Chapter 261: Why Did She Design Her?
Upon hearing this, Blake felt embarrassed.
"I...I would definitely love to be friends with you. You're an amazing person, but it doesn’t sit well with us that you, all of a sudden, are spending so much money on us, just on clothes. Besides, if we don't repay you the money for the clothes, your husband won't be a very happy man."
Maria lowered her eyes sadly, "My dear husband, may he rest in peace, passed away many years ago, and I've been living alone ever since."
"Oh, I am so sorry Maria, I didn't know." Blake quickly apologized.
"It's alright, it's been a long time since his passing," Maria prepared the milky tea and picked up two cups, "Let me bring this to your room."
"I...I can do it myself..."
Blake hurriedly went to take them, but accidentally touched Maria's hand.
Like an electric shock, both Maria and Blake instantly pulled their hands back.
As a result, half of the milky tea spilled out of the cups.
"I'm sorry, I...I didn't mean to..."
Blake quickly took out a cloth and tried to clean the mess up.
"It's not your fault, I wasn't holding it properly..."
Maria took the cloth away from him and cleaned up the spilled tea.
While wiping, she tentatively asked, "How old are you this year?"
"Me? I'm 29, turning 30 next month," Blake replied, and then asked out of curiosity, "And how about you?"
"I...I'm 10 years older than you..."
Maria's face turned red, why did she even ask about someone's age?
With a 10-year age difference, what kind of future could there be?
"Oh..." Blake just gave a faint response without any of the thoughts floating around inside his head.
Maria felt quite dejected, muttering to herself, "I'm a widow, I'm not worthy enough for a second marriage..."
The word "widow" was the one Maria detested the most, but now she was actually calling herself a widow, feeling extremely inferior.
"Maria, why are you saying that about yourself?"
Blake furrowed his brows, "Your husband passed away, it's not something you chose. You're still young, why can't you consider remarrying? It’s not inconceivable Maria. Should you meet someone suitable, it's perfectly possible!"
With Blake's words, Maria instantly regained her confidence. However, when she recalled that Blake was only 29 years old, she still felt hopeless.
After cleaning up the spilled tea, a sentence involuntarily blurted out of her mouth, "Do you mind a relationship with a noticeable age difference?"
"Huh?" Blake had just picked up the two cups of milky tea as he heard this question, causing him to tremble and spill some more tea.
Maria snapped back to her senses, her face turning extremely red. What did she just say?
"Um, I...I'll go help Ivy bathe the children now. You can bring the tea yourself..." Maria fled in embarrassment.
...
The Ashford Family mansion.
Fiona's bedroom.
Hailey and Fiona were relentlessly discussing how to deal with Ivy tomorrow, how to completely take over her pearl business.
Leo didn't come home tonight because his grandmother's birthday would be tomorrow.
"He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to wake up early enough tomorrow morning, so he decided to stay in the old house and sleep a little earlier."
"In his blanket, Leo had been playing games for a long time and was very thirsty, so he went to the living room to pour some water."
"As he passed by Grandma's room, he suddenly heard his mother's voice, so he curiously eavesdropped for a while."
"He happened to overhear Fiona discussing how to scheme against Ivy, even including Alexander, which made him quite angry."
"Grandma!"
Leo angrily pushed the door open, "Aren't you going too far with this? Ivy has never harmed you, why do you have to scheme against her? And Cousin has been so good to you, yet you included him in your plans!"
"Leo, why aren't you asleep?" Fiona was very surprised.
Hailey was also extremely surprised, "Didn't you already crawl into bed? Why are you out here?"
