Chapter 242

WILLA

I was exhausted. More mentally than physically and the hunger made it worse.

Breakfast this morning had consisted of me absentmindedly putting a few crumbs of food into my mouth, staring out the window, thinking of what a sad turn my life had taken lately then suddenly coming to myself and realizing I was almost late for my classes.

My first lecture was over. It was time for a break before the next one started.

I heaved a sigh, slung my backpack a little higher up my shoulder. I was fishing some change out of my back pocket when I was suddenly pushed a few steps backward.

A second later I realized what had happened. I had bumped into someone.

Not just anyone. It was Naomi.

The books she had been holding had been knocked out of her hand onto the floor. Lisa had stooped to pick up the books but Naomi didn't notice.

She was glaring at me with an expression of hate so much worse than last night's.

"I'm sorry-" I began, thinking that of all the people in Worchmount I could have bumped into why did it have to be Naomi and her crew?

"You!" Naomi hissed.

She looked like she would have been screaming if we were in a more private place. And that was only the beginning to.

Her cheeks were going redder than the blush she had applied them. At her sides, her fingers kept clenching and unclenching.

I cleared my throat and tried again. "I'm sorry. I didn't see you there. It was an accident-"

"You!" she said again. "You don't quit, do you?"

"I don't know what you're talking about."

She went on like she hadn't heard me. "You're always there. Everywhere I fucking turn, you're there. It's like you were sent here to torment me."

"I didn't mean for that to happen!" I cried, not caring who heard me now.

I didn't know why but for some reason Naomi was acting like a crazy person. You would think I had done something far worse than just accidentally bumping into her.

A few passing students looked briefly in our direction and moved on.

Lisa started to hand the books over to Naomi, thought better of it and gave some to Carmen instead to hold. Then it was finally three against one.

"Shut your hole, bitch," Noami said softly. "

"I don't know what you're talking about-"

"Shut your hole," Naomi said again still in that soft tone.

Anyone passing now would think we were just having a harmless conversation. Except for her eyes, of course.

They glared at me and hated me.

"I know what your plan is," she went on. "You're into Lucian, aren't you? You want to take him away from me. You thought- oh here's the Lycan prince. I'll finally become somebody here if I manage to get him to look my way."

I didn't know what to say to that so I said nothing. I had thought she had accepted the explanation of her boyfriend's scent being all over me because he had been at the wolfing ritual. What could possibly have changed since then?

"You knew about yesterday's wolfing ritual-" I found myself saying.

"There's more to it than that," Naomi interrupted. "I know it. What did you do? Got him alone? Stripped in front of him to get him to notice you? Was that it?"

"Probably what she did," Carmen said with a sneer. Her dark eyes crawled over me. "She looks like the slutty type."

"Definitely," Lisa said.

Naomi took half a step forward. "I swear to the goddess, if I ever see you anywhere near Lucian again-"

She broke off as a cold hand fell on my shoulder and squeezed a little.

From beside me Theron's slightly surprised voice said, "Why on earth would she be after Lucian or any other guy for that matter when we're dating?"

His fingers on my shoulder squeezed some more, inviting me to look at him. I did. He had the perfect expression of puzzlement on his face. I on the other hand did my best to conceal my shock.

Theron smiled at me a little and said, "You aren't into any other guys, are you?"

"Of course not. Babe," I tacked at the last moment.

Theron's smile widened a fraction.

He turned to the girls whose mouths were all but hanging open. "You see, ladies you must be mistaken, don't you think?"

Naomi was the first to recover.

As she stammered out, "Yes. Yes of course, Prince Theron. I'm sorry. You must be right." she elbowed the other girls in their sides.

They snapped out of it, muttered apologies like Noami's and scurried away like frightened little rats. I watched them until they were out of sight.

"Prince?" I said to Theron, eyebrows raised. "You're a prince?"
