Chapter 341
WILLA
I felt their hostile stares like nails boring into my skin. The girls going into their rooms suddenly decided not to the moment they spotted me.
Behind me, I heard jeering laughter.
Again from behind me, a girl said something followed by "...Alpha's daughter."
As I passed a trio of girls who I remembered were on friendly terms with Naomi, I heard them whispering about the blog post.
I caught the word slut before I moved out of earshot. The girls giggled, then quickly stifled it.
But they wanted me to hear. I was sure of it.
I tried hard to tune them all out. I couldn't.
Just as my fingers closed gratefully around the handle of my door, I saw Marcus come out of the room opposite mine.
"Willa," he said, his face lightning up. He came over to me and abruptly stopped, frowning. "Hey. You don't look so good. You okay?"
"Honestly, no," I confessed, sinking my voice into a whisper. I jerked my head in the direction of the other girls. "It's the gossip mill. I hate to admit it, but they are getting to me. I can't even get a moment's peace in the place where I live! It's driving me nuts."
"Don't let it," Marcus said, shooting an annoyed glance in their direction. "Just ignore them. They're gossiping because they're jealous. Lucian's crazy about you and everyone knows it. They're just bitter they're not the ones he's with."
I gave Marcus a small, grateful smile.
"Thanks, Marcus," I said.
He nodded. "Anytime. Don't worry. Lucian will handle these rumours. You just focus on you."
He gave my shoulder a friendly pat, waved and walked off. Inside I took a quick shower, changed and left for Lucian's place.
My knuckles had hardly brushed his door when it was jerked open. I was pulled inside and into Lucian's arms before I could even draw a breath.
He crushed his lips down on mine and kissed me senseless.
My hair was mussed up and I was panting when he let me go. Not a moment too soon.
Already I was feeling the first stirrings of desire. I supposed that feeling would never entirely fade even when Lucian was kissing me in an non sexual way.
He stood beaming down at me with not a hair out of place.
I felt my lips, grinned and said, "Have you beeen you hiding behind the door the whole time?"
He shrugged. "Maybe. What took you so long anyway?"
I rolled my eyes at him. "I didn't take long at all. I had classes, remember? I started preparing to come here almost as soon as I got to my dorm."
He picked up on the word. "Almost?"
"Almost," I said, deciding not to tell him about the conversation I had with Sylvia.
No point ruining the happy atmosphere between us. He took my hand, sat down and placed me in his lap.
"How was your day?" he asked.
As I went on to tell him about my day, I became increasingly aware of an air of suppressed excitement about him. Once or twice I could have sworn his thoughts wandered.
I broke off abruptly.
"Go on," he said, adjusting me in his lap. "You were saying something about the essay you are working on?"
"That was five sentences ago. Never mind," I added as he started to apologize. "I can tell something is on your mind."
A smile spread across his face. "You know me too well."
"You wanted to show me something, right?"
He stood up. "Right. I got a text from my father yesterday after I told him about us."
"Okay?" I said.
I watched him hunt about for his phone and wondered why a text from his father had gotten him so excited. He finally found his phone, brought it to me and invited me to read the text.
I had hardly read two sentences when he jerked me into his arms and waltzed me across the room.
I laughed, surprised and pleased to see this side of Lucian.
"What did the text say?" I asked him, still laughing. "You didn't even give me time to read it properly."
"In a nutshell, my father doesn't mind that my girlfriend is not Lycan."
I stopped abruptly, accidentally treading on his toe.
"What?" I exclaimed.
Lucian chuckled. "My exact reaction. I could have sworn he was going to be stubborn about it. Not that it would have changed my mind about having you in my life," he assured me quickly. He sighed. "Everything is going to be okay now. Didn't I tell you so?"
I said he had.
It made me happy to see him happy. I knew then that despite appearances, he must have been so worried about going against his father because of me.
