It won't implicate you and the child. Just go!"
With those words, Marcus endured the pain from his broken leg and stuffed four gold bars into Scarlett's arms. "Go quickly, the farther the better!"
Scarlett was actually reluctant to leave Marcus. Despite hating him for abandoning her, love always outweighed the hatred.
Thinking that the half hour promised with her child was almost up, Scarlett had to leave quickly.
If she delayed any longer, she feared her child might freeze to death in the nest.
Just as she turned around, there was a loud crashing sound. The second floor collapsed.
Marcus couldn't escape in time, and burning beams fell onto his leg.
"Marcus..." Scarlett rushed back to rescue him.
Marcus waved his hand in the fire and said, "Don't come back, go quickly. I've grown tired of living a long time ago. This is a release for me..."
"No, Marcus, I will save you..." Scarlett resolutely plunged into the fire.
