Chapter 120

HANNAH

"I wouldn't be able to rest even if I tried," I replied. "I came to see the face of the man who tried to kill me."

The man's head snapped up. His eyes were a little unfocused. Then when he squinted and finally got me into his sights. I saw pure, naked fear jump into his eyes. He hissed and tried to stumble back.

Cade grabbed him by the throat before he could get anywhere. He raised a fist and slammed it into the man's gut.

"For fuck's sake!" Cade yelled, his voice trembling with anger and exasperation. "Stop wasting my time and tell me who the hell sent you!"

The man lay gasping weakly on the floor. Slowly he straightened, gave his head a little shake, and chuckled, baring his bloodstained teeth at Cade.

"Tired of torturing me already?" he wheezed. "Well, I don't care. Hit me all you want but I'm not saying a word."

Chase swore under his breath. Cade's jaw clenched. He was going to kill this man if he continued torturing him.

"Okay asshole. You asked for it," he growled, sliding his knuckle rings back in place.

Cade hit him again and again until I lost count. The man cried out in pain but not a word would he say.

But I noticed something. Every time I moved to get a closer look at Cade beating the shit out of him, the man would turn his body the other way. He kept avoiding my gaze though he kept glaring at my mates at whatever chance he got with hate filled bloodshot eyes.

Cade growling in frustration, took a short length of chain Chase held out to him. He wrapped it around his fingers, and raised it. The man flinched, expecting the blow. I laid a hand on Cade's arm to stop him.

"Stop," I said.

Every eye in the room turned on me, every eye except the mans. Slowly and very deliberately, I moved closer. Then I squatted. He didn't turn, didn't move.

Blood from a jagged gash on his head kept dripping onto the floor. I fisted my fingers in his hair, yanked it back, forcing him to look me in the eye. I felt him start to shake and cringe back.

"Do you remember what I did to your crew?" I asked softly, almost conversationally. The man's eyes widened. He nodded jerkily. "Good. If you don't start talking right now, I swear I'm not going to kill you as easily as I killed them. Your death will be slow and very, very painful. Do you understand?"

He nodded again and swallowed.

"I'm from Greenstone Pack," he said after a few seconds.

"Greenstone," I repeated slowly and frowned. I had never heard that name before. "Where is that?"

"It's not in this territory," he explained.

Cade exchanged a worried look with his brothers. "If Greenstone has heard about you, then we're in a lot more trouble than we thought. What other packs know about Hannah?"

Our captive spat out a thick clot of blood. His dark bloodshot eyes were fixed on Cade. "Not just packs. The whole world has heard about her. How could they not when a white wolf has not been seen in close to a hundred years? Even the Lycans are talking about her. You know that is not a good sign."

I felt dread, like an icy finger, clutch my heart.

Cade tapped of the length of chain against his palm.

"There must be thousands of people in Greenstone," he bit off. "Be fucking specific. Who exactly are you working for?"

"My Alpha. He wants to marry her."

My mates and I caught our breath in a collective gasp.

Cade stomped around the room.

"Your Alpha wants to kidnap and force her to marry him? This is madness!" he cried.

"No," said the man. "Madness is when a war breaks out and the white wolf is not an ally of my pack. My Alpha had to do what needed to be done."

"Your Alpha is a fool," Cade snapped. "Hannah is mated to us. She's not going to be taken anywhere."

The man's head snapped up. An ugly look leaped into his eyes. "Do you really think you'll be able to protect her from everything and everyone? My Alpha is kind enough to want her to be his wife, but the others are coming for her blood." I stood up so fast my knees popped. "When they find her, they won't leave a drop of blood in her body."

"What the hell does her blood have to do with anything?" Jace said.

"A lot," replied the man with a weak chuckle, which ended in a rasping cough. "The blood of the white wolf is the one thing anyone in the world would kill to have."
