Chapter 338 - In the Wrong Line
"So how did you manage to invite them?" Ivy asked.
Alexander patted his chest. "I promised to treat them to an authentic Michelin-starred meal."
"Oh!" Ivy chuckled. It was quite amusing that a makeup artist employed by an international superstar, whom regular people couldn't easily hire, was persuaded by Alexander with just a meal!
Pointing at the breakfast table, Pete gave a thumbs-up with great satisfaction. "The authentic Michelin-starred meal was absolutely delicious! Especially the pork tenderloin, it was incredibly fragrant! It's the best food I've ever had in my life!"
Alexander widened his eyes in surprise. The Michelin-starred meal he was talking about wasn't this breakfast.
He patted Pete's shoulder. "This is just a regular home-cooked meal. If you like it, you can come here often. The gourmet meals I'll treat you to can only be enjoyed during lunch and dinner."
"Wow, there's more for lunch and dinner? And we can come often to enjoy these gourmet meals?" Pete and his four assistants were extremely excited.
Ivy said, "Pete, I've studied Michelin-starred food extensively. If there's a chance, I'll cook some signature dishes for you to taste. For now, Alexander and I are going to get our marriage certificate. Could you please help my sister and grandmother with a beautiful bridal makeup?"
Pete made an okay gesture. "Okay, thank you. I'll also do a beautiful bridal makeup for you when you come back."
At the entrance of the marriage registration office, there was a long queue.
As soon as Ivy got out of the car, she quickly joined the line, afraid of being overtaken.
A middle-aged couple approached, their curious eyes fixed on Ivy.
"Miss, how long have you been married?" the middle-aged woman asked.
"I... haven't gotten married yet," Ivy replied.
Ivy was extremely frustrated. Why would she come to get her marriage certificate if she had already been married?
"You're not married, so you came here to get a divorce?" the middle-aged woman pointed to the window for divorce procedures. "This line is for getting a divorce, you're in the wrong queue, right?"
"Huh?" Ivy immediately ran out of the line and looked at the window for divorce procedures. Indeed, this queue was for getting a divorce.
Meanwhile, there was no one in the queue for getting a marriage certificate.
"Are you kidding me? I lined up for the divorce queue!" Alexander couldn't help but laugh and cry as he pulled Ivy's hand, walking towards the window for marriage certificates.
The registration staff was excited. "Oh, I can finally start working. Finally someone is applying for a marriage certificate!"
Alexander and Ivy looked at each other. Did no one apply for a marriage certificate nowadays?
Seeing the long queue for the divorce window, the two couldn't figure out why everyone lined up to get a divorce.
Wasn't life supposed to be good?
Ivy insisted on finding out the truth, so she publicly interviewed people in the divorce queue.
She first asked the young woman in the front, "May I ask why you want a divorce?"
The young woman stared at Ivy in a daze, somewhat surprised and conflicted. It seemed like she didn't want to answer.
There were whispers from the people behind.
"This woman is interesting. She actually asked why someone wants a divorce!"
"Yeah, why ask these questions? Is she a reporter?"
"Even if she is a reporter, she can't just casually interview people!"
Embarrassed, Ivy smiled. "Sorry, please forget what I just said."
"Excuse me, I'm just curious, I just want to know why there are no people at the window for getting married certificates, but there is a long line at the window for divorce certificates."
Someone replied, "Do we even need to ask? Society is so open now. If you want to live together, just grab a bag and you can live together without the need for a certificate. It's troublesome to get one when you break up!"
"You're right. After my divorce, I will never get married again. I'll just move in with whoever I like, and if things don't work out, we can just break up. Why bother getting a marriage certificate? It's unnecessary!"
Is it really like this?
Isn't it too casual to live together without a certificate? Ivy shook her head in disagreement.
Alexander, afraid that Ivy might be influenced by such negative thoughts, quickly held her hand and led her to get married certificates.
Suddenly, a young woman spoke up, "Getting a marriage certificate is not unnecessary, but it provides assurance for both parties. I disagree with not getting a certificate and just living together."
