Chapter 045

CADE

"Believe me when I say I have no idea of what you're talking about, pup. I did not threaten Hannah-" Those cold, assessing blue eyes fell on Hannah's mother who whimpered and took an involuntarily step back. "-or her mother for that matter. I thought this matter of mates settled. Well, after seeing your display here today, I'm very certain you all are delusional, maybe even slightly mentally deficient. Yes. Your delusions helped you cook up this false story."

"It's not a lie," Hannah's mother said defiantly, speaking up for the first time.

Alpha Dawson ignored her. "Hannah Baker chose my son." He laid a hand on Asher's shoulder. He looked like the cat that had got the cream. "Maybe your wounded feelings won't let you accept that fact. If you have any sense left to share between you three, you will let this matter go now and you will never speak of it again." He waved a hand dismissively like he was shooing dogs. "Now get back home and let Hannah bond with her rightful mate."

"Alright," I said so readily that everyone stared at me in surprise. "Alright then. Since you deny everything, before we leave, bring Hannah out here. Let's see that she's enjoying his company and let's hear from her own lips that she wasn't threatened."

I didn't miss the look of pure panic that leaped into Asher's eyes at that. He looked to his father for support. His father's answering look was a warning.

"What's the matter?" Jace said mockingly. "Is there a problem?"

"Yeah," I said. "Is there? It's all pretty simple. Bring Hannah out to us. Let's see her for a moment and that's it."

"No," was Alpha Dawson's reply. "I'll be damned if I let you three come into my house to give me orders. If you had wanted Hannah here, you should have asked nicely." He scoffed. "It's obvious that father of yours didn't teach you respect."

"Leave our father out of this," Chase said. “You wouldn’t want me to let go of Cade here.”

"And you, leave my house!”

"Not without-"

"You were rude so I won't grant your request."

I laughed dryly. "What do you think we are? Five? I know that trick all to well. You're bluffing, old man. You don't have something and you're looking for an excuse to wriggle out."

"Don't you-"

"Hannah is not in your pack," I said. “You both know she’s not here so stop lying like fucking three year olds.”

Alpha Dawson frowned. "And why do you sound so sure? How do you know that?"

"Easy. She's in our pack."

"She's there fighting for her life because someone poisoned her," Jace added through gritted teeth.

The Alpha and his son exchanged a quick glance. It looked like this was news to them. The Alpha as always, quickly recovered while Asher kept looking like a half wit struck by lightning.

"You are violating the terms of our agreement," Asher's father said in a low tune. "You agreed to stay completely away from her just few days ago. Now listen. If you have her, bring her back here this instant or there will be hell to pay."

"There already is," I pointed out.

He drew himself up to his full height, eyes flashing, full beard bristling. I could have laughed in his face at his pathetic attempts at intimidation. It was just that there was no humour in the situation whenever I thought of Hannah looking so pale and lifeless.

"Look here!" Alpha Dawson boomed. "I have tolerated enough of your nonsense. You will all return home and bring her to me. The terms of our agreement were simple and you boys have violated it. In case you have forgotten, the mating ceremony is-"

"Oh go to hell!" I said. "You are the one who didn't stick to the agreement. My brothers and I didn't come here to negotiate with you. We only came to let you know that we know what you did. Also, Hannah will never set foot in your pack again so bury that thought. If any of you come after her, I will execute whoever it is without a moment's hesitation. We have been too calm about this.”

"You cannot threaten me in-"

"I can and I just have. You brought yourself down to the level of a child by interfering in this matter and playing victim. But you will be mistaken if you think this is just a threat. It's a fucking promise. You should know that Icestone werewolves are the fastest and strongest hunters ever. Trust me, none of your pack members would want to be our prey, especially your son and only heir.”

"We'll rip your head off if you set foot in our pack," Jace said, grinning evilly at Asher.

I gave my brothers a signal. It was time for us to go. Our job here was done. Chase held Hannah's mother. As one, we all headed out the door.

"Stop," Alpha Dawson barked. "Come back here! We are not finished!”

We walked on, completely ignoring him.
